Villain in MH 9 was 59/31/11/25 across 29 hands. Flop agg 3/15, turn agg 2/10, river agg 3/7. Some Villain's like to trap. I think this Villain's overall lack of agg warrants a simple fold otr.

MH 10 was literally the first hand I played at this table. I think it's a mistake to not bet the flop as we give Villain a free card to improve to a better hand as happened here. As played I think a turn call is ok, but I think the river call is a mistake vs an unknown Villain.

Ugh, just had one of those sessions. Played 4 tables 50NL for about an hour: KK<AA; KK<AA; AxA<QT on a KJx flop; set of 8's ran into set of J's vs fish; and bluffed a stack into the nuts. The last one is prob a mistake and one of the KK<AA I seriously considered folding ott bc of bet timing, and board run out. (Will post that one.) The other KK was all-in pre. The bluff was on a paired, low board: 92327. Hero x-r ott, and shoved river. Was trying to get a tight Villain off and OP. They ended up having 99 for the FH.

Here's one of the KK vs AA hands:

Villain used ~25 sec ott. Weird line, betting 2 sts from oop and overbetting ott. Just seemed really strong at the time.

Four tabled 50NL for 2h. +2BI. Felt really on top of my game. Won a lot of small and medium pots. I don't think I played terrible in the sesh I posted about above. I mostly ran horribly. I don't like the bluff I mentioned because it's hard to know if Villains are folding OP's there enough even if they seem like a nit.

Oh yeah, to be more in line with the title of the thread, and to help myself maintain such, I will prob start posting about exercise and maybe other parts of life. This past week I stretched myself a bit thin to play more poker, but not terribly so. My back has been feeling a little weird the past few days. I do some core exercises to fix that and got back into them this past week, but I need to do more for it to have the desired affect. Cardio is a very important part of my life too. I just feel so much better with it in my life and I'm sure it helps my poker game. I don't need to run a marathon tho. I want to continue to get as many hands in each week as I can while taking care of the rest of life. Cardio three times a week is enough. I want to get at least one >=3mi run in. Otherwise I bike to and from work (3.66mi one way) often enough to get the rest of my cardio. The core workouts take at least 30 min if I'm doing enough sets and reps to correct my back. Need 4 of these 30 min workouts each week. Otherwise it's a matter of spending enough time with family and friends.

Week 3 Goals:

[] Do 1 >= 3 mi run

[] Bike to and from work 2 days or substitute 3 mi run(s)

[] Do 20-30 min core workouts 4 days

That's it for my goals. The thing about getting in hands and working on my game is that I find myself naturally doing that with my free time. That's why it's important for me to set these goals outside of poker. It's easy to spend my time on poker whether it's playing or studying. (Btw, I played over 200% more hands than I anticipated in Week 2.) It takes some planning and effort to achieve these other goals and keep my life more in balance.

It's so common for Villains to play fit-or-fold that with a low, fairly uncoordinated board like this it almost seems +ev to bet the flop w/o any chance of improving. BTN seemed pretty straightforward--wouldn't bluff-raise and would fold overcards. SB was unknown w/only 9 hands.

I agree w/sizing up ott.

Yeah, w/o info on this Villain I think it is a fold.

4 tabled 50NL this morning for about an hour, won 2 BI's. Seemed like great tables and would have loved to play longer, but had some other important stuff to do.

Played the second sesh of the day a little while ago, another hour of 4 50NL tables and lost 2.5 BI's. Had more than I can handle going on: my 4.5 year old daughter needed about 6 different snacks to eat at 6 different points in time; she also needed me to put on a different show and wait for her to carefully decide which one about 5 times (my mistake on not having something going that would autoplay the next show); I was also feeding myself and making tea; then I had to get the bath going. There's probably more, but it's pretty obvious already that it's too much. I love to play, but it's better to just wait until it's not going to be so hectic as well as prepare (by setting her up w/autoplay shows; having my food and tea ready; etc.). I've done plenty of other sessions while watching her in which I've minimized these other distractions and they've gone alright. When my daughter is awake tho there's always going to be more multitasking going on than when I have some time to myself. Sometimes you just gotta make the best of what you have to work with.

This of course brings to mind the life balance theme of this thread too. I don't want my daughter to rot her brain in front of a TV or tablet. I let her do both quite a bit, but in recent weeks, despite playing so much poker I've still done a job I'm happy w/IRT getting her away from the screen and spending time with her. We work on math problems and work on reading together almost daily. We also do a memory exercise; soon I'll incorporate some science.

