I think these hands help illustrate why my win rate is not higher. Hand 3, not sure why I didn't 4bet. As played it's a fold ott. Hand 2, not sure I should be raising 32o pre, but the big mistake is the river call. This Villain is not bluffing Hero off a split pot here. Hand 1, I didn't think Villain had much. QQ+, AK gii pre. AA maybe flats some of the time. 3 combos of JJ. I don't think 77 and 22 is in their range. TT, 99. Was trying to fold out hands w/some equity: AK, AQ. I used a lot of my time tho and then shoved. Prob woulda looked stronger if Hero bet like 1/3 pot and didn't need to think about it for a long time. Fold to a shove.

Good luck! Sometimes I think about switching from just live to live and online but online tilts me.

4 Bb/100 at 50 NL sounds really good. Is that zone or 6 max?

Hero is actually OTB. Ok, so I know it's a fold to the turn raise. At the time I was able to argue in my head that this could be a semi-bluff. Unlikely. I 3bet small pre inpos and w/AA, which I think is ok. Flop bet sizing? Just not sure how to approach this hand to get max value.

Hand 1 was a fun one. OTT I thought Hero had 8 clean outs. It didn't seem like this Villain played FD's this way. Sets and OP's. Seemed like Villain wanted to get his whole stack in so I thought Hero had enough implied odds. Does V still gii otr if a or comes tho? I think they do most of the time still, especially w/sets.

Hand 2 sucked. I think it's well played by Villain. The sizing OTT was perfect. Villain tight w/ low agg%, but as is so often the case, maybe only 20 hands (going by memory here). During the hand I at least started counting combos. I thought we beat KK-99 (30 combos). But I think this V usually raises QQ+ pre. Plus I think this V is mostly donk betting most OP's. I had trouble putting 87s and 65s in their range as they are OOP and this is a tight Villain. But I forgot to factor in that they are in the BB and it's just 1.00 to call a 2.25 pot. Also, I would prob fold 87s and 65s here, but it's a mistake to transpose my thinking onto how Villain thinks. I think next time fold OTT. Board pairs and they don't slow down. The turn bet really did not seem that big during the hand, but it set up the river shove so perfectly.

Gotta admit I spewed some more. The AA hand I don't consider spew bc I at least slowed down and thought thru it some. Maybe it should be considered spew. The spew I'm talking about is more mindless. I get tired past 1a and I played till 130a. Eventually, the 4 tables seems like too much and I make dumb bluff plays that aren't thought out at all. Did at least 2 of these for prob ~50bb total. I think next week I will prob set a goal to not play past 1a. I want to start putting together whole sessions in which I do not spew. I also want to start finding spots to fold these OP's that are beat.

Villain seemed tight and straightforward. If we give Villain a range of: [AA-TT, 99, 66, 22] Hero has 40.3% equity. Let's set up and equation where X = amount of dead $ in the pot needed for Hero to break even gii otf.

.403(33+X) - .597(33) = 0 --> X = .597(33)/.403 - 33

X = 15.89

Hero would need about 16 dollars already in the pot to just break even on this play so the 7 in the pot otf is not nearly enough. If Villain has A fd's in their range Hero's equity goes down some more.

Hand 1 I think is classic spew. I had only been at the table a few hands so I don't know what Villain will fold. Villain snap called otr. Hand 2 I gotta at least min-raise otf, but I think I like shoving best. Ott we're not getting the at least 3.4:1 explicit odds we need to call(should have 10 outs); pot would need to be 42 instead of 31 or 11 more tho not sure how river would play out. Only a few orbits at the table, but this Villain didn't seem crazy. What would they continue like this with? AA w/; AK; maybe KKx; QQ. Otr, I really felt like we were beat, but getting almost 4:1. Hand 3 is just a cooler.

