Borgata - $5,000 in 5 Days Mini-Challenge (3/23-3/27)

What better way to celebrate Pokerstars launch by playing live poker while all the regs are battling it out online? Arriving Wednesday night and staying until Sunday. Plan to put in 14 hours a day and hit 10 buy ins at 2/5. This will be a live TR to chronicle that achievement. I know it's an ambitious goal, but would be cool to make it!

$1015 profit session from last week, hoping to run good this month.

T - 3 Days

Went to the Pokerstars meetup this weekend. Met Jason Somerville and some really cool 2p2 people. Also got some cool swag, I wonder if I will look like a douche if I wear it in Borgata? On second thought probably will reserve these for grinding at home...

Crappy Chinatown bus. Making it to AC in one piece is already running good.

Sitting at 1/2 waiting for 2/5 to open up. First hand saw old man open muck winning hand AA vs QT on QT224 on showdown. Another player commented on it afterwards and the old man was a bit annoyed.

Interesting Hand

5 handed. Villain is new unknown internet looking guy who opens to 3x.

CO villain opens to $15
BB Hero calls AT

$650 Effective

Pot $32
Flop: J78

Hero Check, villain quickly checks behind

Turn K

Hero donks $40 into $32 ( Villain range is capped and mostly weak pairs. Hero tries to put max pressure). Villain quickly calls.

Pot: $111
River K

Great card. Villain has a ton of Kx that's never folding. Hero overbet again to $120. Villain reraises to $250.

Hero?

I don't see villain having sets on the flop after checking. Villains repping KJ (6 combos) and one 1 combo of quads (KK could check back flop) could raise lower flushes.

So repping pretty thin and getting a great price with nutflush I lean towards a call.

Borgata - $5,000 in 5 Days Mini-Challenge (3/23-3/27)

Thanks guys. KJ would have bet flop on this board. Villain was repping a turned 2pboat and possibly overplayed AK. He looked very competent, doubt he will spew. Didnt want to raise as I'm not really value raising vs his polarized range (I doubt he is bad enough to raise stack AK when I can have many boats, straights, and flushes)

I called and Villain turned over K7s which definitely made sense. He could've raised more given how little combos of boats he had.

Lawyer sits down to the left of me, proceeds to down 8 gin and tonics in the next 45 minutes. Somehow he's up a few hundred.

Was up 450 but got set mined in a squeezed pot, now back to even for the afternoon session.

Set over setted ultraLAG reg. sitting at +700. He's got position on me though, there's definitely going to be some sparks flying.

Spewy ultraLAG raising 10x every other hand. 3 barreled couple of no euity hands and dropped 200bb, but now back after getting paid with AA. Very juicy table.

Re: Borgata - $5,000 in 5 Days Mini-Challenge (3/23-3/27)

$1,275 effective

Hero Dealt AT

UTG+1 Limp, MP limp, ultraLAG iso $25, Hero calls on CO, BB call, limpers call, 5 way to flop

UltraLAG iso extremely wide here and has made it to $40 last two times with AA and QQ. $25 looks weak but I elect to flat to keep the fun players in and play positional vs LAG in a bloated pot.

$125 pot
Flop: 834

BB check, UTG +1 check, MP check, ultraLAG bets $60, Hero raise to $150, ultraLAG tanks and pushes two 30 chips tack reds for for a reaise of $500. Hero calls.

UltraLAG has multi way frequency of 100% and $60 is his default, but have seen him go 2/3 pot with premiums. He has raised 5/8i multiflops in the past 4 hours. When ultraLAG reraise, he is repping a very polarized range. Hero will flat 100% of range here but might be more +EV shoving to fold out better.

Pot $1125
Turn: 8

UltraLAG shoves for $747, Hero calls.

UltraLAG gives off sizing tells as hero has witnessed villain bet 1/4 pot in similar spot with full houses. 8 is a brick for both our range. Hero expects villain to Jam all bluffs. Villain has shown down before with offsuit K high no equity bluffs on similar low boards. Hero could still be behind of some AKbluffs but given his range it's still a pretty happy call.

UltraLAG does not look very happy

River 6

Re: Borgata - $5,000 in 5 Days Mini-Challenge (3/23-3/27)

I'm glad you're having a good time and running relatively good. Maybe $5000 is too ambitious a goal in 5 days? I know I would be thrilled winning $1500, as that would pay for my trip.

FWIW, you're probably not going to get there if you are calling/raising big bets with only one pair. If there is one rule I've learned about 1/2 NL, it's not to go broke/payoff with one pair. Especially with big bets on the turn and river.

Yea $5000 is definitely a high goal. My biggest leak in live poker is winners tilt, and I would literally leave early on most of my trips to lock in my winnings. Was hoping to use this goal you keep myself motivated. My main live game is 2/5, and Def agree with you that one pair (on the board!) Is a pretty bad hand.
