A week or so decided to do it, gonna drop all uni stuff after this period, but still got like 4 exams and few assignments I plan to finish. After that I'm going to focus 100% on poker for at least until August, then I'll need to re-asses if I'm going to finish my bachelors and quit poker or if I'll continue to balance stuff or continue full pokermode. Poker is not the end goal for me, but merely a part time thing, which sadly is going to be dead soon, at least cashgames, so if I want to make it to highstakes, it's now or never, probably never.. BUT ILL TRY!

Been playing only NL200 for like 2 weeks now, and things are starting to click again, getting confidence back and just crushing stuff. Had around 30-40bi downswing that was quite brutal, but after playing with variance calculators it's not even that rare, especially with my gameplan that doesn't really brind the STDEV down (got like 110 STDDEV lol).

Like if I were a 5bb/100 winner (no idea how big winners ppl actually are at midstakes and where I actually fit in there, I think I'm good, but so does everyone else lol), a 110 STDEV over 100k hands looks like this. Pretty sick.

GOTTA EMBRACE THE VARIANCE! Lately been running good, but at 200 I just all the time see people making stupid **** or have blatantly overnitty stats, so definitely think I'm beating it for a decent bb/100.

Lifetime NL200 brag #LOLSAMPLE. What bb/100 does top NL200 regs have?

Gonna start adding 400 again soon, probably before the end of the month.

MTD graph BB graph. Not pretty, but **** happens. I'm happy if I'll get in the green in BB's, so I can say that I haven't had a losing BB month in a long time XDD. In terms of $$ it's quite impossible to get into green unless I'll start aggressively shottaking soon, might do that, might not do that. Last time it didn't end well.. The thing with aggro BR approach that tilts me is not the money I can lose. I don't feel the money while playing at all, but it's the idea of moving down and needing to grind a long time again to be in the same position with the goal of highstakes, that **** makes me depressed. A month ago I was in the position where if things would've gone a bit better, I would've pretty much been at my poker endgoal, which is grinding/bumhunting 1k.

Well that was long, but was bored. Decided to stop grinding weekends until 5am because so -lifeEV. Gonna go sleep now.

But yeah think people don't understand how bad variance is, I had two 30bi dswings in that sample, and both times felt like I was rot and couldn't win anymore. Just gotta keep your belief and confidence and grind through it,
02-22-2016 , 12:19 PM
Sick winrate over dat sample, which starts to actually be statistically significant unlike mine. : 333

Yeah variance is a bitch, but without it we wouldn't have the fish, so it's kinda like a necessary bad.

+1 on what PlasticElephant says, it can be so brutal and you feel so helpless and awful at poker, and the worst part is that nobody gives a **** and you just gotta get through it!

Feels good when you come out the other side.

Still downswinging and it's kinda soulcrushing. Nothing seems to be working and at times it just makes me play my B or C game and need to improve that. Doesn't help that pokergods seem to hate me at allin spots. I'd like to think that I'm just running very bad, but who the **** actually knows.

Lifetime NL100+ graph. It's still very small sample, and the downswing just ~50k sample, but pretty brutal. Still think I can beat games and the EV graph suggests that aswell. But as I'm now playing as a "pro" gonna start employing a more conservative BRM and gonna now be playing only NL200 for a while.

Do you play regular tables or zoom?
03-14-2016 , 12:48 PM
That's a pretty brutal downswing man but 40bi isn't the worst. I know that feeling all too well though and it can really sting. Are you playing just on stars?

Quick question when the SPR is low and we have like TPTK/Overpair to the board (also we are ahead of villain's range) and villain bets and there is essentially a PSB left...
    ^
We should have a x-raising range of TPTK/Overpairs for value?... (Also with the other AA you x-raised the turn with.)

"Well you know x/r is the new cbet"
How do you know villain's will call w/worse tho lol?

Is it the fact that we don't block villain's value range/TP combos in which he will be more likely to bet/call with when we x-jam w/overpairs to the board...