Just played a 30min sesh. I did NOT spew at all. I consider it an "A" level session. I think I will start grading my sessions and keeping track of session length. I want to make sure I'm taking a hard look at how I play and grading my sessions will provide this. If I'm just clicking buttons in a mindless fog then that's "F" quality work and I want to write that down in my poker notebook. I think it will be interesting to look at the number of F sessions, A sessions, B sessions and so forth across the week. I haven't been writing down session length, but this is easy and will help give me a better idea of how the session went. It's harder to play A-game for 3+ hours than it is for 30 min. I'll probably jot down the start time and end time. It's definitely harder for me to play my A-game past 1a and especially so say on a Saturday night after work bc I'm tired. I know I play better in the day time, but the issue here is distractions.

Hand 1: Villain was tight and straightforward. OTR they don't have anything other than KQ for the nuts. I was so close to folding. So upset with myself. Burned 34bb's. Hope I fold next time.

Hand 2: 50 hands on Villain. 3rd 4bet from them is why I called. They ended up having AQ.

Played for about 3h after getting home from work. I give myself a "B" grade bc of the bad call in Hand 1. Otherwise I think I played pretty well. There's some spots that seem pretty close. I almost bluff caught w/K high in one hand w/low board that we donk bet OTF; X, X OTT; X, V bets pot, we fold they show JTs. In a spot like that I'm not good enough to enumerate all the combos in V's range to determine whether it's a good bluff catch or not. I would need to do some work off the table for this.

I want to get better at playing 3bet and 4bet pots. I 3bet more aggressively than I usually do I think. But early on in the sesh I had a frequent 3 bettor to my immediate left. In one hand I opened OTB and they 3bet in the SB. I wanted to 4bet so bad w/JTs. But then I started worrying that JTs is not a good 4bet hand. I really don't know. That's where my game is at. I thought I had Villain's range beat and position so why not 4bet. Here's the hand:

OTR they are probably not bluffing. A 9 makes sense given the action up to this point. Turning AT into a bluff? It doesn't seem like there's much that X-C OTT, and then bluff's river. Pocket pairs 88's and below see a showdown at 50NL I think. Only had a few hands on Villain at the time. Against the gen pop I think this is a fold OTR.

Week 4:

[X] Do 1 >= 3 mi run

[X] Bike to and from work 2 days or substitute 3 mi run(s)-->Actually biked all 5 days.

[X] Do 20-30 min core workouts 4 days

[X] Study 5 hours

[X] Play 3k hands

[] Arrive at work 10 min prior to start time--Missed one day by one minute.

Week 5 Goals:

[] Do 1 >= 3 mi run

[] Bike to and from work 2 days or substitute 3 mi run(s)

[] Do 20-30 min core workouts 4 days

[] Study 5 hours

[] Play 3k hands

[] Arrive at work 12 min prior to start time

So I didn't meet my "arrive at work 10 min prior" goal, but I was really close. Also I arrived earlier than normal bc of this goal and it felt really nice. I enjoyed not having to rush so much. I'm upping it to 12 min prior for week 5 despite not meeting the 10 min goal last week. I hope to meet this goal, but if I don't I think it will still keep me moving in that direction. 15 min prior as a habit I think is where I want to go w/this.

Otherwise my goals are the same as Week 4. I like the track I'm on w/poker and life despite my recent poker results. I think that I'm working on my game enough that results will come eventually. Stoked to be on track w/exercise goals and to have come so close w/my work goal. I will keep pushing to add more reps in the workouts this week.

Hand 1: I like betting 5 and folding to a raise OTR.

Hand 2: We had seen Villain shove all-in OTF w/gutshot--like 100bb's into a 20bb pot maybe 3 orbits prior to this hand. Thing is tho I think this V was actually playing pretty tight and careful after that hand that made them look like a maniac. It's a fold to the 3! OTR.

Hand 3: I think just shut it down after the flop bet. I'm sure I appeared pretty agro to this V and they don't have any draw hands. Even if I bet 3 sts, w/my image this V is prob calling w/44 often enough to make it just spew for me.

Hand 4: What I like about this hand is that my line makes sense. I also like that the board takes the nut FD out of V's range and makes it less likely they are on a FD. This was a pretty tight, bet-when-they-have-it player. So their range would be: AK, AQ, AJ, maybe AT that fears KJ OTT. AQ is going to raise OTF a lot tho, but I actually think this V, might not raise for fear of 99 and wanting to keep me in the hand w/less.

