Sup,

I work at a webshop as an online marketer, but my contract will end in November. I've been successful in poker for the last ~1.5 years but never really had the time to follow a good poker schedule and put in solid hours month in month out. Therefore, I see the ending of my contract more as an opportunity to persue what I love most: poker.

I'm a 22 year old Dutchman with a passion for poker. I live a tiny village in South-Holland. I've studied communications and right now I work parttime as an online marketer. Together with my other sidejob, these jobs are roughly covering 30 hr's of my week which leaves me enough room to play poker for the coming months. My plan is to put in as much quality hours as possible in the coming 4 months, so I can evaluate if it's worth it to make a shot at going full time, rather than looking for another job. My monthly spendings are very low and I have a saved up money: I can live off my liferoll for about a year so I won't get in any trouble if poker doesn't work for me after all.

Beautiful area where I live :

Background
What started as an innocent hobby with some friends, grew into an intense passion for me. Being obsessed with all the different strategies, terms and stories of settled pro's I quickly started to obtain as much knowledge as I could. I've been playing everything in the past couple of years; my main focus was 50nl fullring for a long time, lost interest in it so shifted to MTT's. Last year was a big succes for me MTT wise, with my first 5-figure score and month.

Poker, goals & challenges
I'm a decent MTT player, but in my current situation I'm not able to have frequent longer sessions. I've decided to test the waters at iPoker's cashgames. I will start with 20nl as my maingame but won't rule out any 50nl - 100nl tables if the field is good. Besides that I'll play some interesting MTT's every now and then across multiple sites.

I really don't know how this will go, I have hardly any experience with 6max cashgames, but with the right adjustments I think I can manage it.

I signed up on iPoker a while ago, having a deal at a RB company for 60%. Since iPoker is using SBR system for rake, it's hard for me to tell how much RB% I'll get at the end of the line, but I think it's going to end up around 30-35%. This is without the monthly rakeraces, which can add quite a lot of $$ as well. I'll workout my RB% every month so I can get a good view over time on how much RB I really get.

Balancing life
Right now I live a quite boring life imo. I have 2 jobs, next to that I cycle 10-20km everyday and for the rest of the time I play poker and sleep. On saturday I mostly go out drinking with some friends, but that's it.

I want to create a more interesting life for myself. This means doing things that I normally wouldn't do. Go for a night cycling, smoke a good sigar at a random place, play a live MTT, so basicly anything. I intend to do something out of the ordinary every 2 weeks.

Concrete goals
I'll probably make goals for every week/month, but my global goals are:
  • 50k+ hands/month
  • Do something out of the ordinary every 2 weeks
  • Aim for 5bb/100 ev wise
  • At least 375k hands at the end of the year
  • Plan an epic, possibly poker/chill vacation in September
  • Change gears back in time when cashgames don't work out (go back to MTT's)

That's it for now. Follow thread for hand analysis, tripreports, goalreports, random photo's. Pokersetup and more about me will follow soon.

Peace!

Forgot to mention that my starting roll is around €2k, I am able to reload but I hardly doubt I'll go broke since I'll be playing 20nl to start with

Had a nice stack in the €20 micro series ME on pokerstars.fr but went out pretty ugly on the money & day2 bubble.

Just crossed 20k hands, I feel like I'm in the zone, ev-wise its going all right, results aren't that great tho. While 20nl is my maingame I'll sometimes join a 100nl table if it's soft enough, so I did. Found the donks, got it in good and variance fckd me ^^ Btw I have no idea why it says that villain mucked, but H1 showed KK and H2 showed J9ss

Alright, one quick graph because I crossed my first 25k hands

Volume is ~85% 20nl and ~15% 100nl, got coolered a lot at 100nl, but pretty happy about how I'm playing. Pool definitely doesn't seem too hard. Also raked around €1k already so getting the RB at the end of the month should make my graph a little better looking haha

Why not stay at 20nl and take shots at 50nl? Now if you lose 1 buy-inn at 100, it takes a lot longer to grind it back. Are you playing regular tables or speed as well? Anyway keep up the grind!

