Played good in general. Made 2 horrible plays, couple marginally bad plays, and a few great plays.

I just think with your skill from live NL,O8.etc at 10PLO you should not have as many losing days and your graph should be consistence almost varianceless.

IMO micro stakes PLO are even more juicy /beatable then what NL games were back in 08/09

When you have every table with at least3 (which is nearly every 6max table) 70+ VPIP's there should not be much variance. I feel playing loose aggressive against these already lose opponents who will be calling with anything is not optimal. The tighter you play the better, (same as how everyone has been taught to tighten up in a loose NL game) also b/c they wont adjust to your tightness or even take notice of it. I play at about 18/14/4 6 max and am absolutely crushing. DJ Senseie plays at 23/17 at 2/4. So 18/14 at 5plo-50plo is not nitty at all imo.

Try playing 18/14 or even 16/11 and see how your win rate will skyrocket!!

I dont think the games are as good as your claiming here. On the tables I play, most games vpips average in the 35-45% range. If 3 players have vpip's of 70 / 80 / 85, it means the other 3 players must have vpips around 10.. this just doesn't happen...

I think whats great about PLO is that different styles can still win, and no one knows what the "optimal" strategy is.. It's much less refined than NLH in that regard. From what I've read, vpips in the 20-30 range are fine, and pfr in the 12-20 range is fine.

Personally, I'd like to develop a game that makes it very difficult to play against me. I want the regs to hate sitting on my right. What this translates to for me; multi-street bluffs/value betting light, stealing with impunity, and a wide 3betting range. So far this month I've been playing 26/19/6, and I feel I've made improvements on my game. As I move up, I'll have to tighten up a bit from UTG and in the SB, so my vpip will probably move down closer to 23 or 24. I'll also have to open a bit less in the CO when people start 3betting lighter (I'm assuming this will happen more as I move up). I anticipate playing 24-26/17-19/5-6 at PLO25 and 50, and playing 22-24/16-18/6-7 at PLO100/200.

As for beating PLO variance-less... I hope that was a level.

I'm in Vancouver right now. $44 for RT from Whistler. I'm staying at a hostel for $28/night. Aka trip = ~$130. Shooting to grind 25 hours of PLO over the next 3 nights. $~25/hr expectation seems reasonable for $1/2. Target = +$625. Variance could easily make it -$2000 to +$4000

Edit: Just found $35 RT from whistler-->vancouver on a better bus. Groupon is the bomb. Picked up 3.

Yeh!!

So, +$263 over 8.5 hours last night. They had a juicy $5/10 going, but I felt it was out of my bankroll. (uncapped, average stack in the $6k range). Would def have bought in with a stake...

I played the $1/2 with $5 bring in. It's also uncapped, and it plays big. I sat down with $500, watched the most ridiculous hand ever and quickly topped off for $1000.

I played one big one which I will not forget.. Villain is in his 60s/70s, being nitty, on ipad, nut peddling. Hero over-limps in HJ QJT7, villain limps in CO, 5 ways to flop.. T 7d 2, checks to hero who bets $25, villain calls, rest folds. Turn($75): Kd, hero bets $50, villains calls, River($175): Ar Hero bets $65, villain raises to $325, hero calls (LOL). Villain shows AQTx. I was going for thin value vs 2pair, and this old man bluff raised me!!! I have never seen a 70+ nut peddler bluff raise the river in live pokers. I lol'd. The table labeled me as clueless for not 3betting the river with the nuts. !

Overall the game was hot and cold. 2 near clueless players that gave $1k to the table, and a few bad reg fish. Only 2 players seemed remotely competent , and I certainly was not one of them.

I played another hand vs a bad reg that was questionable..

Villain is 50s, rec player, loose passive, playing ~60% of hands, peels flops light.

villain open-limps in MP, 2 limpers behind, hero completes in sb with 6c65c5, BB checks.

Flop ($25);

643ddc

Hero donks $20, lappy asian calls, villain calls.

Turn ($85); Qc

Hero bets $55, villains calls.

River ($195) super blank

Hero bets, villain bets $150, hero... calls.