I gave myself an "F" for the sesh. I think the river calls in H1 and H2 are terrible. Made a couple other bad river calls for ~6bb's. H1 I was just clicking buttons OTR. I was tilted from H2, which took place maybe 20 min prior. I got woken up at 830a from a deep sleep. Normally I pretty automatically get up and make my daughter whatever she wants to eat. But I just laid there for a little while until she came back and demanded that I get up. Ugh. So my executive function was def not where I want it. So I was stewing over H2, had just made at least one other mistake on table 3, and then my daughter started saying "I'm hungry, Dad. Dad, I'm hungry ..." over and over just as the river card came in. She had had a pretty healthy breakfast so far so it was not an emergency. And we've been talking a bit about how I need a few minutes to shut my game down when she needs something or when we're going to do school or hang out. Telling her I need a few minutes is pretty new tho, so it needs some work before it's a habit for both of us.

I was so tilted by the end of the sesh, which I shut down right after H2. Made us both smoothies, which I had been wanting to start doing for a few weeks now. GF makes them smoothies. Not very hard, but I tend to put off doing some easy, but newish tasks sometimes. Then I hit my 3mi run. So pretty good turn around after steaming for a moment during/after QQ H2 hand.

Think I will give myself a grade for the week, calculated from the sesh grades. Prob set some sleep goals next week too. Bed by 2a, wake no earlier than 9a I think. I will still have to get up to get shows going and make food for my daughter. That's just the way it's going to be. I just know I don't do so well when I get up and stay up before 9a. If I had just went back to sleep for another 30 min I would have done so much better.

Hand 1: Gii good. Closer than I thought tho. Hero has 55% equity 3-way. 56% equity vs KThh. I remember I contemplated calling instead of raising as I wanted the shortstack to stay in. Gotta raise I think tho as so much is still at least calling here. I don't think the hand could have played out much better other than the heart coming otr.

H2: The river was interesting. I stopped and thought this hand out. The flush draw did NOT come in. The QJ straight draw did NOT come in. TT and 99 should be raising otf w/straight and flush draws out there. Thus, this raise did NOT make sense. Sure it could have been a weirdly played set. A5dd. I don't think this V is calling 44 or 22 pre and they are especially not calling post-flop. Think the hand is played pretty well. Have to shut it down otr if a comes tho.

H3: Had been 3! V a lot and being generally a bit agro. During the hand I tried to make my hand look FOS. I thought the sizing ott, and otr made it look like I was trying to steal the pot after X thru otf. Seems like spaz for V to raise otr. If I were bluffing they could just call. Maybe they thought they were getting me off an Ace. I would have folded an Ace otr here, but I also would not have played it that way ott. I think I would have X ott, then bet smallish otr, folding to raises. This was a tight, not very agro V. Prob the trappy type. I think when you feel like you are getting pushed around it is easy to make a big river spaz like this. I know I've done it plenty of times. Maybe the V to your left is outplaying you. Maybe they are just running hot. Either way the spaz just costs you oodles more bb's. Oodles yo.

H4: Vs SS. Had seen at least a couple of shoves pre or otf I think. Think it's a solid +ev call given the way this V seemed to be playing.

H5: I think this hand was well played to get value from lesser K's and maybe J's sometimes. Plan was to size river bet to continue to get value and fold to a raise.

H6: Pair, gutter, fd. If someone can convince me shoving here is NOT the best play please do.

H7: I think I did a good job w/sizing on each street and probably bet timing as well. If A7x is part of my range in this line it should look the same as AX I think. I think river could be priced diff tho I guess w/AX--priced for a call or raise. Anyway, I often mess up this type of play somehow and I think this one is done right.

Hand 1: Villain had been at the table for about 3 hands. During the hand I thought gii was correct w/fd's and combo draws in V's range. Actually I was also thinking this V might be a spew monkey. I've seen V's sit down and play really agro their 1st and maybe 2nd hand. But this was the 4th hand at this point and Villain looked regish so far. Anyway, I actually think this is a fold. We have about 33% equity vs a range of sets and flush and combo draws. I think this hand illustrates how much I have to learn. It's a pretty big error.

