Very impressive updating during such tough times (poker wise anyway), that downswing would have been the death of 99% of other PCGs.

Got faith you will turn it around and finish the year strong, GL bro

Pretty savage stuff on the 80 buyin downer. You seem to be handling it pretty well though. My mental game is fkn dreadful, so even a recent 40 buy in downswing had me questioning every single aspect of my game.

You seem to be crushing it in life off of the tables. Good luck for the rest of the year!
Yeah - the truth is that I tend to struggle when poker is a part of, rather than the main focus of, my life. I'm sure it's a combination of playing bad and running bad, and I know that this year I've been outworked by all my fellow bitb cash coaches, maybe even a few of the students, so my focus is on rectifying that asap.

Cheers man, been working on that piece for a long old time so it should be good tbh

Started a new piano project recently, and let's just say I've aimed high! No idea when it'll be ready for public consumption, but it won't be quick

Yeah - I've been thinking recently about database bias - in previous eras my approach in this situation would be to make a new database so the time taken until I have a pretty longterm graph to look at would be lower. This time I've done the opposite and started a new database from the peak, might not be the best for motivation (or for marketing the CFP...) but I've a good idea of the areas I need to work on and I'm looking forward to properly getting cracking at it.

==============================

Sup troops.

Just back from a 5 day trip north and west with my girlfriend. Time for a (non-poker) update!

We left Edinburgh on Sunday after the rugby and drove up to Inverness. Monday we drove to through to Elgin to introduce said girlfriend to my Granny, then hit up Loch Ness as the sun set.

(Not my photo)

Tuesday we stopped by Glenurquhart Castle, then drove through Muir of Ord to Rogie Falls, made an unscheduled stop at Ardvreck Castle on the way up to Achmelvich Beach.

Glenurquhart Castle (again not mine)

Rogie Falls

Ardvreck Castle

Achmelvich Beach

We decided to come back to Achmelvich Bay the next day for a "wild swim". We went over the headland to the north to a secret bonus beach a friend had told me about, stripped down to our keks and ran in (no photos obv)

We maybe lasted around 40s or so actually in the water - I've been sticking fairly well to a cold shower a couple of times a week but this was just different level cold. Predictably though we felt absolutely great as we came out of the water... so I followed through with the plan I'd been keeping secret for a while and got down on one knee to ask my girl to marry me. She said 'Si'

Obviously it's a kinda difficult moment to describe, but it really felt like a weight off my shoulders/relief to do it and have it go well. I couldn't ask for more if the relationship was half as good as it is, I obviously knew I could've waited if I'd wanted to, but I realised quite a while ago that she's about everything I want from my life, and as bad as poker has gone, the last 3-4 months with her here, though obviously not perfect, have been some of the best of my life. So yeah - I'd snuck out the night before to speak to her dad (who btw doesn't speak a word of English ) and ask his permission, I ordered a ring a few weeks back, it's due to arrive this week coming. Although I realise this is predominantly a male forum so y'all probably DGAF about the ring anyway

Anyway, later that day we climbed Stac Pollaidh (pronounced Stack Polly). It's a very unusual looking mountain, kinda famous for that reason, and the only high point for quite a ways around it, so pretty great views as you walk around. Couple more photos..

After celebrating the engagement with some unreal fish and chips in Ullapool (famous for best fish and chips in the world), we drove down to Torridon in the dark. Up the next day, stopped and Loch Carron for coffee and drove over the bridge to Skye. Had a brainwave and booked us onto the Armadale -> Mallaig ferry, which allowed us to chill, eat the pies we bought at Loch Inver for lunch and relax by the fire in a pub for a while. Stopped in at Glenfinnan to see the viaduct (famous for being the Harry Potter hogwarts express viaduct...) biggest let down of the trip by far To get a good view you gotta hike to get above it, probably helps to see a train go over it aswel lol.

Anyway, we stayed in Fort William last night, toyed with the idea of climbing Ben Nevis today but thankfully scaled back those plans in favour of the Lost Valley in Glencoe.

Heading up between these two rock faces..

(might be noticing a theme developing in these selfie formats )

The highest waterfall you can make out in this one is roughly where the valley is, just behind that waterfall it starts - the history is that some MacDonalds who survived/escaped the Glencoe Massacre (cliffs: the red wedding but real) hid up there.

Pretty crazy how much more mountain there was above us given how tough the hike was.

Anyway, took us around 5 hours all told, after that we went to the Clachaig Inn for dinner before the long drive home. Quite a trip!

Michelle leaves in 8 days, unfortunately I've got jury duty next week so my plans are kinda up in the air depending how arduous that turns out to be. Either way I'll be down to London to put her on her flight on the 26th and crashing with Juul and Stef that night.

Speaking of Juul and to give this post a hint of poker content, while I was away the boys recorded a podcast with him - I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but it's had great feedback so far, check it out here:

That's about it for now, GL out there gang!

Congrats on the proposal man, and sorry about the downer. I felt similar emotions when I proposed - mainly a big feeling of relief.

I’ve got a strange obsession with the Highlands, always have since I was a kid,
and loved your pics. I haven’t been in years but last time I was there I hit a lot of the same spots you went, Ft William, Ullapool, Loch Ness. Such a magical place.

