I'm back and in new territory so to speak. For the the first time I am now playing for the moniez rather than just the sheets n giggles. I am not never no pro and I think the term "semi-pro" is just about the suckiest thing anybody could call themselves, so I'm going to call myself...

oldmancoffeeseriousrecreationalregular, because it just trips off the tongue.

Starting out at 25nl 6 max reg speed, four tabling. Goal is to get to 50nl within two months (so by October).

I've set aside 18 hours a week minimum for poker, of which 12 hours will be spent playing and six hours studying. I'm hoping to get that up to 24 hours, maybe even 30, but its doubtful I'll ever manage more than that (life innit).

Last three weeks I've been painstakingly working my way through Janda's book and I've also been reading The Grinders Manual (Carroters, he's on here).

Interesting piece of work that (TGM). In part it is massively beginners orientated, but equally there are some really insightful chapters on how to apply knowledge in-game. IMHO a really good read. Anyway I got it for free on my Kindle account, so what's not to like.

Carroters makes a point that a lot of people only post big/full pot hands on forums for analysis, so they miss a lot of tricky flop spots that could do with forum analysis...I totally agree with that, so I'm gonna mix it up whilst at 25nl and call it...

"flops n pots". Big hands and little ones too. Looking for lots of feedback from the usual suspects, but I won't be doing the detailed analysis so much now. More a case of lots of hands - quick reviews.

And, as always, banter is gogo.

GL all...followed a few of your threads on my travels, seems the road has got bumpy for a few recently.

Missed this till now as well but looks like we've got pretty similar goals in the sense of having no urge to "go pro" but wanting to improve and be good rec/regs. In

As for the hands:

1. Would just start by betting like half pot with 77 and expect to get called by all his Ax

2. QQ - Would go a little bigger pre like $5ish but think post is good. Would assume he bets any better hand on turn or river so would bet 1/3rd pot at the end and hope he tries to hero a 99/JJ or something.

3. I'd go bigger on flop, as played I honestly have no idea what's best lol

4. Think flop check is good, turn is meh. I don't think betting is terrible but I guess you have a lot of underpairs and weak Ax after you don't bet flop which he might realise and then try to bluff. Could check back turn/call almost any river I guess.

GL anyway!

Meale, none taken, enjoyed catching up on your thread - always entertaining

1. 77 on A47tt. Standard c-bet for value and you can go small with a wide range or big with a narrow one (more polarized). Obvious bets are AJ+, flush draws and backdoor flush draws. Obvious checks are AT-66 and random low-equity hands (like T9cc). I wouldn't expect to get much value in this spot though. Villain often has a hand like 99 that will only call once.

2. QQ 4b otb vs SB's 3bet on KT2r, it's probably GTO to mix with this hand and actually c-bet it sometimes, but I would literally always check it back. As long as you check back some Kxs (including AK if you don't have many other Kx), your XB range is sturdy enough to defend on the turn. KK, KTs and AA can all bet, but I'm not sure what bluffs you have, as I don't know your 4-betting range. AJ or A5s maybe? Checking back turn looks fine. Bet half pot on the river to get paid by Tx or worse.

3. AA. Looks fairly standard. In theory it should be a breakeven call on the river. In reality, villain probably has you crushed, as I don't see him turning 76s/54s/J9s into a bluff.

4. KK on AT7r. Standard XB on flop. I like checking back the turn too. It's not as if villain suddenly has a ton of flush draws in his range, as the ace is on the board, and the K is in your hand. Just delay c-bet your Ax and draws. As played, fold to the XR.

Good luck with your new challenge, Mr. SeriousRecReg.

Cleared my hours goals for the week...nice session to end with

Lots of hands to review now...will post some later.

Re the last fours hands

77 I bet, he folded (as expected), asking the question because with the ace on the flop is there any merit in slow playing it - I guess not.

QQ I messed up the river (x'd it he had 88) because I was managing tables. I like to post my more obvious FUs because the inevitable slap down helps me to not make basic errors again. So thanks to Meale for the slap.

AA At the time villain looked much nittier, later on he had turned more taggish, so I'm inclined to think this is very b/e. Nice to make disciplined folds though.

KK should x/b turn. Only posted this coz I only had 4 hands marked from my first session in a month.

Gots tons more better ones now

cheers all for the feedback.

Oh...and I have a a cracking real poker story (no pun intended)

You settle in for a solid session...all is quite in your world...

You flop early monster and panic jam turn (villain folds).

Were you distracted by:

[ ] Your business partner calling you that the fraud squad have just pitched up at your office.
[x] Three potheads parking their dodgy motor on your back lawn

Weird and complicated hand.

This is how I saw it at the time, but I don't pretend I was ever that sure what was going on.

Preflop. Cold calling 3bet sucks for sure, but given the ranges look pretty strong, pretty much everything sucks.

open folding QQ on the btn - sucks
4bet/folding QQ on the btn - sucks
playing QQ for stacks versus strong ranges pre - sucks

Post

Flop...weird. The board slaps UTG and CO, nobody want to play.

Turn. OK, BB & UTG arn't interested and CO smells like KK or a draw, or probably both...which is bad news, but he just gave me 3:1.

BB&UTG fold...bout the only thing I got right.

Cbetting in 3bet pots, bit of a leak. I've been studying some resource on it and would gladly appreciate some input from you guys.

Here's a selection of real recent hands at 25nl 6 max reg speed.

Do you cbet or not? (can comment on the preflop, which you will anyway, but it's not really about that). Bet size comments also welcome.

At the risk of shameless self promotion, to answer your question from a few posts back yes I do have a PGC!

Regards to cbetting I guess it's villain dependant but in general suspect my answers would be:

1. No
2. For sure yes
3. No
4. Yes
5. Not sure but with overs and BD spades against a wide range probably yeah
6. Assuming the BB is a fish given the stats then yeah most likely betting
7. Close, Honestly not sure what's best here
8. Yes

A3 I cbet 1/3 pot if we're BTN or SB
A8 idk why you're 3betting, as played cbet 1/3 pot
A3 check, delayed cbet
TT exploitatively cbet quite large (normally cbet like 45% pot, because nobody's going to realise and we need protection I'd do 2/3 pot with this hand)
KQ go half pot
AQ are you BTN or SB? If BTN, go like 40% pot, if SB, like 60%
A5 I assume you're SB, and I x/c this spot mostly but I'd cbet like two-fifths of the time
KT meh, think bet and check are pretty close in EV, purely because this goes x/x quite often and then delayed cbetting prints