I felt so gross here. I can't imagine this passive player betting the second nuts here, and he didn't raise the flop or turn.. 2 Obv busted draws, and I have 2 5's in my hand as nut blockers. Turned out he had 577xr for the flopped/turned/rivered nuts.. sigh.

I made a few double barrel bluffs IP.. Once I had KKxx on a AQJ where I raised pre with a super nitty image. I got JJ to fold face-up . But, in general I played very ABC. Stealing isn't very effective...

Wal-mart soon for some purchases for whistler house. Need 5-6 spices for cooking, pull-up bar, push-up stands, resistance bands. House is chopping.

Need to get laid. One of the worst parts about perpetual travel outside of asia...

Re: Crushing PLO (PLO5-->PLO200)

Super interesting session today. I met a English girl that has been traveling the world playing poker for the last 3 years. Awesome? Indeed. Never anticipated meeting a girl at the poker table. She's single (from what I can tell) and in Canada for the next couple months. Would like to post more but got the impression that she might actually be reading this thread...

On the session: Played 8.5 hours, won $630.. Was up pretty big ($1200+) at one point and lost a couple large pots in ridiculous spots. Def my favorite hand of the night;

Hero raises to $15 with AcKQ7c, 1 caller, short-stack nit goes allin for $60, whale calls in BB, hero repots to ~$245, whale calls.

Flop($200 + ~$350): Jd 7c 3s

whale checks, hero bets $275, whale calls.

Turn ($200 + $900): 8d

whale checks, hero checks.

River ($200 + 900): As

whale checks, hero tank checks..

Villain shows: AQ85ss for backdoor 2 pair.

Lol.. couldn't believe she floated me on the flop with air and then hit perfect runner runner. So ridiculous..

Played ABC, and solid. One thinnish value bet on the flop vs the whale (in the above hand), a thinnish value bet on the turn vs a fish with TPTK+2 overs. Made 3 blocker bluffs, all successful. I also made a under-bet river bluff vs a fish with air ($250 into ~$700 ) Defo getting an idea for when I have FE based on villains/board texture/feel.

Thus far on the trip; +$893 over 17 hours.

Edit:
Right, so im going to post more due to being on a massive sugar high/unable to sleep.

Good news; made a contact in Vancouver to play a home game in Whistler. Plays a bit smaller than the $1/2/5 in Vancouver, but, a "soft" game, apparently. Been told to introduce myself at a certain location and then I'll be invited into the game? Would be awesome if I could play live pokers in Whistler and avoid the commute/****ty hostel arrangement in Vancouver. Bad news is I've sunk ~130 in non-refundable bus fares.. meh.

Need to play 8 hours tomorrow to hit volume target for the weekend. Going to shoot for 3pm-11pm.

Re: Crushing PLO (PLO5-->PLO200)

Bleh. Annoying session today. Got 60%+ of my 200BB stack in pre with aces 3 times, only won 1. My favorite was I got it in 3ways with AAJTss against AJT8ds and AQ75ss, lost obv.

Then, lost a huge pot vs a whale which I think I played well..

Hero limps with JdJc5d3c UTG+1, lag raises to $20, 4 callers, hero calls.

Flop ($120)

Ks Jc 7d

check, hero bets $120, folds, whale calls in SB..

Turn ($360)

3d

check, hero bets $350, villan calls

River ($1060)

villain checks in the dark

Td

Hero bets $425, villain calls, shows TQKd4d

Thoughts? Pretty sure she could call with a straight on this river, and perhaps Th or 9h diamonds... It felt unlikely she had the NFD when she checked. I think perhaps $350 is better sizing with this whale to get a call from straights..

Also lost a big pot with bad sizing on a triple barrel bluff with air. Runout was A Q 9ss, 4x Ax

T9ss, sized the river $115 into $200. Could have easily bet $65 to get the whale to fold any non-Ax hand.

That hand ended up being the difference between winning and losing in Vancouver

Total: 25 hours, -$43 profit

Indeed. I did it today, worked.

It's NLH and low stakes; $.50/1.00. no rake.

