Hey,

This thread is designed to share my journey through micro HU sngs on Bovada. I only play turbos, as I've tried so many other formats in the past, and I've failed/spun my wheels in everything but turbos. Currently I sit at a BR of $100 playing $5 and .25 HU turbos with a goal of turning my original deposit of $20 to $5,000! I don't have a timeframe in mind, but I know that I need a monetary goal to strive for or else this won't work for me.

A little about myself: I am a full-time teacher in sunny Phoenix, AZ with a part-time job on the weekends. I will strictly be grinding HU sngs on the side and volume may be an issue from time to time, but life balance is way too important to me, so that's okay!

I have PT3 and the Bovada hand converter so I will be posting graphs and updating semi-weekly.

Thanks everyone and good luck at the tables!

GL, Bovada grinder myself. Not sure if HU turbos will be super profitable without rakeback. Subbed. What grade/subject do you teach? What's your part time job?

Stuntman: what do you play on Bovada? Yes, the rakeback is a concern of mine. I've tinkered around in Zone and had some decent results; I find it plays really nitty, though, and I get bored. Maybe I'm wrong.

I teach middle school English, which I love, but I need to grind part-time in Scottsdale to pay the bills. Looking too lose the part-time job and have a small, steady income with poker.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Any thoughts on if Zone > HU Turbos? Thanks in advance.

I play normal cash games. NL 100. If you want the fishiest games IMO grind MTTs the fish to reg ratio is pretty high in mtts. My bro in law and sister are both educators. I visited Scottsdale 15 years ago for a chess tournament, very nice area. I like zone and dislike zone. It's hard to tell who's a fish and who's not a fish. Even big stacks in zone are fish but like I said it's pretty hard to tell, at least in normal games you can pick up on tendencies and some reads. However, zone volume is really good so if you're great at GTO play, it's probably the better thing for you hourly wise but be prepared for variance.

That's awesome that you have educators in your family; they're usually great people and a hell of a time away from school.

I agree with volume for zone being a perk. I've considered doing 2 tables of zone and 2 reg tables, but I agree that the anonymous format makes it tough to decipher a fish from a reg. I will say that from my experience that zone plays are extremely passive and transparent, so I might give it a try.

Yeah, Scottsdale is very nice and and can be pretty wild on the weekends. I'm glad I don't live there, though, haha.

Do you track your hands or use a HUD?

I use a hand converter to add the hands on holdem manager. I also use Holdem Indicator which is a session only HUD that works with Bovada. I also use a separate spreadsheet to reconcile to the database.

Buy-In Table Type Tourney Type Tournaments Total Buy-In Amount Won Net Won ROI
$50.00 STT (2 max) Turbo SNG No Limit 1 $52.50 $100.00 $47.50 90.48
$10.00 STT (2 max) Turbo SNG No Limit 21 $220.50 $260.00 $39.50 17.91
$5.00 STT (2 max) Turbo SNG No Limit 79 $414.75 $470.00 $55.25 13.32

Results so far only after about 100 games. The $50 game was supposed to be a $5, but I misregged, which sucked until I won it. Looking to achieve my 5k goal in the new year; gotta stay motivated and stick to my game...HU SNGS

GL all in 2015.

BR Update: $243.52

Didn't get as much volume as I would've liked over break, but still steadily moving in the right direction. No matter how soft the games are, HU SNGS are a ****in grind, haha. I will update ROI and such when I can get my games imported.

GL to all with the grind.

BR Update: $221

Not the best week stretch by any means. Lost focus a bit and played some HU Omaha.

The games are still good, but my discipline hasn't been. Need to focus on not calling 3 bets so wide and staying patient, but also aggressive in end game situations.

Gonna stay at the $10s until I reach $400.

GL at the tables.

You can get ~15% roi at those things if you don't have to battle, which I'm uessing you do not on bovada

Yeah, you definitely don't have to battle at the $10 level, so I'm not too concerned with a lack of rakeback. Hopefully I can maintain a >10% ROI over a decent sample.

$25 free on WPN is cool; however, Super Bowl in Glendale has really been messing with my swag...

Updated Bankroll:

Bovada - $199
WPN - $113

Go Bills.