There's basicly 2 reasons for that, one is that I mainly play speed tables; which pretty much only run on 20nl and 100nl in peak times, 50nl is dead dunno why. I mix regular tables but matter of fact is that theyre so hard to join a good table and put volume in, ipoker doens't have waiting lists and 50nl doesn't run that often off-peak on regular tables as well, thats why only 1k out of 26k hands played so far is regular.

Next to that, my roll is 2k and am able to reload (but not intend to), so losing a pot or two isn't too big of a dent in my roll.

I feel pretty confident at 100nl, there are some solid regs but I have a couple of good reads on some of the better and worse regs.

I will ofcourse closely monitor that I'm not dropping too deep at 100nl, but with the confidence I have right now and the playerpool that is playing I'm happy to play 100nl whenever it runs

                        Monthly recap: July

With all the RB being received I have a good overview of how the month went. I'll come with solid numbers later in this post, but first I'll write down my thoughts about this month pokerwise. I started playing on iPoker on July the 17th, so these numbers will be based on half a month. The rest of July until the end of the month I have played ~35k hands. I think I've put in decent volume considering that I also have 2 jobs, so until now I'm relatively happy with my work ethic.

I still didn't manage to setup HUD for fast iPoker tables. This is inconvenient for the 20nl fast tables, but I think I lost a lot of value at the 100nl tables. I've played over 7k hands on 100nl fast which ended slightly in the red. Next to that 100nl fast is giving me a lot of variance, so I decided to try to stick with 20nl-100nl on regular tables as much as possible, where I can choose who to sit with and play with HUD.

MTT-wise I didn't play a lot of MTT's, since that isn't the main focus of my game right now. I played 32 MTT's but didn't have any relevant scores besides one small final table in which I finished 6th-ish.

                        And now some numbers:

                        Hands: 35.692
                        Hours played: 60,8h
                        Hands/hr: 587
                        Rake: €1583,43
                        Rakeback: €679,64
                        RB%: 42,9%

                        Profit: €747,46
                        Profit EV adjusted: €891,58

                        Tournaments played: 32
                        Profit: $-176

                        What is August gonna bring?
My birthday was yesterday, and I enjoyed it. A day off work and a day off poker. The grind is starting today. I feel like I'm better off playing regular tables so I will be focussing more on those, but I wont rule out fast tables as well, especialy 20nl fast. Regular tables dont run enough off-peak to maintain a good amount of hands.

I will be aiming for 40k hands.

I'm also going to redecorate my room, I'll post pics when my whole room and setup is ready to go. Redecorating my room will take up a couple of days; gonna repaint it all, buying some new stuff for my desk and setup, buying some plants etc etc. Gonna be +ev in the long run tho

Thats it for today, thanks for reading!

I assume you're playing on Coral Poker? If that's the case I would switch to a softer network as a lot of nitty regs play there for RB.

Depending on my mood and focus, I'm 3-4 tabling speed when I'm playing speed. I'm gonna try to put more focus on regular tables, which I try to 6-8 table, but probably the most number of hands will still come from speed.

I'm playing on iPoker on Coral's skin. Switching from pokerroom within the network isn't going to help me since they all share the same player pool. I'm not just gonna drop the whole ipoker network just because of that. I'm aware that there are a lot of regs who are playing for the RB, but there seem to be quite a few regs who have a lot of leaks. Also, a significant part of my earnings will also be from RB, altho earnings from RB isn't what it used to be since the implementation of source based rake.

                                Hi guys,

                                Nice lil update
Been gone for about 2,5 weeks for some personal stuff, but back on the grind. I've been playing quite a lot regular tables so I'm happy about that. I should figure out how to setup HUD for fast poker tho; its hard to get in volume without those tables. I think I should set goals hour-wise instead of hand-wise, since the amount of hands I play vary greatly depending on the time I play and which format I play.

Last week I went to the casino to play some cash. The competition is pretty weak at the 2/2 tables I play at, but lost 300 due to my overshove on the flop with QQ on 28Tr against 9T who called the allin and binked another ten. Not rly concerned about it tho, I'm not influenced at all by lost money as long as I got it in good

Also randomly got an extra €88 rakeback a couple of days ago from july. Dunno how but oh well I'll take it I'll add this to my july graph, this means july was almost a €1k month cashgame wise which is awesome imo

Stay tuned for the August recap in about a week!