I'm considering skipping the next 15 BIs at PLO25 and jumping into PLO50. All my poker friends are advocating moving up and it seems like the marginal benefit of $ > marginal benefit of climbing up all the levels on the ladder. Will require some more thought-- will probably move up this week.

Re: Crushing PLO (PLO5-->PLO200)

Today;

The last couple days I've been playing a bit more aggro in general.. 28.0/19.8/5.1.

I have plans to help climb the learning curve at a faster pace over the next couple weeks. There are a couple areas of my game where I'm lost. The biggest being defending OOP. If a player is stealing 50% from the btn, what should I be defending, what should I 3b? As of right now, I don't know. I basically go with my gut. Second, BvB play. I steal 53% now. How do I react to 3bets?

Hoping ~20k hands at HU will help me plug these leaks and get my ready to rape PLO50

Taking a step back to look at the big picture.. PLO50 in 2 weeks gives me 5 months to beat 3 more levels. at 300hands/hr at say 10bb/100 post-rb I can squeeze out ~150 BIs in 500 hours or 25hrs/week. Do-able!

Life is improving here in Whistler. Getting closer with roomies/friends, ski season is going to start in about a week. Once I find some weed/ass life shall gel in a state of awesomeness.

Not doing so well thus far. Still getting a sense for things.. Sort of sucks that no cash is available as the SnG structure changes the dynamic enough to make it only somewhat useful to me. <10BB it becomes more about ICM than playing poker..

Meh, will continue messing around in these for the rest of the month.

Thx!

I like to play 4-5 tables. Even doing this I'll occasionally time-out..

I'm hoping to increase volume once I feel closer to reaching a learning "plateau". As of right now, still way too much to learn to consider playing more than 5 tables...

I had some interesting hands yesterday.

Just played a long session. Started making mistakes in the last 20 minutes, lost 1 BI being retarded. Quitting is a skill...

Also, All-in EV is completely messed. I got it in twice as a favorite on the turn and my yellow line did a massive dive? Makes no sense.

Re: Crushing PLO (PLO5-->PLO200)

Played a couple PLO50 sessions, got crushed. Argh!

Was pretty upset with the way I played a few hands..

Hand 1:

All villains have vpips in 60-80 range. Main villain is 61/8, peels the flop wide.

PokerStars - $0.50 PL Hi (6 max) - Omaha - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

Hero (CO): $50.00
BTN: $37.96
SB: $45.12
BB: $102.38
UTG: $16.45

SB posts SB $0.25, BB posts BB $0.50

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero has 9 A Q T

UTG raises to $1.00, Hero raises to $3.75, BTN calls $3.75, SB calls $3.50, fold, UTG calls $2.75

Flop: ($15.50, 4 players) 3 T 8
SB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $8.50, fold, SB calls $8.50, fold

Turn: ($32.50, 2 players) A
SB checks, Hero bets $22.00, SB calls $22.00

River: ($76.50, 2 players) 6
SB bets $10.87 and is all-in, Hero calls $10.87

Spoiler:

I liked the flop sizing, I think its a b/c here getting 2:1 or better if any villain shoves.

pre/flop is nice.

Turn sizing is stupid. I thought I may be able to get more value from his weaker holdings that he called pre with (38/A3/A8,T+gutter,8+gutter) but on a 2tone board he can have some pair+FDs in that range, OESD+pairs, and bare OESD. I think that in this spot he's either going to "go with it" (call or fold) regardless of if I bet $22 or $33 so I should always bet $33.

River is meh. I don't think calling or folding is horrible.

Hand 2:

Villain is 37/21, 45 agg freq over 50 hands, seems like a reg.

I am 25/19 over 50 hands.

SB checks, Hero bets $18.50, SB calls $18.50

River: ($63.50, 2 players) 2
SB bets $45.50, fold

Spoiler:

I liked the way this hand was played. I liked my sizing on both streets. I think often he folds to the raise on the flop. Sometimes he will re-jam with T9 or JJQT. Sometimes he will flat.