Also, I want to say that during the sesh that went poorly (I did run poorly too) I found myself breaking the rules and guidelines I have on notecards attached to my screen. My hope is to develop my game so that I stick to these rules and guidelines even when I'm tired and distracted. I think I should be 10 times more dogged about following them when conditions are less than ideal for 2 reasons: 1)With my attention being pulled elsewhere it will obviously take more effort to stay on track with the rules and guidelines. 2) The rules and guidelines simplify my game. I'm less likely to get into bad spots in big hands. It gives me something to hold onto, to redirect my attention to in the less than ideal conditions. Per Mental Game of Poker 2, I want following these rules and guidelines to be the back end of my range IRT the inchworm concept. Part of it is developing this habit so it's close to automatic. At the same time tho there's a line between when I'm ready to play and when I'm not ready as I discussed in the second paragraph.

Played a third session: 2 hours 4 50NL. Lost ~3 BI. Ran bad, played mediocre at best. It's really irritating when DriveHUD stops working. It'll just lock up on a certain table. If you're not careful you can misread villain because all the stats are still there, but it just hasn't been tracking the last however many hands. Also, it seems to miss some 3bets--just not track them for whatever reason. I was tired from several days of getting maybe 7 hours of sleep and from not exercising. So this is about my limit of grinding instead of sleeping and exercising. Time to get back on track in that regard.

I probably would have been better off 3 tabling since DriveHUD seemed to be working so poorly. That way I could track the action better mentally and be more on top of stats being incorrect. Felt like I lost more than 3 BI. Whatever.

I plan on getting a run in tomorrow and prob at least part of a workout.

There we go. Just 3 tabled 50NL for ~1h, +1BI. Played really well. Pretty distraction free, despite my daughter being awake (and gf). Like getting the more hands in per h with 4 tables, but I just needed to get in a sesh in which I felt like I played really well after 2 bad sessions I a row.

Btw, one of the weirdest things happened last night. I clicked time bank and you know how it locks in place after you click it. It locked in the down or clicked position w/30 sec on it and when my regular 30 timed out it sat me out. Bizarre.

I've been able get so many hands in recently bc I used 3 vacation days in the past 2 weeks. My goal is to use only 1 vacation day in the next 2.5 months so as to have enough vacation days for the 2nd half of the year.

Played ~3h this morning, lost 2.5 BI's. Been running pretty bad I think. Didn't think I played terribly, but there's some big bluff spots in which I really need to use Flopzilla and take a hard look at to determine if they are +ev or not. W/limited time tho not sure when I will get to that.

Did get the 3 mi run in yesterday and part of a workout.

I think I will set poker goals starting next week after all. I don't like things feeling so unstructured in regard to poker. I can look at the time I anticipate having available and plan some goals accordingly. I should keep it in mind that my overall goal is to build a bankroll to play live part time with by somewhere in the 2nd half of 2019 (or beyond depending how variance treats me and depending on how winning my game really is) while keeping my life in balance. I'm just not going to be able to get 5k hands in every week like I did last week.

I've been playing like garbage. I think in some of the other recent sessions I didn't admit this to myself. I've been making numerous costly mistakes. I'm just on autopilot and that's definitely not winning for me. I need to go back to playing at most 3 tables for a while. I haven't been able to mentally track the action. DH has been malfunctioning. It's tilting for DH to disappear when I'm in a hand and then it reappears after the hand to remind me that was the Villain who never bets and now they just shoved their entire stack in.

Mindlessness. I've either been too distracted or too tired to play winning poker. I might even take the rest of the week off. Prob not tho. Usually how it goes is I will want to play. Do I want to win tho? Well I need to slow down w/the volume and study some and play 2-3 tables. If I don't have the patience for that I shouldn't be playing.

Made sort of this flow chart a few months ago:

1) Do I have some distraction free time?

2) Am I awake and alert enough?

3) Will playing poker interfere w/the other things I want to get done too much?

4) Do I want to play?

So ofc if I answer 1)yes 2)yes 3)No 4)yes then play. Otherwise don't play.

Haven't played since yesterday morning. That's unusual for me as I usually come home from work (get home ~1130p) and play for about an hour. But on another 11 BI downswing. This time around I am running poorly. But I would attribute a higher percentage to playing bad this time.

I had my BR over 2100 at one point on Monday. I have a tendency to get cocky when things are going so well like they were at the time. What this means is that I stop putting in the work that makes me successful. This trend has also played out for me in chess and probably other areas of life if I stop to think hard enough about it. So I was running great and stopped thinking thru decisions to make sure I was playing in a +ev fashion and then I started running pretty bad and started spewing.

I read some of Oliver Twist and a free local newspaper called the Isthmus instead of anything poker last night when I got home. Played w/the cat a little more than usual. Then this morning I started looking up what Villain's hand in hands that I had jotted down over the previous week or so. I see some errors in how I range Villains in 4! pots. In the previous 11BI downswing there was a lot of getting AK in pre only to run up against AA and KK. So I've been working on play in 4! pots.

