Hey guys, my name is Derek.

I have been playing poker for several years completely unsuccessfully. I have been pretty much the epitome of a player fully capable of winning, but one who simply does not due to various life leaks and lack of execution. I've always felt my ability and knowledge was very high level, but my ability to control my emotions, utilize proper bankroll management, avoid tilt, letting personal issues affect my play, etc. was keeping me back. I am the prime example of a winning player who is unable to win due to poor self control and self-destructive tendencies.

As a challenge to both myself, and to inspire anyone with similar issues to mine, I have decided to take up a challenge on Ignition poker where I will start with a $50 bankroll and begin playing the $1 HU SNGs, and will (hopefully) work my way up to the $200s as quickly as possible.

Years ago, I watched countless training videos, read every book on the market, and even got some coaching from some very good players. My issues were never a lack of knowledge, but again, a lack of execution. I began playing online, and moved to live after black friday. I've played everything from micro stakes to high stakes (up to $25/50), and have had some pretty epic runups, and just as epic rundowns. I am the person who can go from the best player at a table to the worst, depending on my mental state at the time. Sad but true.

My tentative plan is to play $1 HU SNGS with my initial $50 bankroll until I reach $100, then I will move up to $5's until I drop back down to $75. Once at the $5's, I will move to to $10s at $200, and back down to $5's at $150. This is aggressive, I know. I will try to keep a similar geometry to my bankroll plan as I move up every stake, but will likely get more conservative with my shots as I move higher and games become tougher/bankroll is more important. This is the most aggressive plan I can utilize, and if I make any adjustments it will be towards a more conservative route as I move up in stakes.

I will be posting my progress, interesting hands, etc. in this thread, and hopefully you guys can watch me progress from the lowest stakes on the site to the highest. My goal is to become the endboss of Ignition HU SNGS.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to support me and this challenge, and spend some of their valuable time posting in my thread.

Updates coming soon. :-)

Hey guys, first update.

So far have been doing well at the $1s and have now moved up to $5s. Bankroll currently at $125 and change.

The $1s were ridiculously easy...a lot of times they just want to flip it seems and not actually play, so they obv weren't too hard to crush. The $5s so far seem SIGNIFICANTLY tougher. Not that the $5 players are too good, but they at least try, and tbh seem much tougher than I anticipated. Having a much tougher time at the $5s to the point that my hourly might actually be higher multi-tabling the $1s, but since my goal is to move up, I will stay with the $5s as long as my bankroll plan allows until I have to either move back down or get to move up again.

I've decided to adjust my bankroll plan as follows:
Simply, I will play any stake as long as I have 20 buyins for that level. As soon as I drop below that I will immediately move back down. For example, I can play the $5+.25s as long as I have a minimum bankroll of $105. If I drop to anything less than that I move down. This allows me to shot take pretty early but will let me quickly move down and recoup if need be with a still significant roll at the lower levels (If lost lost the last buyin for the $5s, I would still have a $99.75 roll for the $1s, which would be 95 buyins which is more than enough at that level). Once I move up to $10s at $210, if I have to drop down again at $199.5, that would still leave me a 19 buyin roll for the $5s on top of the 95 buyin roll for the $1s if I'd still lose that. This seems like my best plan.

I may add in some $1s along with the $5s just to increase hourly as they are so soft, but I'm not good at playing more than 2 tables at a time right now as I tend to time out way more than I should, and also I've been having some problems with disconnecting, and in HUSNGS this is death when you're multitabling, so this might just not happen.

I've had some very fun hands where I got to make some ridiculous calls and bluffs vs very bad opponents, but I figured it wouldn't be too fun to see knowing just how bad these guys are (I'd equate it to bragging about beating up a kid in a wheelchair but I'll be sure to post some of my more fun or interesting hands soon as I'll be playing people who are at least TRYING to beat me.

Updates soon
