December 4th, 2009

I got a call in the morning from my friend Pinkus, inviting me to go up to LA for the night to go see the Lakers play the Miami Heat. I said "**** yeah." I had never been to a live NBA game before so I figured it would be and blast and I knew that when me and Pinkus get together its always a sh&#show because it seemed be both didn't like to do anything in public without being extremely intoxicated! When we hungout, we would both thrive on each others drunken stupidity and it was always a strong possibility that someone might end up in handcuffs or an ER, so I was kind of nervous but I knew that those nerves would be quickly drowned in vodka!

I made my way over to Pinkus' house around 3pm, where 3 other friends were also waiting to get this show on the road. So off we went to "beautiful LA." About 15 mins into the drive, Pinkus pulls out a bottle of Vodka and starts taking shots! I was thinking, "wow, that didn't take long" as Pinkus passes the bottle to me and our other friend who are all in the backrow of seats. By the time we get in LA, Pinkus, me and another friend are already pretty liquored up, which leads me to believe that its gonna be a loooong night!

We arrive in DTLA at a Staples Center parking lot, the lot attendant asks our friend who is driving for 20 bucks to park when she realizes she can't find her wallet! She starts freaking it out as she remembers she might of left it at the gas station in Long Beach when we filled up. As Pinkus rolls down the window to give the attendant 20 bucks, the attendant reaches for the roof of the SUV and grabs my friends wallet off the roof. HAHAHA I guess she left it on the roof of the car as she was filling gas and was lucky enough to have it stay on the roof for about 30 miles without falling off! RUNNING GOOD, I must say!

We final make it inside Staples Center to see the game. OBV we all go straight to the beer line and then we finally make it to our seats. Basketball is my least favorite sport so I don't remember much from the game other than Kobe making a buzzerbeating 3 pointer to beat Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat. By the time the game is over we are all pretty drunk from all the Vodka from earlier and ton of beer from inside the arena. We decided to walk over to some bar in LA Live and order a couple shots and go Ice Skating in some rink they have set up from X-Mas time.

I hadn't been Ice Skating since I was a young kid and we were all pretty buzzed so we were falling all over the ice! It was pretty fun though, I remember trying to get all fancy and taking out some middle aged lady in the process, but she was alright and took it like a champ! After about 10 more falls I had enough as my wrist was starting to hurt, so we all decided to leave the rink and go get a room somewhere since we were all way too drunk to drive back to SD.

We got a room somewhere downtown and eventually made it to a couple more bars. My friend Pinkus ended up getting kicked out of the last bar we were at for almost getting into a big fight. He was so drunk, he thought it would be a good idea to go up to some random girl at the bar and just plant a huge kiss on her lips. HAHAHA bad move Pinkus, as she makes a huge scene and eventually gets her Boyfriend and 3 of his friends to get into Pinkus' face which just makes it worse because Pinkus is so drunk he thinks he is Superman at this point. Luckily for Pinkus the bouncer comes by and breaks it all up and tells him to get lost. So we all have to leave the bar, so somehow I round up our friend other friends are we head back to our room.

Pinkus tries to stir up a rousing game of truth or dare back at our room with our 3 girlfriends in one last desperate attempt to get some action, it doesn't work and our friends leave Pinkus in the friend zone for the evening! We all end up passing out all over the hotel room and we are quickly awaken at 630 am by a friends alarm as she has to be back in SD for work at 10am. We all scramble like hungover drunk zombies to pack everything up and get back on the road, and somehow we all make it back in SD in one piece, not with a couple pitstops on the way home! (Pics will explain)

PS That night of drunken ice skating ended up giving me a fractured wrist and 3 weeks in a cast. Alcohol sure does a good job at covering up injuries!

Pinkus couldn't wait 20 mins

Courtside seats for the buzzbeater!

Hey Mr.CB

Interesting stories of life you have there, subbed!

I'm a live grinder as well from Korea and soon moving to San Diego with my wife hopefully in a month or so. I have plans of grinding in Palomar as I've heard it would be the best choice near downtown and occasionally in oceans as well. Would be nice if you can give out some advices about the city as well as we can talk some poker when I'm there!

Cheers,

Cheers to you too my man! Best of luck of getting to SD, you will love it if you can get over the growing traffic problem and the outrageous and continually growing cost of living. Aside from that SD is truly an amazing place to live. Don't hesitate to ask me any questions you may have, as I am always open to talk poker with fellow players. Best of luck, talk to you soon!

Was able to hobble down to the Wynn last night for a 4 hour session. My back has been acting up the past couple days making it hard to walk but I was too bored sitting at my house twiddling my thumbs so I decided to take my crippled ass down to make some money.

I had been playing like a monkey and had a pretty crazy image pretty early into the session. Showing bluffs and massively over betting with trash to put a couple "grinders" on tilt. That brings me to a pretty tricky spot I was put into with an Asian businessman in a heads up pot. He is a pretty solid player but I've noticed he loves to overvalue his hands and he really loves to defend is BB to a single raise.

Effective Stack: $850

Folds to Hero in CO, he makes it 25 with J9. Folds to Villain in BB who quickly calls.

Flop ($52):
A99
V checks and H checks. Since V loves to overplay his hands I check back hoping he will lead the turn with his Ax hands and H plans on bloating the pot with a raise on most every turn card.

Turn ($52):
Q
V leads for 25, H makes it 85 and V tanks and makes 205 total. H thinks for a second and calls. Since H image is completely crazy, and how V loves to overplay his hands, V range is Ax at this point and I expect him to slow down on any non diamond or Ace river.

