PURPOSE
The purpose of this thread is to progress in poker (PLO) and also other areas of my life. I want to be kept accountable, have something to look back on, and track my progress. I think it's critical to grow each day and avoid being on auto pilot. I have been guilty of this both in poker and life. At this stage key areas of focus will be poker, finance, personal development, health and relationships.

BACKGROUND
Early 30's, in a serious relationship, renting, degree educated, working full time in a corporate job. Don't really enjoy (don't hate it either) my job but it does come with it's benefits and I am grateful as not everyone has the opportunity to work. I have to put in a lot of hours but it pays well and does come with it's freedom at times with some flexibility around hours.

POKER
Have been playing poker for 10+ years. Started with NLH and transitioned to PLO approx 4 years ago. I am a small winner long term in live PLO. Recently I have also been playing on apps (PPPoker). I will spend more time focusing on apps while the games are good. I only play micros while getting comfortable and have always been a little skeptical considering the obvious lack of regualtion. With live PLO, I play either 1/3 or 1/2/5 and have shot taken up to 5/10 when the games are very soft. Most of my poker goals with be around volume, study time, quality of my decisions. I plan to set these monthly as I can forcast working hours each month.

FINANCIAL
My portfolio is broken down into 3 categories, stocks, cash & precious metals. I made a terrible investment decision approx 4 years ago and allocated a majority of my portfolio to precious metals. If I sold my holdings today, I would have essentially come close to breaking even. Looking back, it would have been nice to have plowed this money into an index fund and rode the bull market but that's in hindsight and life is all about learning lessons. I want to decrease my holdings in metal but I just can't bring myself to doing this given the record level the stock market is at. At this stage I'm planning to hold until the next significant economic downturn in which case safe haven assets should do well.

I don't plan on having a seperate poker bankroll. So my personal net worth will fluctuate with the inevitable variance of PLO and the economic markets.

Net worth: $51,228
  • My goal in the financial category is to essentially double my net worth in 12 months. To put a nice round figure on it, I want to be worth $100k by 2021. This is aggressive but I want to set the standard very high.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
This has increasingly become a large part of my life and I think it's critical to anyone's success. I want to be much more consious of the present moment and maximise everyday without auto piloting. Daily growth will be essential to my success in all areas of life. Some goals of mine include:
  • meditating daily.
  • reading 6 personal development/growth books this year.

RELATIONSHIPS
I have some incredible relationships in my life. This includes my girlfriend, family and friends. I want to make more of an effort with this and be more present/conscious of the time I am spending with these people. I want my relationships to grow and want to attract more like minded people in my life. I need to be more proactive in this area.

HEALTH
Eating well and staying active. I am currently weight training with a good friend and will start incorporating cardio training. I aim to train a minimum of 4 days per week with the odd break week added in. Overall my diet is decent during the week but I need to start eating better over the weekends.

ANONYMOUS
I plan to keep anonymous for the time being because I want to be fairly detailed with areas of my life that I don't want everyone knowing about. Remaining anonymous allows me to do this so won't be disclosing location etc.

I have been able to start the month off with high volume as I have been off work. Aiming for +90 hours this month. Would say I have played my B game overall. Lapse of focus in some spots and putting myself in some speculative spots by opening a wider range.

Gym has been going really well. Training with a friend so we have been pushing each other in the weight room. My diet tends to also stay om track when I am training. Have meditated 3/9 days this month which is poor, looking to increase this. Also need to increase my poker work off the tables, training has been lacking.

On the investment front, silver has been very volatile. Currently pulling back after making an aggressive run.

Poker - 32 hours: +$601.
Net worth - $53,527

Thanks Viggie. GL to you too.

Have put in much more volume than expected this month already. 86 hours and counting. Study volume has nicely followed with a small increase. Trying to get something in everyday to improve my game. If there's no progress l, then it's a wasted day.

Results have been average. But I am happy with my overall play, decisions and thought process since last post. Ran bad in live games but made up for it in some of the online ones.

Will post some hands soon.