I think an update is in order after several months. I dabbled around on WPN and Intertops for awhile with no real results and no HUSNG action. Right now, I have spun up $20 to $700ish on Bovada playing 25NL Zone and some reg tables. Want to keep this thread going to keep me sane/in the right state of mind. Real small sample Zone same size and I'm still working the kinks out, but I'm hoping I can achieve $10/HR over a large sample.

It's summer now for teachers and I quit my PT job, so there is some time to grind. Feel free to post any advice or thoughts, as I'm sure i'll need it along the way.

Thanks!

I highly doubt $10 an hour sustainable in $25 zone games considering it shows 8$ an hour is 16bb/100. Honestly will prob be difficult to keep a 8-10bb winrate IMO so be prepared for some swings

But gl with your grind

Gl sounds like it's going well. Pm me if you are looking for someone to study/talk poker with. I play almost exclusively Hu turbos on Bovada/WPN and some MTTs and spins.

GL man. I've found that the action is still really good for HUSNGs on WPN and obviously Bovada, too. GL with your grind. Will PM.

Thanks for your positivity! Honestly, my goal when I started out was to just beat the game, no matter what my winrate was. I am not a numbers cruncher by any means (I teach English), so I really don't have a mathematical brain.
If you say that winrate isn't achievable, that's fine, as long as my account and graph steadily rise, it doesn't matter to me.

GL to you as well!

Last couple of days have been pretty good! Two days ago hit a bit of rough patch with losing a couple of buyins...one large pot at 50NL Zone with AJdd to A4hh on a A 9d 4d board. Very happy to get it in there as a favorite .

Yesterday made a very good comeback, booking around a $250 win. Obviously running well, but very happy with my play in some spots. I'll try to post a few hands for discussion when the hands become available.

I find that the games play a little tighter in the AM, so I'm going to try to grind a little bit later. As I start teaching summer school, the afternoons won't be available anyhow, so I guess it works out.

GL to everyone grinding.

Didn't mean To sound like a hater. If you see my Other posts you will see I'm not a troll. I've played 125k hands at Bovada with 50k in $25 zone games and 70k in $25 reg games. Just trying to brace you for the inevitable correction in the winrate. I see guys come on here catch heaters then catch the corrections in win rates and disappear. The tough survive in this game and I'd rather see you succeed then fail. I was sincere when i said GL with your grind.

Thanks man. I know what you're saying, though. Obv 7k hands isn't really a sample at all. In fact, some of my reg 25NL tables haven't been download either (my mistake), so I can attribute some of bankroll boost to the regular tables that haven't been imported yet.

That's a lot of hands at 25NL lol. I'd love to chat a bit about opponents at this level. I'll send a PM.

Yeah plus another 65k hands at it on another site lol. Various reasons why I stayed so long (withdraws, failed $50 shots, ect). But I'm pretty sick of the limit at this point so ive banned myself from it .

I was playing it as soon as a couple weeks ago though so its still fresh in my mind so yeah I'll look at your pm.

I'll try to post an interesting hand from time to time, as I remember them in my data base. In this hand, I think the call pre is a tad loose, but being in the CO, I'll have position on the original raiser. The most interesting street is the river, where he check/shoves...thoughts?

PokerStars - $0.25 NL (6 max) ZOOM - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

BB: $54.08
UTG: $21.64
MP: $25.32
Hero (CO): $31.64
BTN: $10.41
SB: $26.10

SB posts SB $0.10, BB posts BB $0.25

Pre Flop: ($0.35) Hero has 5 6

UTG calls $0.25, MP raises to $1.10, Hero calls $1.10, fold, SB calls $1.00, fold, UTG calls $0.85

Flop: ($4.65, 4 players) K 9 6
SB checks, UTG checks, MP checks, Hero checks

Turn: ($4.65, 4 players) 6
SB bets $2.00, fold, fold, Hero raises to $6.00, SB calls $4.00

River: ($16.65, 2 players) Q
SB checks, Hero bets $8.00, SB raises to $19.00 and is all-in, Hero?

I did win a little sports bet, so the bankroll is a little inflated from that, but I'll take it!
