been a bit lazy lately, I was feeling quite sick for the past 3 days, a cold caught me :/

exclusively playing 500nl atm and feeling well over the overall reg level

hopefully I can run good and get good results

I have been playing around with my Kindle Fire HDX too and Im loving it, it was a christmast present from my mother and I hadnt use it. Im downloading books like crazy, Final Fantasy III (WUUUT), Audio Books, etc. Im like 20% in on "an astronauts guide to life on earth" and Im liking it a lot, I knew Chris Hadfield from before and thought he was cool, but didnt know he had this book :O (thanks skraper for that). Also like 20% in on "Mental Game of Poker 2", and its been a cool read too, as always Tendler has some good strategies for gaining edges, I life the "in the zone" subject and always had, I had listened to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's TED talk about Flow and loved it, and it has a lot to do with that, I also bought his book called "Flow" right away and plan to read it in the future ;o . The book Im enjoying the most tho is Carl Sagan's "The Dragons of Eden", really cool book on how Human Intelligence evolved and came to be, the guy is really brilliant and presents his points in a very clear fashion, really interesting.

I basically changed all the time I was using in previous years on playing computer games into reading and doing sports and its definetly re activating my brain a good bit, feels good, it was unhealthy and ev- to spend so much time on games at this age tbh.

This week I start the "Champions League" of Chilean amateur football (yes foot+ball), I joined a team who were champions of their league last year, and every team who won their leagues last year participate in this Champion League, the level of chilean amateur football is pretty sick compared to other places. A lot of ex soccer players, university players with scolarships, a lot of almost-made-it-to-soccer-player people playing too haha, so its definetly a challenge. I went to try out at this team in which a cousin was playing and I entered in the 2nd half in replacement of him (we both play in the same position sadly, as a "10"), so I came in and played quite well, scored a goal in my first like 10 mins in (pretty cool goal too), so yeah they signed me right away and its gonna be super fun, hopefully my cousin will play as a foward when I get more integrated to the team so we can play togheter (he is really good too).

So overall life has been really good, been going out with a girl that I like too, and I know she likes me a lot, Im just not sure if I want to commit to a serious relation right now, seeing that I just ended a 8 year one a few months ago, maybe I wanna go live out or something, havent decided yet.

well, thats about it, gl everyone, this week I'll try to put more volume in O_o

cool update CS, nice progress!

Question for you... I'm thinking about heading out of Costa Rica for the rainy season but staying somewhere in Latin America. Do you have any recommendations for beach towns that have reliable internet?

thanks. mmmm good question. I would assume in Florianopolis (Brasil) which is a really nice place with lots of different beaches has good internet. most places there are very town-like. If you want something more like a city with beach, Viña del Mar in Chile is a very good option, tho it wont be too sunny in between May-August which is winter here, Brasil will always have the good weather.

There are some other places too, Punta del Este in Uruguay for example, but its REALLY expensive.

Florianopolis is a very good choice imo.

wall of text

been reading "The Mental Game of Poker 2" today.

I remembered when I read the "TMGP 1", it made me improve my overall poker game a lot. I had most stuff that I had to do figured out, but I really was failing mostly in other stuff, tilting too much, not applying what I knew correctly, spewing, making bad reads, etc.

I definetly think I improved a ton in that regard after reading the book, tho I never put that much hard work into it tbh. I did use the Model of being aware of my mental leaks, injecting logic, etc, but I never created a Mental Game profile, or worked hard in gathering a lot of data, etc. I stoped working with the book and its excercises when I was satisfied with the improvement I made. And tbh I think that improvement has stuck with me till today. I rarely tilt now, almost never spew or make stupid calls on badreads, and overall Im very solid in playing my game, etc. I havent fixed some issues tho like motivation to play, fear of losing (related to motivation), and well many others to lesser extent too.

I really like the methods for getting "in the Zone", which are quite similar to the ones for fixing Mental Leaks, I think its a solid system that really works, so Im gonna start working with that, and I plan on doing the hard work this time (just by thinking about it, it makes me kinda not want to do it, because its soo much work tbh, but when I realize that Im thinking this I try to breathe and inject logic on it and I realize its a must and its very +EV and I start liking the idea of doing it all over again -so Im applying the book's method to working with the book, and tbh this method can be applied to just about anything-). That means, doing the profiles, doing the warm ups, working in session in realizing mistakes, taking notes about it, and then doing the cool downs and working with this information all over again.

I think the method Im going to use is doing one big warm up when I start playing and then doing mini cooldowns when I stop and mini warm ups when I continue playing. (I usually play 3 to 4 sessions during the day). And doing a big cool down after Im done for the day. While in between taking notes in mid sessions.

I think Im going to use my favourite computer program to do all this, which is the amazinggg NOTEPAD!! I was thinking of other systems to doing it, like maybe writing on my Kindle tablet, which could make it more organized, -but its gonna take more time and trouble to write-, maybe doing it right here on my thread -but some of the info I probably dont want to share on a public forum-, maybe taking voice notes with the iphone for example -but its gonna be a lot slower to review and go over it-, so yeah I think just two notepad files for the day should do (one for the ingame reviews, containing warm up and cooldown for the day, and one with the profile and updating the profile), and then save them into folders inside a big folder containing all (if someone is good at this kinda stuff and has a better way, or a good program for tracking stuff like this pls let me know).

So yeaah, its gonna be a good ammount of work, but I know Im already using that time in other useless stuff and its gonna be much better spent doing this. I also want to work more on my mental game, and I think Im gonna do them togheter, the Mental Game fixes and the getting in the zone consistently work, because both are quite similar, or at least have a lot in common, specially in how you work on improving them.

