- 23 years old, German, been playing poker actively for about a year – currently playing 50nlz
- taking a gap year from Uni to see if I can make poker a full-time thing

Motivations to start this thread:
- increase volume (get more comfortable playing more than 2 Zoom tables)
- intensify studying (fully focused, no distractions)
- develop good habits/routines + create accountability

POKER GOALS:
- 200z by the end of 2018
- monthly volume: minimum of 75k hands
- 1 hour of (intensive) PIO study a day
- journaling session results
- 3x session reviews per week

RL GOALS:
- 4x gym a week (TUE/THU/FRI/SUN) + decent diet (reduce refined sugar intake)
- read 2 books a month (psychology, high performance, AI, biographies)
- research “Meditation” and implement it into my daily routine

Results will be posted at the end of each month. Expect some occasional HHs and sporadic updates. Let’s get this going!

Grind has been going ok so far. Probably need to up the volume a bit to get to atleast 37.5k for the last half of the month. Studying, journaling, reading and gym have been on point. Yesterdays PIO study was very productive and will definitely help my game in the long run, just gotta keep it consistent. There haven't been very many interesting hands over the 7k hands or so that I played last 3 days, I'll leave you with these 2.

Hey guys, thanks for all the good luck wishes. Been putting in a lot of hours the last couple days. I was thinking that tracking my goals on a weekly basis might be better to help me figure out which specific areas require more attention. For this week most stuff got done and I felt like I made decent progress, despite the results at the tables not being the greatest. Gonna post a graph at the end of the month. For this week:
Gym: 3/4
Reading: 109/233 (Relentless by Tim Grover - on track to finish by the end of March)
Volume: 17.3k hands (on track for the 37.5k - last 16 days of March)
PIO: 5.5/7
Journaling: 7/7
Session reviews: 0/3 - I will get back to those next week, was really focused on database reviewing and researching certain stats that need work, so the reviews kind of got lost on the way.

Does ur ''PIO study'' include session review, checking on marked hands from the session or are u just PIOing >30BB pots in general?

Btw, whats ur SN on stars? Might run into u at the tables!

By session review I meant recording 30-45min of footage and going through it looking for stuff you might not have picked up on at the tables.

My PIO study usually revolves around studying one spot intensively, so let's say I'm studying SB vs BTN 3b pots, then I'll run it for a subset of flops and try to develop a stronger overall strategy and increase and my understanding of the game tree.

Occasionally I'm PIO'ing spots that I felt uncomfortable in, but usually just reviewing hands with a mate multiple times a week.
SN is this same as here on 2+2. Hope that clears it up

WEEK 2 SUMMARY

Reading: 233/233 (Relentless by Tim Grover – 8/10)
Volume: 13.5/16.4k hands for this week (30.8k/37.5k hands - for 2nd half of March)
PIO: 7.5/7
Journaling: 7/7 – gonna stop listing this section, it’s pretty much second nature to me and would just be a waste to list it every time
Session reviews: 0/3 – don’t really wanna bull**** around with excuses, studied PIO and videos - but footage reviewing seems like a tedious thing which I haven’t gotten myself to do yet. I definitely want to try reviewing footage consistently though and see how beneficial it is

“Relentless” by Tim Grover has been a very good read. Fantastic writing and very sharp. I’ll leave you guys with a couple quotes that resonated with me.

MARCH SUMMARY

Volume: 34.2k/37.5k hands – I recently started tracking “estimated variance” in my journal, which means I’m taking a guess as to how I ran – post session and rate it between 1-10, 1 being hot and 10 terrible. Helps me deal variance and stay sane. For the 2nd half of March it has been a 5.
The results have been ok, considering that I recently moved up and got crushed during my first 2 shots at 50nlz. I’m aware of most of my leaks and will assess my month’s stats on Monday and look into plugging more of them. When I went through my biggest losing pots around a week ago, I could’ve saved somewhere between 6-10 BI, which is encouraging.
I can definitely make big improvements in the consistency department. Studying and playing has not really been at fixed times which is likely not a good thing. I’ll address that.





APRIL GOALS

Gym: 4 sessions per week (+sauna – helps recovery and has solid health benefits)
Reading: “Flow – the psychology of optimal performance”, Elon Musk (biography)
Volume: 75k hands (might up the volume in later stages of my journey, but I think a 50:50 ratio of play:study is really good, especially in micros where you don’t really want to waste your time grinding a ton of volume and not improving at a steady rate)
PIO: 10 hours per week (splitting PIO study into 2 sessions per day – one before and one after my sessions – and increasing overall study-volume)
Session reviews: 3 per week (already started recording footage, so this is on its way as well)

WEEK 3 SUMMARY

Gym: 3/4
Reading: 62/428 – Elon Musk (biography) (110 pages would be the pace I’d need to be on to finish 2 books this month)
Volume: 12.1k/12.5k hands for this week
PIO: 7.25/10 - I need to start using fixed times at which I’m supposed to study, otherwise it's just too sporadic and inconsistent.
Session reviews: 1/3 – managed to get in one session of actual footage reviewing, other than that I reviewed HH’s with a mate multiple times this week which was productive

I’m starting to feel more comfortable playing 3 tables of zoom. Additionally, my mental energy isn’t getting drained as quickly anymore and I can play longer sessions without getting tilted. More parts of my strategy feel second nature and it doesn’t require as much active thinking about each spot (mostly early street play). Also starting to internalize blocker qualities which make good bluffing combos, even though I got called most of the time this week.

Reading: 96/428 – Elon Musk (biography) - too busy breathing poker from early to late, no more energy to read before bed lol
Volume: 25.3k/30k
PIO: 2/10 - felt comfortable with most of my default game, so putting in more PIO sessions without any designated goal in mind didn't feel incentivized
Session reviews: 3/3 – they've been very productive and sort of my main focus this week in addition to HH-reviews with a mate

Finally starting catching some heat toward the end of the week and also binked a $500 chest yesterday which was nuts.

WEEK 5 SUMMARY

Gym: 1/4 – minor wrist injury was a bit hindering, although I could’ve went to do cardio
Reading: 116/428 – Elon Musk (biography)
Volume: 35.5k/47.5k
PIO: 1 hour total – I recently watched a video by Jordan B. Peterson on scheduling and I noticed I was putting myself into a prison of a schedule, that I did not enjoy following. I’m trying to come up with one that is more enjoyable and productive.
Session reviews: 1/3 – mostly spent study time on watching videos, HH reviewing with a friend + and trying to find strengths/weaknesses in the games of other regulars (and my own game)

I'm definitely making progress on my game, even though variance has not been on my side recently. My mental game has been holding up quite well, despite the runbad. I guess I've reached the critical mass of bad beats, where they stop being as painful.