Hand 2: OTR I just could not see this Villain bluff raising all-in enough to call repping JT. Plus, the way the hand played out I think JT is in their range, especially JTcc. Maybe I should go bigger OTT? JT would almost be getting 4:1 OTT. Prob should def go bigger OTF. I think semi-bluffs w/FD's often go bigger. V got 6:1 to call the 2 dollars OTF! Will def look up this hand. Another learning experience.

Hand 3: Gii w/~56.5% equity. Gotta be happy w/that. Results just didn't go my way this time.

Hand 4: If there was spew this sesh, this was it. I wasn't really sure what I was doing, what I was repping, what V's range was. We both had been pretty agro and w/o a flop 3bet I thought they were weak so I bet again OTT. OTR I thought V might be trapping w/draws coming in. Also, my bet timing might have been off as I was thinking pretty hard. Also, w/ so much previous aggression from me and getting 3:1 if I shoved river I think V might think I was FOS enough to call w/A8 there.

Not going to comment on the other hands at the moment. Fun sesh. Gave myself "AB". Hand 4 I maybe should just X-back OTF. Will continue to think about that. I now know the QQ hand is a fold, but I did not at the time. My current "A" game has a lot of leaks in it. But if I don't know that they are mistakes at the time then I'm not going to downgrade my grade for it. But as I learn what's correct and what's not I need to be making these adjustments in my game or get docked for it. No other big spew other than the maybe-spew QJ hand. QJo seems so borderline to play against a 3bet anyway. Just chill out, don't have to fight for every pot. X OTF next time I think. Also, I gotta raise bigger OTF and OTT in Hand 2. This was my second good sesh in a row because I took the time to think thru almost all decisions. That's all we can really do. Push the other junk in our mind aside and think thru the hand. Quit being lazy and think about the hand. I like that I'm so focused on how I play and NOT concerned about results. Results will come eventually if I stay with working on my game.

Running below ev now. My ev bb/100 is now ~.6 above my win rate. Hand 3 above and Hand 1 from the previous post are part of this adjustment.

^Hand 2 above Villain had AQo 2-pair. As I was thinking about this hand during downtime at work I started putting AQ in Villain's range. My line was so strange I could see AQ being in their range. Is Villain correct in shoving tho? Guess I could have KQ or maybe just look them up w/ a K or A. Btw, if AQ is in their range it's a clear call. 9 combos AQ; 4 combos JTs.

Ugh. Just had a pretty bad sesh. Came home from work, was tired but pushed myself to play bc of my volume goal. Couple spew plays, one for 80bb's and one for 50bb's. The 80bb's one was a bad bluff. I'm sure I can find much better spots to pot the river. The 50bb's one was a bad call for 32bb's otr and a 16bb bluff ott. Both plays were against a tight, solid player.

Prob won't get my volume goal this week and prob will ditch the volume goal for next week at least. Been getting more into studying and the way I've been floundering around at 50NL over 25K hands points to the need to work on my game. Everything else is going pretty well--work, family, friends, exercise. Could get a little more sleep I think.

Hand 1: Line just looked FOS. If Villain had AK why are they Xing turn. I was poised to bluff catch OTR. Didn't expect V to go w/that sizing.

Hand 2: Timed out. I stopped to think the hand thru, which is the main thing I'm working on right now. Think I only had a partial time bank tho. Anyway, I think a shove is prob best. Villain's sizing seemed on the big side and I think strong draws reside there.

Hand 3: Timed out as well. Think it may have been one of those fail-to-hit-time-bank sitches, can't remember for sure. I think a call is actually pretty close. In the past I would have thought gii for sure, but I think we are a clear dog to what I think V would take this line w/: Strong draws, overpairs, sets.

The "timed outs" have been more frequent lately. I also had at least one misclick in this 3h sesh I did last night. It got me sucked further into a hand I should not have continued to be in. Had a misplay vs a tight, non-agro V. Bet into a trap. That pattern of mine needs to be corrected. Anyway, gave myself a B for the sesh bc I thought decisions thru and no major spew. As for the misclicks and timed outs I think I can correct these. I'm just so happy I'm thinking decisions thru and want to bring this to every session, every decision point.