River ($460)
T
Diamonds brick but V tanks and says all in. V has $640 and H has $620 behind.

I meet up with CB in Vegas for three hours bull****ting and I can confirm he is a stand-up guy for sure, you should hook up with him. He can point out a lot about SD as its pretty diverse down here and you really need to make an effort to learn the areas.

Judging from the fact that you mention villain seems to be a reasonably solid player, I think this is a fold. After the 3bet call by you on the turn, villain now should realize that you should have at least an A+ in most cases. You can also have a bunch of 9x combos from the cutoff if you have been sort of laggy preflop on the table. Your line on the turn looks pretty strong on villains end and very little chance he's shoving river with an A or even AQ on the river. He's checking most value hands on the river besides anything worse than 9-x imo. Some weaker 9-x combos he might even check. Even if he overvalues some of his weaker hands like you said, I just don't see how he is ever value betting worse than a 9 here ever. I think this is a fold.

Another thing to consider is what is his 3bet range pre?
Also is he the kind of player who would bet 3bet turn with air and pull bluff river shoves going with instinct?
If he's any sort of abc businessman player type, it's a clear fold.

Is this 2-5 or 5-10 btw?

2/5 NL. I think his 3 betting range for this particular hand is JJ+ and maybe even AK but seems unlikely he would wanna play a big hand with LAG hero OOP without a big pair.

If he's 3betting QQ and AA all day we can leave those out of his range. AK I think he should check river if he decided to flat it pre.
At the same time, as you mentioned he loves to defend bb to single raises so any A-9 K-9 Q-9 K-Jdd J-8dd 9-10 should easily all be in his range+that he's the type unlikely to play a big hand against a lag oop without a big pair=I'd lean towards folding. I just believe the type of player you mention he is he is unlikely to show up here with total air+ most hands he's value shoving here beats j-9 imo.

+A small 4bet on turn would be a nice bet to put in with plans of folding to a shove and re analyzing if he clicks it back or calls.

^ this is the exact logic and analysis I used when I made my decision on the river. Good stuff buddy!

I was shocked that he shoved the river, so I snap folded. His overbet shove is just screaming full house. After I mucked he shows:
Spoiler:
T9 for a rivered boat! What a f'n luckbox, I'm thankful for his horrible river bet! I even told him I folded a 9 to put him on tilt!

Hands like this are the reason I prefer having a TAG image rather than super LAG. Whenever I'm playing crazy I always level myself into thinking the villain is trying bluff the crazy guy at the table and it just waiting to rub my face it! It turns out people don't bluff as much as I want to believe, and these donkbags ALWAYS have the goods!

RF, hahaha it's always AK, always!

Just got back to Vegas last night, me and the GF were in SD for a couple days to take care of some business so I didn't have any time to play. My poker buddy "Donnie Donkbox" is coming into town tomorrow and is gonna be in town for a week so i'm guessing we will be putting in a lot of hours in the next week or so. I'll def keep you guys updated on fun sessions or just random weird **** that happens during that time, so stay tuned! Oh yea, I am going to do my best to start taking pics of my sessions (chip-porn, random drunks, horrible dealers, etc etc)

I'll leave you guys with a before and after chip-porn for the last session I wrote about at the Wynn.

Just came across some pics from my last trip to Vegas before I got all clean and sober and junk! It made me think of how much of a s%#tshow that trip was and how glad I am that my life isn't like that anymore. I might as well tell you guys the story of that trip, so enjoy!

"Some people just can't handle Vegas!" (Nov. 2010)

It was the weekend of 26th birthday, my two good friends and I were off to Vegas to celebrate my birthday by hopefully "meeting" a bunch of girls and getting completely wasted in the process! OMGGGGGG VEGASSSSSS!!!!

We arrived on Friday and immediately went to the grocery store to pick up booze for pre and post game purposes. We get to Ballys and check into our room that actually had a decent view of the Bellagio fountain! As soon as I unpack we go straight for the booze as we are waiting for my friend to arrive (high school friend who is a Vegas local and promised to show us a good time.) We are chasing the vodka with four lokos which ended up being a huge mistake! In the hour we were waiting for our friend to come over, I had drank so much that I don't remember much from this point, so I will tell you about the rest of the weekend based on what my friends told me.

Friday night:
-Friend meets us at our room for some drinks.
-We go to LAX and end up meeting the Pussycat Dolls.
-I chug about half of a bottle of Crown.
-Go to Surrender and I get denied entry because I can barely walk or talk in front of my friends promoter friend at the door.
-Go to Oracle and get kicked out for puking on the bar after taking two shots of 151.
-Win 80 bucks playing red and black in roulette.

Saturday:
-Wake up and walk over to the liquor store to drink away my epic hangover.
-Go to a nice birthday lunch with my friends.
-Go to Vanity, meet someone who gives me E. Sit at random peoples tables and guzzle their bottles "ITS MY BIRTHDAY, brah!" Meet some girls and take shots at bar, get kicked out for leaving bar area without paying for shots.

Sunday:
-Wake up and go to Sports Book for four loko and football.
-Go to Mr. Luckys for dinner and more football, end up meeting three huge black ladies that insist that I help them drink their two bottles of tequila.
-Finish tequila.
-Kiss one of the black ladies , puke into a trashcan outside the restaurant.
-Fall asleep on the drive home, wake up to a huge feeling of anxiety.

So much of the time during that weekend is unaccounted for, I wish I had remembered more! Sounds like it was quite a mess, haha oh well! Glad I don't do that **** anymore!