Also with that flop im guessing x-jamming AI is generally easier then betting and having to x on cards MW as well.

Has the downswing ended yet? That soul-crushing "way below EV" graph you posted a couple of months ago would certainly have destroyed my motivation.

Guess I could write short update as the games seem to be ****ing dead on a fkn saturday.

So I've thought about a bit why my things went so fkn sideways after the huge upswing i had during last nov-dec-jan period. Basically I just ran super hot, which I kinda knew at the time. So then I played with bad BRM and overestimated my edge at the time. I still think that I probably was +EV in most games I played at the time, but not a huge winner, if at all.

I also realized that I built a sampling bias on how I perceived people played some spots, which means that when I ran into a similiar spot like 10-20 times within small period and saw ppl folding all the time, I thought people overfold like **** there. So this led me to overbluff some spots with huge margins, and some regs prob realized that and kicked my ass.

After the upswing had huge downswing, which fkd up my mental game pretty hard, but lately i've gotten that into form a again.

ATM I'm grinding NL200, though played NL100ff for a week last month. Results last month wasn't great, but made some money. Was my first month as a fulltime player and also finished my coaching deal recently. Enjoy playing a lot and will play full time during summer. After that I need to decide wheter to continue uni and prob quit poker or sumting, or take like 6-18 months off and try to get to high stakes.

    PS. fk oof GAZZ!

Probably won't be updating blog anymore, dunno.

Yeaah that was trolll, never rly went busto, was kinda close tho lol, for a brief period last month I thought about quitting poker. Had to drop to NL100 for a while. Started NL200 this month, grinded hard and ~a week ago started adding NL400 games, been doing ok.

Did accounting for the month yesterday (thought it was the end of the month) and according my calcss, made around 11k post RB, nice month right after finishing my coaching contract, also made some money today, nto sure how much. PreRB winrate isn't anything amazing, but if I can make +10k months with this winrate, I'll take it.

Playing as a pro atm and if things keep going like this, will probably keep playing after summer. Just love playing poker atm.

Degenstory: Played 1k HU on this finnish site today with like 1.5 bi on the site vs fish/regfish/crazyperson and obv being heavily underrolled for 1k and wasnt comfortable with selling HU action because I'm literally have played prob like under 3k HU hands. Only lost 20bb tho : / HU is just so much fun though, need to learn it so i can lobbyboss the site in question.

Edit: redid the accounting and seems I won ~13.5k postRB

Great to hear you are doing better. Nice start for your career!
Definitely learn HU. Must have for starting games or when you get action vs fish.

    GL onwards!

2016 so far lol. Started playing full time at ~may, so my monthly volume basically doubled after that.

So yeah, I managed to actually get into the green bb-wise and $$-wise for the year, which is cool. Can't wait for next soulcrushing downswing. So I guess OP is now confirmed ****breakevenreg instead of trashlosingreg. I'd call that progress, but thats just me.

Luckily I've gotten a ton of rakeback #rakebackprolife, and also got ~10k winnings on various untracked sites, so it's not all that bad, really really really enjoy playing at the moment. Also as I'm now again easing into the upper midstakes, I'll try to avoid the mistake of throwing BRM into the bin like I kinda did last time #delusional****reg. And just slowly start adding higher stakes and get a proper feel for them with good proper +EV spots, before going full ****** on taking small +EV spots and starting to swing my dick around and eventually going almost busto again.

seems to me that the downswing has been quite humbling, and tbh that's gunna benefit you long term for sure. Got no doubt you can put in a good rest of year!

Well when you go from NL100 to NL400 in span of like 2-3 months it's kinda easy to think you are the boss. When it's mostly just running good and getting flawed sample of situations so you think you have figured ton of people out, but you just had a flawed sample of their gameplan.

Like I'm trying to say that I didn't really think I was better than I was because I thought I had figured the game out. My theory game is very good now and was pretty good then. But because I was running good spot wise, I thought others were worse than they in all likelihood were.