Congrats on the proposal and very sweet Einaudi cover, he's an end boss.

Also props on sharing negative results on a public platform, it's easy to only show the good times but posting the bad times are a ever important reminder of how brutal poker can be. Also if you can drop 80 buy ins and still have some of the best moments of your life within that period, she's very likely the one

Cheers dude - tbh I was super aware of the extent to which we were just scratching the surface. For example Torridon we drove into in the dark, then we were outta there by 11am the first morning. There's probably enough hikes/climbs there to keep a keen mountaineer busy for most of a lifetime, so much still to explore

Well, this is a bit of a cluster**** tbh. I've been researching visa's, and since my income from property stuff isn't that high and poker income obv isn't provable (or maybe even positive lol ) I need to show 62.5k in a savings account in my name only for a period of 6 months BEFORE we apply for a fiance/spouse visa WHICH we can't do from within the country AND takes 3 months to process. No amount of property is sufficient, has to be sitting in a savings account (even a stocks/shares ISA isn't ideal for this since it can't dip below that figure). So, I'm basically gonna have to move things around - probably this is going to end up being the kick in the pants I need to finally convince my bro to sell our old student flat in Glasgow - the management company there ****s us at every turn, takes a month's rent as a tenant finders fee plus 10% or some ****, we're probably making very low yield there. So my plan is to liquidate that investment somehow, hold it for as long as needs be till we get the visa sorted, then use the capital to get an airbnb place here in Edinburgh.

I realise you were asking about the wedding, but yeah there's some sizable hoops need jumped through first

We will almost certainly get married here, probably while she's back here on a tourist visa from next April.

Haha, yeah for sure. TBH although I'm obv sad she's leaving very soon, I'm super hyped to get back into the full flow of the poker grind and hopefully turn things around. Wedding and **** to pay for good motivation

So, time for a poker update.

Things have obviously been going terribly at the tables for some time, with the proposal and stuff I've only really been on the grind this last week. My motivation to grind and get back to making some cash has been very strong/pure since agreeing to start a little family unit, so I'm trying to leave no stone unturned - I've changed up my game/site selection, unlearned a bunch of aged strategies I'd been too lazy to upgrade for a long time and got back to basics - taking my time, low table count, thinking about my spots, marking spots, studying spots etc etc. Variance is still gonna be what it is, but I feel like if I can keep doing these things consistently then I should get back to making some progress.

Month

Weak **** I know, but it is just at the stage where I need to regain some confidence in what I'm doing and rebuild a bit, so it is what it is.

Goals for November:

[ ] stay healthy - workout most days, avoid screen time when not grinding, sleep/eat well
[ ] 40k hands - mostly 6 tabling atm, 400-500h/hour down from 900 or so before, so this is actually more hours than normal. trying to play 2x 2h sessions most days
[ ] 1h+ study session at least every other day
[ ] 5h improving the site (articles, content, automation etc)
[ ] implement and sort visa plan
[ ] upgrade insulation in flat (****ing cold dark days )

That's about it I guess, here's to nerding it up in November!

GL out there

Lol @ the savage, not much of a interesting story. Used to live one block away for like 8-9 months and was going there very regularly. Hosted like a big party with my roomie at the time that had like 80-100 people at one point that she went to iirc. But thats about it.

Hope you turn the poker around, sort off hurts watching someone of your skill playing this low.

Yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oo

What's up troops. Month done, time for an update.

Goals for November:

[X] stay healthy - workout most days, avoid screen time when not grinding, sleep/eat well
- big tick on this one, probably did at least my morning workout on like 90% of days. Also played a heap of football, plus went to my first bouldering comp yesterday which was fun, though idk if it really needs the extra pressure Decent for a change anyway, even if the air was literally thick with chalk like it was misty
[ ] 40k hands - mostly 6 tabling atm, 400-500h/hour down from 900 or so before, so this is actually more hours than normal. trying to play 2x 2h sessions most days
- fail, 33.3k hands, played a lot of hours though - not sure how many as h2n is counting an extra hour on every session due to import times **** up i can't be bothered fixing
[X] 1h+ study session at least every other day
- smashed this.
[ ] 5h improving the site (articles, content, automation etc)
- fail, did literally nothing towards this besides upload coaching vids
[X] implement and sort visa plan
- this is done, will fill in details another time.
[ ] upgrade insulation in flat
- fail, spending my whole life under my little blanket like an old man

=============================

Looks like I failed a lot of goals, but poker-wise things went better than I really could've dreamed this month. Here's the update I posted in our CFP group chat last night..

Quote:
hate to do it on payday weekend, but considering booking the month

from peak downswing, the biggest downer I've ever had in BI

Unfortunately I decided to be a disciplined lad, so after lunch with my fam and stopping in for a half pint with a friend, I came home and grinded tonight, lost a little back. But yeah, pretty crazy how swingy my results have been this year, will throw in my by stakes since my fiance left too - was actually playing some 100nl for a while to regain some confidence/spin up a roll on my 2nd site

So yea - running pure as the driven snow, playing mostly 200nl with some 400 and 500, hoping to add in some 600 over December if things keep going well, wouldn't even rule out some 1k if the right spot comes up Hyped for the December grind and to try and keep this momentum up.

GL all!
