Long time break even rec, achieved FA, more time free for poker, ambition: get better.

Bankroll/learning roll - $1500 (possibly more soon)

Start with 5nlz. Why? Two reasons, I need to find my current level and I need to generate a lot hands for analysis (don't really like zoom, but wtf)

Immediate learning goals: hand read in game with much combo analysis (I have got Combonator to assist with post game analysis.)

Will be posting lots of hands and I'm hoping for plenty feedback on them. Banter welcome (and encouraged), slap downs also welcomed, but out and out negativity, not here thanks.

OK this looks fishy but here's the meta game... I'm newish to Zoom and I figure you gotta get value from these semi decent hands somehow and I don't mind the variance at all, esp as I looking to get deep stacked. Oh and I have run it twice on for this purpose.

I had a very quick look at the hands, so don't expect first rate analysis.

1. Call me a nit, but I don't open Q5s in the CO, or call a 3-bet with it.

2. 98 looks fine. Check-calling riv would be my plan too, but I might fold if villain bets big, repping QT/KJ.

3. KQs UTG vs MP, I would usually fold to the 3-bet, but 4-betting is an option. I don't like calling with it OOP even though it's my fave hand.

4. With JJ on Axx in position I usually check back the flop, and I do the same with some Ax hands. When villain check-calls he often has KK/QQ, but also has some slowplayed monsters. I think JJ is too good to turn into a bluff. Just try and get to showdown.

5. With the 33 on QJ3tt, always check-raise the flop, as villain has a lot of draws and pairs that can call. Bomb safe turns.

6. The squeeze with TT is good.

7. With JJ on 999, most lines are viable. I'd usually check the flop or turn though. Not expecting to win a big pot on a bingo board like that.

8. J8s you can fold to the 3-bet, but it's close. (I call with J9s). Post-flop is fine.

Your input is most appreciated....quicklooks are very valid and valuable.

Q5s hand effective stack 200bb change anything? (100bb I fold it pre unless the steal is a no brainer, and obv to any 3bet)

Got some solid poker time booked for this weekend...planning a wee training exercise...later.

So I have a full weekend of poker ahead and the focus will be on training including off table work. I have set two wee exercises, one of which is intended to develop my use of Combonator for hand analysis.

The following three hands are from a zoom session just now. My in game thoughts are laid out, but here's the twist.

I don't villains hole cards...I shielded them out. I know of course whether I won or lost, but other than that I know what you will know.

Not interested in the spazzy line or bet sizing, these are contrived hands to try and generate information for the river.

So your questions are:

What is villain's range.
What are your comments on my in game thinking (have at it - I'm up for it)

And sorry the hands are boring as ****, it was just that sort of session.

turn oohh come to daddy, so now it's about extracting value. Villain is pretty wide, but based on him being an unknown 5nl reg 99, 33, are often going to 3bet, so I am not worried about sets. My best hope is he has picked up a heart draw or he is just gonna try and outplay me.

River. I have wee tank, I'm always ahead now, what can I get him to call if he has picked up a pair somewhere?

Note for a long, long time I've been neglecting the river...doing this is giving me a bit of a stiffy.

Turn

River

Reappraisal (I'm making this up ) am I overplaying this, I have no idea of villains range...xc (a reasonable bet) seems the safe option.

Exercise Number 2 is much simpler and a lot more fun. I love the way every 5nlz zoom reg has monster light 3bet range, so I thought I'd find out (empirically) how much of it is just b/s.

So for now I'm 4bet jamming my whole opening range against 100 deep regs.

So far I've gotten 9 folds and 2 calls (AK and QQ). Two of the folds were squeezes.

I'll keep you infoe'd

PS

I'm not dumb enough to think that lessons learnt at 5nlz apply to 50nlz, but by the time I get to 50nl I'll be back on reg sp tables and my usual exploitative game.

17 folds 9 calls -

7 calls AAx2 AKx3 KK and QQ

2 fishy outliers KJ and 22

So from #12

Grrrrrrr

So I just typed out a full ****ing analysis of these hands and ****ing lost it to a Bills Gates moment - ***t.

Cliffs

still don't know what villains had

Hand 1

Fine. b/f river and x/c (a half potter) both valid. Villain has 88/99/66 or hearts. Betting my bluff catcher is valid because villain is a nit and he would 88//99 to an overbet.

Hand 2

Fine. cbet is better than I thought it was at the time. Villain has a weak 9 or a heart suited J.

Hand 3

Overbet Cbet is wrong, but there is a total information deficit which makes value betting the river too dangerous. xc much safer and probably gets more value.

Now the fun bit...if i can find the hands in my database.

Cash micro stakes on a Saturday night...**** me, so that was what 2003 was like. I bet you long timers miss those days

All the regs sitting on 800bb stacks and all the fish going mental with the square root of f'all.