When he calls his range is pretty face-up IMO. I think J8QT, 3pairs, and sets (mostly sets). He will fold 3pair or a set by the river often.. 3pair or a set only boats up ~36-39%.

Given his river shove, he put me on exactly T9 (duh) and pretty sure he backdoored hears. Meh.

Re: Crushing PLO (PLO5-->PLO200)

Haven't got any decent volume the last couple days. Whistler is the nuts. The runs are wicked awesome, very challenging. I have sunk to my knees in fresh powder a couple times in the middle of a run.

I broke my ski pole today crushing the slopes and can't get it replaced until Thursday.. so I will be able to get some volume in the next couple days.

Firing up a FTP session right now..

TY good sir.

Ton of analysis on the way.. getting owned at PLO50-- need to make sure I'm not spewing.

Two sessions so far today;

Sessions were 7/10. Played in a decent state of mind, but didn't go through a proper thought process on a couple hands. Wasn't constantly ranging opponents through a hand. Made some bad bet sizing and a couple bad bluffcatches.

Hand1:

Full Tilt - $0.50 PL Hi (6 max) - Omaha - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

MP: $50.00
CO: $24.90
BTN: $51.10
SB: $67.95
BB: $119.50
Hero (UTG): $61.90

SB posts SB $0.25, BB posts BB $0.50

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero has Q 4 K K

Hero raises to $1.50, fold, CO calls $1.50, fold, fold, fold

Flop: ($3.75, 2 players) J Q 8
Hero bets $2.50, CO calls $2.50

Turn: ($8.75, 2 players) T
Hero checks, CO bets $6.50, Hero calls $6.50

River: ($21.75, 2 players) A
Hero checks, CO checks

Spoiler:

Villain is 66/20 fairly aggro postflop. I like flop/turn play, but the river is absolutely atrocious.

When the action gets to the river, Villain has so many Q-high straights in his range that are never folding this river once both draws brick, I don't think hes going to bluff off busted clubs because most busted clubs, and he's not turning 2p or a set into a bluff. Burned 30bbs here.

Hand 2:

Bad bet sizing:

Full Tilt - $0.50 PL Hi (6 max) - Omaha - 6 players

Should bet $8-9 on the flop, shove turn.

Spoiler:

Seems like a clear c/c on the turn IMO. AP, I should B/C.

I think bet/folding here is pretty bad, probably worst played hands in the session.

Almost checked flop, through b/f had merit against a looser passive player though. On the turn, trying to fold out 2 pairs. Was going to triple barrel most non-diamond rivers.

Some interesting hands, I would post way less hands, people don't have a huge attention span so I feel you would get more responses with your more interesting hands.

Hand 1

No idea what are you doing on turn unless you are bluffing a huge % of rivers and you have no idea which rivers you actually like, you are digustingly behind his flop calling range on that turn card. I don't like river either, hes going to have a lot of SD value that will never ever bet river and we miss so much value, I think he has way more SD value than actual bluffs after that river.

Hand 2

Flop bet is too small as you said, betting small is not really inducing and just lets your opponents draw cheaply plus most opponents fold turn but their flop calling range is pretty inelastic.

Hand 3

Definitely dislike how this hand was played, leading is okay if the opponent bad is bad but typically it doesn't accomplish too much. As played,really dislike turn with that much equity and not too much better will fold.

Hand 4

Really wp given everything said, I like 3 betting pre, its a bit too strong to flat I feel but nothing wrong with flatting here especially given positions.

Hand 5

I dislike flop if you are not leading turn so not sure why you dislike this so much, you really need to stop being insanely results oriented with bluffs, value bets and everything. That is by far your biggest leak. Either way, flop call is bad if you are playing the value of your NFD only, as played I would play it the same.

Hand 6

I think this is okay, I would typically bet turn for value, sometimes bluff rivers with reads, sometimes not. As played, a sigh fold, he has clubs here a ton.

Hand number 3 really stands out here to me. Obviously a lot of fold equity here but I think you kind of set yourself up poorly. Hope the tables are treating you okay.

Nice results at plo25 for the month! Keep going! Is there any difference in value between playerpools at ftp and stars or is it pretty much the same?