Also, I don't often do ev calcs on paper. I often do estimation in my head during play. (During this downswing tho I think I've just been clicking buttons.) But it's fun and I think important in building my game to fire up Poker Stove and work out a math problem. This morning I worked out a x=dead money in the pot problem in which we figured out how much money we needed in the pot to break even being a slight dog.

4 tabled 50NL for about 2h this morning. Played well most of the time, but then spewed hard in a few spots that prob cost ~2BI. It's not cool that I work so hard to play in a +ev fashion only to squander my winnings on a handful of stupid, hugely -ev plays.

I think I'm getting a little better at playing off V's stats. But there's still too many instances in which V's stats say one thing and I don't play accordingly. This is illogical, irrational. Poker is a game of limited information. Going by that limited information is the best we can do. Anything else is playing in a way that is less than the most +ev.

I've been using Flopzilla more the past couple of days. It's fun and very helpful. I will continue to use this daily I think. Sure I have limited time, but if I'm going to play poker the only way is to spend some time working on my game.

Btw, only got 5-6h of sleep last night because of distractions this morning. This is likely a factor in the spew plays I referred to above. Working on my sleep game is important IRT poker too. I had usually been sleeping till 9a and then having a pretty productive morning. But recently I've been thinking about getting up earlier as my daughter gets up ~7a. Then I would take a nap before work. I just don't think napping will work as well as sleeping straight thru as there's going to be a lot of distractions to navigate and it's definitely going to take a lot of planning.

Week 3:

Hands Played: 3545

-278

BR: 1749

[X] Do 1 >= 3 mi run

[X] Bike to and from work 2 days or substitute 3 mi run(s)==>(Actually biked to and from 3 days.)

[X] Do 20-30 min core workouts 4 days

Met all of my exercise goals, though I did end up doing 3 sets of exercises at the very end of the week--got em done after I got home from work or about an hour ago. I continue to play more hands than the originally anticipated 1500/wk. Part of this is being pretty comfortable 4 tabling. I still get into situations in which I'm in big hands on multiple tables and I no doubt make mistakes trying to handle so much at once. On the bright side tho I love getting in so many hands because I have more to study with. Plus, if I analyze these big hands after the fact I will be better prepared for future big hands and the less time it will take me to make decisions in those spots. In other words I will become better at handling being in big hands on multiple tables.

Week 4 Goals:

[] Do 1 >= 3 mi run

[] Bike to and from work 2 days or substitute 3 mi run(s)

[] Do 20-30 min core workouts 4 days

[] Study 5 hours

[] Play 3k hands

[] Arrive at work 10 min prior to start time

I want to continue in a similar manner to Week 3 in regard to exercise. I want to increase the reps for pretty much every exercise I do as I'm able to. Also, I'm considering doing 5 or 6 workouts instead of just 4, but doing just 4 will meet my goal. Studying 5 hours might be too lofty. I really don't know how much I study as I don't usually keep track. However, it's a starting point and if I find that that's just too much I will set a lower goal next week. I enjoy studying it's just that my time is limited. Playing 3k hands each week all of a sudden seems doable. I actually didn't use any vacation days in Week 3. I did have the Sat and Sun before Week 3 off, which I don't normally have. (I normally have Mon and Tue off.) So maybe I got some stuff done then that I normally would have done on my normal days off. Anyway, will give it a shot in Week 4. Arriving 10 min prior to my start time may seem like a weird one. I've had the habit throughout my life of either being late or cutting it really close. At my job being late is a really big deal and I've done a pretty great job of not being late. But I usually cut it really close. One day I did get caught up in traffic and was late. If I had given myself more time I may have made it on time. I had been getting there w/about 10 min to spare in Week 3, but today (Sunday) I only had 5 min to spare. For me that's still good. But I actually don't like being in a rush. I felt like my whole day was hectic and I feel like having that 10 minutes of downtime to shoot the breeze with coworkers, veg out reading 2+2 forums, or whatever is an important break that helps set the tone for my entire shift.

MH 10: don't think you can fold, he can pretty much only have TT which beats you.
plus we are quite up in our range, assumed that we don't 3bet TT. if you want to fold a AK combo, it should be the one with the AsKx

MH11: i don't iso this even vs fish, i mean it is not even an regular open. but not too bad i guess. you can raise flop even higher, never folding OTT. you are even getting the right odds to call for your FH outs

MH 10: Ok so maybe Villain has AQ, AJ, QJ in their range which Hero has ~52% equity against. 6 combos of AK for a spit pot. Villain beats us with 3 combos of TT, 1 combo of KK, 6 combos of AA. Sure some of the time Villain is going to 4bet AA pre, but I don't think flat calling is that uncommon. Anyway, vs this Villain w/ this line I think at best we are about break even minus rake. Vs this entire range Hero has 30.5% equity, which is why I think it's a fold. Maybe you can argue a different enough range for Villain to make it a call or shove, but I'm going to need some convincing bc I just can't see it.