I'm quite ill at the moment and can't really think straight, but I looked at post #12 the other day. I had a few thoughts about villains' river ranges in each situation, but tbh I'm not really sure because I never get into those spots. 87s and A2o are both folds pre for me. (The 87s in particular is a must fold. You can't make a habit of cold-calling 3-bets with 8-high, when you're not even closing the action. The A2 looks fine for post-flop. That's a standard triple barrel.) With 54s, I'd check the turn and then call down, as villain has some sets and straights as well as single pairs and bluffs.

^^ Cheers, I'll review that...bear in mind I'm not trying to play profitably, I'm trying to generate a lot of thinking situations.

Just back from Spain..rain, clouds, food poisoning. WTF do I bother

Random hand just to get back into the swing.

There was no button crunching here...I did the math flop and turn. Given villain looks a nailed on nit, what he showed up with was a surprise. I played him for TP. Kinda suggests he has me as a fish, which would fine based on my wonky stats.

So my first ever full combo hand analysis

really sorry about the rubbish hand posting...did this on my other pooter and forgot to HM synch before I left...now in another locale

PS 5nlz, villain unknown

fold to btn, who 3x

I 3bet Q9 diamonds 12x (standard imo), btn calls.

Flop A clubs, T clubs, 6 spades

I cbet 66% pot, more aces in my range than his - (I put villain on random 33% btn opening range and subtract his 4bet range AA-99, AQo+ ATs+)

Villain calls

I put him on weak ace, pairs, club draw

Turn

9H

Gives me SD value, but I'm in bad shape and that's no card to barrel, so I decide x/f. Villain x's it back.

River

7D

that's a peachy river (misses everything but 77)

I x for sd, villain bets less than half pot, giving me 2.6:1 pot odds, I need 28% equity to call I figure I easy have that (w/o any mental math going on in game)

I call, villain bluffed the missed club flush draw.

Now the hand analysis, post game

Cbet is a bit meh

I pick up a lot of equity with the 9

So by the turn...

Villain has about a third of his range (total 269 combos) as aces (102 combos) which destroy me

about 13% as under pairs (36 combos) which I destroy

about 30% as OESD, gutshot+ pairs, which I have 36% equity against

and about 7% flush draws which Iim up 61% against.

Plus a small amount of other stuff which I ignore.

River is a clear x/c depending on pot odds and I was right, but only just as I have 28% against this whole range

Note it's a bit better than that as should have removed some of his Ace two pair, which gives me 30.1%.

fkn loving this...why did I never do it before.

Anyway I guess the questions from this hand are then

cbet y/n?
turn barrel y/n?

Let's unpack it. I said in op the condition I'm expecting is btn to call. There is a low chance btn will 4bet and an even lower chance btn will fold. If btn plays as expected it gives me 2.5:1 to call and I reckon 28% preflop equity against likely ranges so close enough.

I need to see later streets, but given the aggressor is oop to two villains and potentially thin, that's very likely. I'm a little deep to the SB PFR and IP, and I reckon I have a later street edge at 5nlz.

So I'm going to go ahead and say I'm well comfortable with the preflop call, so I guess it's pistols at dawn.

You fold Axo on the btn in an unopened pot...that's confusing. Is this a zoom v reg spd thing????

yeah makes sense. This hand still gives me a headache

Cheers for the feedback, hope you are better, onwards.

For the Q9s, were you in the SB or BB? I think it's OK to 3-bet in both spots, but I'd usually fold in the SB and call in the BB, as I'm very comfortable playing marginal hands OOP with high SPRs, but less comfortable playing marginal hands OOP with low SPRs. If you 3-bet, 12x seems too big. A pot-sized raise in the BB is only 9.5bb.

C-bet only needs to be half-pot in a bloated pot, especially on a board where villain is folding underpairs worse than Tx, and can't have the NFD. Looks fine after that. River is very close, so it depends on size, but this hand is close to the bottom of your range (J9s should also break even). You've got many better bluff-catchers.

A pseudo GTO thing. My button range is narrower than most. I fold A3o and A2o by default. I think you can exploitatively open much wider than I do, but I hate offsuit dominated junk, and anything with reverse implied odds. I want hands that flop decent draws, not lousy pairs.

I see this sort of statement a lot in good hand analysis talk these days, but I'm not sure I'm clear on the implication....meaning i should consider all the hands in my range here and what I do with them?????

Could you explain long hand (since you are on the bench so to speak)

I think it was small blind...I'm trying to play a lot of 3bet pots because postflop play in 3bet pots, esp oop, is one of my many Achilles Heels. Yeah the cbet was too big and I'm already lowering my oop 3bet size.

yeah....overstealing/restealing at zoom is exploitative....... I think