Poker - 86 hours - $2,110
Net worth - $55,370

Sometimes when waiting for a live table and it looks like it will be a long wait. This doesn't happen too often though.

Had some personal things come up that I have had to (wanted to) focus my attention on. Been a bit of a ride off with personal development/fitness over the last week. Poker training has been minimum and haven't put to many hours in at all. Feel good about the few hours that I have put in + also ran pretty hot. Much easier to play well when running good. Mental game is not really tested.

Shares are steady and so are the precious metals at the moment.

Little while since my last post. Due to a few personal things popping up, I've had to take my focus off poker and some of my longer term goals. February was slow with poker volume, only 49 hours. My financial position has been taking some very big swings due to the impact of Coronavirus. Will be looking for opportunities in the stock market so I can put some money to work!

Moving into March, I'm looking to bring my focus back, put in volume amd make decisions each day to hopefully see them compound and make a positive impact. Priorities are going to be health and personal development, improving in poker and putting in volume.

Poker - 149 hours = +$8,141

I haven't quite updated this thread with the frequency that i originally intended. There's been a lot of change in 2020 for me. Poker seems to be one of the more consistent areas of my life. Been playing about 15-20 hours a week while maintaining my job. Feel like I'm improving all the time which is great.

Investment portfolio has seen a high level of variance. I'm making adjustments to my allocations as I'm looking to have atleast 75% of my net worth in equities by December 2020. The goal of 100k net worth by end 2020 is still alive.

Poker - 309 hours = +$11,574
Net worth = $59,753

May has been a positive month. Over the last week I have been using a high performance planner to journal my days and also motivate me. I want to live a more intentional life because it's too easy to let external environments dictate your direction and let the years pass by. Each morning I have been waking up, setting a direction for my day, meditating, and sticking to my schedule. At the end of the day, I do a review. Overall feel better, more on track and present in whatever task I am doing. Definitely still need improvements like increasing productivity during my 9-5 job etc.

On another note, I went shopping today and as I walked past some high end stores which had lines of people waiting to get in, it made me feel sick that there are people spending unnecessary $$$ on these items while there is so much poverty in the world. It's pretty messed up.

Still on a heater this month, playing well and running even better. Setting a big volume goal this month - 90 hours. Let's do this!

Poker hours - 378 = +$25,569
Net worth = $82,682

Been a long while since my last update. I actually just finished my biggest loosing session of my poker life and on a 10k downswing. Feeling pretty down about. My results have been really good this year so guess I was due for a significant correction. Other than poker, my investment portfolio has been doing well, especially after the recent rally in precious metals. I have been selling small portions of silver over the last 3 months, however still have a significant portion of my portfolio allocated to it. I hit my annual financial goal of 100k net worth and really glad to have done that with 5 months before my original target. Had well above this before my downswing!!!! Anyway hopefully this downswing doesn't continue . . . . it's been a bit of a struggle on me.

Poker hours: 533 = +$32,682
Net worth = $100,020

It's time for an end of year update. Overall it's been a good year with Poker. I've put in some decent hours (over 1k hours) and think my game has really improved. Back end of the year has been mostly breakeven but happy with overall performance. I think 2021 is going to be a big year.

I have hit my financial net worth target of $100k which I am very happy with, almost double of my worth at the beginning of the year. My investments have really helped with this, as I have continued to allocate more of my portfolio to the stock market and decreased my holding in precious metals. Decreased my precious metal holdings by 50% which was a little target of mine.

Poker hours: 1007 = +$28,064
Net worth: $100,510

Overall my fitness / health is improving. I meditate daily and have been 'more' consistent with gym. Still improvements to be made in this area. I'm reading / podcasting more than I was at the beginning of the year but need to keep improving.

I am setting a new financial goal for 2021. New worth of $175,000! Let's do this.

I won't set poker goals yet for the year, it's hard to evaluate what my life/work situation will be like in the coming months. January will be volume heavy with +180 hours my target. Let's do this and hope for a better 2021.

GL everyone.