This hand is from yesterday morning. It's been bugging me since. 67 hands on Villain, appeared solid. Just not much Villain would take this line w/. 99 came to my mind instantly w/the turn raise. I think pre I went bigger trying to get action from a fish at the table. I think the BB would adjust his/her calling range w/ the reduced pot odds. W/my hole cards and the board there's actually no A8 suited aces possible in V's range. The same goes for 98s. I don't think they are playing K8s and below. 87s maybe; I see that sometimes. But sizing pre and even if it's in their range there's only 1 combo left that's possible. That leaves: 3 combos of 99. Suppose they could have flatted AA, but are gonna raise that a lot too. 1 combo. I just don't know if I run into some other BS enough to call or raise the river bet. JTs semi-bluffing OTT and continuing OTR? I don't think I've ever seen that from this V.

Week 5 Goals:

[X] Do 1 >= 3 mi run

[X] Bike to and from work 2 days or substitute 3 mi run(s)

[X] Do 20-30 min core workouts 4 days

[X] Study 5 hours

[X] Play 3k hands

[] Arrive at work 12 min prior to start time

================================================== ==

Week 6 Goals:

[] Do 1 >= 4 mi run

[] Bike to and from work 2 days or substitute 3 mi run(s)

[] Do 20-30 min core workouts 4 days

[] Study 5 hours

[] Play only 3 or fewer tables at a time (except for when switching out tables)

[] Play every session at grade "B" or better

[] Arrive at work 12 min prior to start time

Hit all of my week 5 goals except for the "arrive at work 12 min prior" goal, which I missed one day by about 30 sec. I biked in and a strong headwind made the difference there. But I know that can make a big diff bc I've experienced that a lot. The path hugs a lake for prob ~2 mi of my ride and the wind often adds quite a bit of extra resistance. Still happy tho bc it was so close to meeting my goal and I would have beat my 10 min goal. Still want to work toward 15 min as a habit, but gonna leave it at 12 min this week.

IRT poker I crushed my volume goal, but I've been unhappy w/my play. I'm happy w/some of my play, but I tilt, I stop thinking and spew. The 20K+ hands at 25NL I think I mostly played 3 tables at a time. I don't think I'm good enough at poker to handle 4 tables successfully tho it is fun. Fun till I've just spewed some stacks. Playing 3 tables gives me more time to think, which is exactly what I need. A big hand in which we get stacks in just played out and I lost 100bb's. Did I just get coolered or was that supposed to be a fold. I start analyzing the hand in my head while I'm still playing. I'm not focusing as much on the other decisions I'm presented with bc this is taking up some of my mental space. Then I call a river shove from a V who rarely bets when the 3rd flush card comes otr. Crash and burn.

I knew I was beat in hand 1. This is the type of thing I want to fix in my game. Tight, non-agro villain. Gotta have a set ott. Hand 2 I think I should be able to find a fold to the 3bet otr. nother tight, non-agro v.

I already failed to achieve the play every sesh at grade B or better goal. Here's 2 new goals to replace that:

[] Look up every big fold to see what Villain had.

[] Spew for >= 40bb's in 10 or fewer hands the rest of the week.

May seem like I'm setting the bar high, but I have to start somewhere. The 1st goal should be achievable as I almost do this already. Having this goal tho I think will give me the mindset to fold knowing I'm beat and knowing I will look up.

Stoked I've had so much success almost meeting all of my goals ITT so far. Bummed that I've played so crappy across 27452 50NL hands: -.32 ev bb/100. My win rate at the 17678 25NL hands I played: 8.03 ev bb/100. I think I mostly did a better job of not spewing at 25NL. Sure it probably plays a little bit softer, but not much I think. Even then not spewing was still pretty hit or miss. It was def something I was working on. But playing only 3 tables and going for stretches in which I pushed hard to make big folds and look up later I had more success in this area at 25NL. Anyway, I like the 2 new goals and they should be achievable I think. Reset, start anew from this point.

Oh yeah, 1 more goal to go w/ the other 2:

[] Keep count of how many big folds I make and calculate how much I saved by making them.