MH 11: Hero is getting 20:6 or about 3.33:1. There's 4 cards that give Hero a FH: 2 K's and 2 9's. That means we need ~10:1 pot odds just to break even so not sure how you think we're getting the odds to call for FH outs. As for the iso, I still like it. I can be on board w/raising bigger otf.

Villains stats: 26/16/22/39 over 41 hands. I remember I was sick of getting 3bet and not fighting back. This is an area of my game I need to work on. I don't know what hole cards are best for calling with; which I should be 4betting with; and which I should just fold. When Villain 5bet I was hoping to be up against AK. Other than working on my game in this area my other option is to switch tables when there's a frequent 3bettor sitting to my left.

Played 4 sessions so far this week, 1469 hands. During one of them I ran pretty great, coolered Villains. The last one was a little frustrating. Played well in a lot of spots, but got a little sloppy and played too loose. That cockiness came back. I don't like it. Just makes me a fool. I'd rather stay humble and work toward playing great poker.

One mistake I saw myself exhibit this last sesh is not folding to unknown Villain's aggression early enough. In general if a Villain x-r ott, and then bets river it's pretty strong. Plus, a Villain who's stats I was familiar with left the table and I was not aware of this and still played the new Villain as if they had the old stats. Then in one spot a non-agro Villain bet otr and I knew I was beat, but called anyway. If I want my winrate to go up I gotta save those 4bb's. There were probably at least a few other spots otr in which I prob should have folded.

Oh, I watched some of Brokenstars' twitch stream. I consider this study time toward my study goal. I also responded to a post itt about 2 hands I've posted and I consider the time I looked over these hands and responded as study time as well.

Good volume so far, 1h of study time, no workouts and no run so far. I think I will enjoy looking over hands, seeing what Villains had, opening Flopzilla and looking at ranges and equities to work on my game and hit some of the remaining 4h to reach my study goal.

Btw, I'm stoked to have this new note taking system in which I draw symbols that represent bluff, fold, and big hand. I find that it reads much more easily and is prob even faster than writing the words out.

Only 13 hands on Villain so nothing to really go by. I was probably tired as I had been playing for a few hours at that point I think and it was past 1a, which is late for me. Still, I should be able to fold otf vs an unknown Villain in any state I play in. I got caught up in illogical thinking ott, talked myself into Villain having air. The thing is it's an UK, so all we have to go by is pop tendencies. Gen pop doesn't stack off oop w/air at anywhere near a high enough rate for us to call w/our TP2K on a paired board. I don't think it's correct to call w/T9s pre in Villains spot, but it's a mistake to transpose how I play onto how I think Villain is playing in the hand. The flop raise is enough information to warrant a fold. Clearly sometimes I'm the fish at the table.

^Started at 726 around November 1st, 2017. At ~1800 now. Up ~700 since start of the year--26k hands, a mix of 25NL and 50NL.

I'm happy with my results so far. But I just know I can do a lot better. Just cutting out spew plays my winrate will probably almost double. In order to do that I need to identify the spew situations that I've done and do. From there I need to inject logic to pull myself back from the spew precipice when I'm in a hand and about to fall off. I think the more I analyze hands like I've been doing itt, the more I post embarrassing spew plays, the less likely I will make the same mistakes in the future. The more develop the pattern of thinking that calling down in the above hand is so wrong against an unknown Villain--well, I think I can eventually get to the point that even if I'm tired I still fold. That's my goal anyway. (The 22<QQ was pretty bad too.)

Only 15 hands(53/40/20/67) on Villain so not enough to go by, but Villain did seem agro over 15 hands. I think it's a mistake to think this way, as Villain could have just been getting good hole cards and boards. I think it's correct to treat this Villain as an unknown until we have more hands on them. I think even if Villain has a fairly wide range here that fd's and oesd's would prob still call getting almost 3:1 and w/the likelihood of stacks getting in ott. W/o considering improving to the best hand if Villain calls instead of shoves, we need to take the pot down a little more than 50% of the time to break even. I think I like a fold otf here. We're oop vs a Villain that may be pretty agro(Here I go now saying Villain is not an unknown. The thing is that some Villains will have a agro percentage of maybe 20% pretty much no matter what bc they play trappy or whatever. This Villain was clearly not afraid to bet.)