Im gonna do all this because right now, I know my poker game is not perfect, but its quite good imo, and Im really finding it hard to find where to make big improvements. I know a few things which I have to improve, and Im 100% sure there are a lot more, but always pick the lowest hanging fruit in terms of looking what to work on, and definetly I think that improving my mental game even more, and getting into the zone more often are the things which can make my winrate improve the most atm. And also when you fix this things, you start applying a lot better what you already know, or even stuff you were forgeting or letting aside a bit, so its just gonna be an overall improvement not only in the mental aspect, but also in my tactical game.

Its probably one of the biggest things separating big winners to decent regs atm Id say. Of course we have to combine this with keeping an active life physical activy-wise, sleeping as well as we can, having a pro actitude towards the game, ffs we are competing each day, against competent individuals (mostly), we need every edge we can get,.

/end of wall of text

So yeah, Im going to be working on that, I also have to finish reading TMGP2 and re read a lot of TMGP. And of course grinding. Im going to be sharing some of the work Ima be doing too, Im just going to try to be careful with what Im sharing, as a good ammount of people who I play against read this thread -.-

well. gl guys. I might or might not post something soon related with my warm-up, goals or something. now back to reading some, maybe I'll play a small session too because Im kinda in the mood, but I want to sort how Im going to do all of this first before I start grinding hard, hopefully I can do it today

Hey, do you think it is necessary to buy additional Software like Hold'em Manager to properly evaluate your game and become better? Is there any free alternative to it?

Have you got further hints or books for me? I struggle at the later stages of MTTs, especially at the final Table.
Also I´ve got problems, if I'll get a huge lead in a MTT (+~50-100 BB) should I pay off a 15 bb from the button with AJ s? My stack always seems to melt, whatever approach I take.

yeah I think hem is 100% worth the investment, helps you alot, you can determine faster and more precisely how other players are playing spots that you dont usually have time or mental space to realise and it also helps you to keep track of your own game

not really man, just hard work and study. mmm Im not sure actually, I guess it depends on the player who shoves, who is behind to act, how many players are left, etc. I think there are programs that help you with that, like SNG Wizard and stuff

Been really sick the last few days, havent been able to play almost anything, have mist some coachings (sorry to those I didnt get to notify). Anyways, I hope Im feeling better tomorrow, I really want to play, being sick sucks

There is something which is tilting me big time tho, today for the first time I watched zoom, to see how the 1k nl games were, and I started to realize almost every hand ended in all the money going in, or at least always a 50bb+ pot, 4bet pots all the time, now Im watching 500nl zoom instead of playing, and every single pot ive seen, from out of like 10 has ended up with all the money going in.

WTF haha. are them replays of previous hands to make zoom look more attractive or what, could someone explain :P

my notebook is really stuck atm so I will post the graph later

didnt play well at all today. I was losing like 4k running really bad, managed to get back to around -$500 and then ended up losing like $-3k after coming back, there were a good ammount of fish but I just was not playing well and made a few mistakes which I shouldnt have, I guess I played too much for the day and I should not have played that last session :/

I didn't want to post what I'm about to but feel that it's necessary and frankly quite overdue.

TL;DR Version: Purchased a coaching package from OP. Received one lesson. Have had difficulty in maintaining contact with OP and have been unable to schedule a second lesson in four months since purchasing package.

I contacted chillskill in late January regarding coaching. I initially only wanted to purchase one hour/one session as a 'feeler'. If I felt the coaching would prove beneficial I fully intended on purchasing additional hours. After adding chillskill on Skype I inquired about this. He told me that he only sold coaching packages and not individual lessons. He sold either five lessons for $550 or 10 lessons for $950. A lesson would last one hour. I mulled this over and eventually got back to him, deciding to purchase the five lesson package.

We agreed to the package on Feb 2nd and I sent the entire $550 fee upfront. At the same time we set up our first lesson for the coming Thursday, Feb 6th. The lesson went quite well in my opinion. We discussed a variety of pre-flop topics and general strategy, including; opening ranges by position, 3betting ranges, playing from the SB vs. steals, 3b and 4b bluff-to-value ratios, preflop open sizings and a few other topics. chillskill and I also did a leakfinder of a recent sample of my hands. While I didn't agree with everything covered I felt I did learn a lot and my game realized immediate improvement. At the end of the lesson chillskill told me to contact him over the weekend to arrange our second lesson which would cover an overview of postflop play. This is where things went sour.

I contacted chillskill shortly after to arrange our second lesson the following week. I've blocked out chillskill's first name in the case he doesn't want it made public.

<<< hey man. xxx. obviously now I won't require additional sessions with you. was wondering if you would be able to transfer the bulk of the coaching fees back?hey man need to know whats going on

Prior to May 19th I was considering contacting chillskill and asking for a refund since I had had only one lesson in three months with him, including me contacting and attempting to establish a session on multiple occasions. Now I don't require the four lessons that I paid for in February and would simply like the remaining funds transferred back to me. This is far from unreasonable since I feel that chillskill made little effort to contact me or schedule additional lessons. The opportunity cost of me being unable to hire another coach and work on my game for months is also much higher than the $440 in coaching equity owed to me.

I really didn't want to post this here but felt it was the only way to settle the matter. I also posted all of our Skype interaction from my desktop - there may be more from my laptop but I'm unsure. I believe this is fair to other players considering purchasing coaching. If you're offering coaching for $100/hr+ you need to be held accountable. Hopefully this post helps achieve that in some form.

Jesse