I'm going to make some folds that I wouldn't have if I could see Villains cards, but in general they will be right and save me $. I think it will be fun and motivating to see how much I saved across the week.

These two hands didn't make sense during the hands. I didn't put 53 or T9 in either of Villains' ranges. Pretty much knew shoving was spew in hand 1; to X back otf and then raise turn seems pretty nutted. If they had the naked ace or op's they should be betting the flop. Once they bet ott they could have the nut flush or 53 I guess. Hand 2 I think I thought there's a lot of 2 pair they could have otr. Seemed like they should be X back so much of their range there. But what combos would bluff there?

Hand 1: I think we are up against 3 combos 22, 3 combos 66, 1 combo TT for 7 total combos that beat us. We split w/4 combos AT. We beat 1 combo or A2 and 2 combos of A6. Both Villains seemed really solid. The turn raiser was def capable of bluffing, but I don't think the min-raise 3-way is a bluff. What I don't like about how I played the hand is my thought process ott. I remember I had "Ok, we want to gii" in my head over and over like a mantra. The correct thought process would have been to count combos. We have 40.5% equity vs said range. If V has AA as well then 38.6%.

Hand 2: I think is a cooler. Hero has 49% equity vs a range of: [77+, 44, Axcc, KJcc-KTcc, QJcc-QTcc, JTcc, T9cc].

Hand 1: I like a fold pre. The turn bet might fold out 12 combos of AK, but once they call that I don't think they are ever folding. If we bet out OTF and then shoved OTT maybe that would look stronger, but I don't know if AA and KK would ever be folding enough. Fold pre we save a lot.

Hand 2: Just knew I was beat OTR.

Hand 3: FOS-line bluff. I don't like it and it doesn't work, is -ev. If I had KQ I would def be betting OTF and this villain knew it. We had been in several big hands in which they ended up folding OTT or OTR--hands in which we actually had the nuts or thereabouts. I had it in mind to start bluffing this Villain who obviously had a fold button. But after a while I think players start wondering if you actually have it so often and are more inclined to look you up. Throw in the FOS-line and easy call for them.

Hand 1 I will count as spewing for >= 40 bb's. The AT hand prob too. Hand 2 and Hand 3 do not fit in w/ said goal as they are not spewing >= 40 bb's, but I want to factor them into a tally of total spew in bb's for the week.

Hand 1: We had seen Villain 3bet shove otf w/86dd on a JhThTd board early on against another unknown Villain. Villain got a fold and showed the 86dd. Villain had been playing pretty agro and I think had about a agg% of about 60%. But they hadn't shoved since that hand and I had only been at the table a few hands when the 86dd hand took place so there could have been some table dynamics that warranted that play. Anyway, that hand was a set up for me to spew call 176bb's. Ugh. Def meets the spew hand >=40bb's criteria.

Hand 2: The thing about the turn raise is that I don't think Villain is folding enough after the turn call. They tank called. I think just shut it down after that and not hitting the . Spewed for 74bb's. Meets said criteria as well.

So 3 big spew hands so far this week. Growing pains I hope. It's def more fun to win. Considering only playing at night when family is sleeping. Distraction free. Been doing a pretty good job of talking out loud my thought process during hands. It sure seems to help in making sure I am thinking and not BSing. I know I can fall into lazy thinking, irrational thinking. Talking out loud sort of shines the light of awareness on my thought process. This sesh this morning in the 2 big spew hands I did an ok job of talking my thought process. I actually talked the 65hh hand out otr. Thought I'd get AQ to fold. I really don't know if the shove is profitable bc I haven't looked at HM2 to determine that, but I really don't think I have enough spots to look at like that anyway. But from my limited experience I think it's just shut it down bc like I said I think once they call ott they are rarely folding even if they called as lite as AQ. Hand 1 I think I pretty much snap called w/out talking out loud. I think my timebank was down to 9sec too which didn't help. One to remember for sure.

Villain pretty unknown, but appearing pretty tight and not very agro so far. During the hand I thought I'd get Villain off a PP. I will probably add this hand to my >=40 bb spew hands.
