Studying the game and finally become a winner at higher limits? Studying the game and finally become a winner at higher limits?

Hi guys!

A 27 year old guy here that before have been a solid winner at 20 and 25nl, but now haven't been playing for a few years basically at all.

I made a small deposit about a month ago on PokerStars, and to my suprice still got some of my old bankroll left on PartyPoker and also put in a small roll on Unibet. The reasons for this is that on Party and Unibet I have decent rakeback compared to Stars. But there are some ours of the day where there just aren't any traffic, so that's the reason I wanted Stars as well.

Also I bought the grinders manual and have read about half of it and got back into the thought process. My thought is that I am going to adapt concept by concept to my game and really try to get a sound understanding of it while at the tables. Have made some notes from the book and have them here sticked at my computer. Currently my notes is about closing action calls, calling with non made hands and also if we want a raising range here.

Altho, I have lost more than I've ever done before so far. Feels like I have some sort of rig against me, but hopefully that is not the case and I should in the long run be able to turn this ship around.

Here follows a couple of hands I've played recently:

This one I am fairly comfortable of having played absolutely correct.
Poker Stars, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

    Hero (BTN): $55.23 (220.9 bb)
    SB: $53.93 (215.7 bb)
    BB: $15.25 (61 bb)
    UTG: $51.36 (205.4 bb)
    MP: $5.39 (21.6 bb)
    CO: $27.10 (108.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with A A
UTG raises to $0.52, MP folds, CO raises to $2.50, Hero raises to $5.50, 3 folds, CO calls $3

    Flop: ($11.87) 9 9 7 (2 players)
CO checks, Hero bets $5.67, CO calls $5.67

    Turn: ($23.21) Q (2 players)
CO checks, Hero bets $16.90, CO calls $15.93 and is all-in

    River: ($55.07) 6 (2 players, 1 is all-in)

    Spoiler:
    Results: $55.07 pot ($2 rake)
    Final Board: 9 9 7 Q 6
    Hero showed A A and won $0.00 (-$27.10 net)
    CO showed 7 7 and won $53.07 ($25.97 net)

Here is a hand I think I might have misplayed. The call preflop is just because SB has somewhat fishy stats preflop.

Probably I should have called turn as well. Or raise flop since it is cheaper. This is an unknown opponent, only got 6 hands on him where he had called twice preflop.

Poker Stars, $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

      BTN: $19.84 (39.7 bb)
      SB: $36.66 (73.3 bb)
      BB: $54.15 (108.3 bb)
      UTG: $91.35 (182.7 bb)
      Hero (MP): $131.31 (262.6 bb)
      CO: $50.59 (101.2 bb)

Preflop: Hero is MP with A T
UTG folds, Hero raises to $1.50, 2 folds, SB calls $1.25, BB raises to $5, Hero calls $3.50, SB folds

      Flop: ($11.50) 2 9 7 (2 players)
BB bets $5.46, Hero calls $5.46

      Turn: ($22.42) 5 (2 players)
BB bets $10.65, Hero raises to $120.85 and is all-in, BB calls $33.04 and is all-in

      River: ($109.80) 3 (2 players, 2 are all-in)

      Spoiler:
      Results: $109.80 pot ($2.00 rake)
      Final Board: 2 9 7 5 3
      BB showed Q Q and won $107.80 ($53.65 net)
Hero showed A T and lost (-$54.15 net)

Funny short session before I head to my run. Played about 350 hands and made 2,5 buyins. This hand made my day, don't really know what villain is trying to do

So, now I am heading out for 60 minute distance run. Training for Barcelona half marathon right now. Hoping for sub 1h 24min, or just under 4 minutes per kilometer.

Now I am through the book about 60% and the writer suggested me to play and re-read the latest concepts he has gone through. Still feels basic, even though I have some new thoughts about how I should have done earlier in many spots.

Anyhow, I have played a session of 50nl at Party tonight. Went pretty well, about 5 buying went my way.

The biggest hand that went my way.

Not running good at all. PartyPoker is turning som sort of doomswitch on my account. Only got it in with a good pocketpair preflop twice today, had KK both times and was up against AA both times.

Think he is very capable of turning a AXs into a bluff here. Possibly a bad call but at the moment I just felt like **** and hated PartyPoker very much.

Please comment if you see any obvious leaks. I'd really appreciate it.

**** it, I don't know if I can turn this around. If this is not really bad variance I have no chance at standing this game. How the hell can I always have the second best hand.

Only down 4 or 5 buyins thanks to fold equity.

I appreciate it. That is actually a leak I plugged recently. I used to cbet way to wide in multiway pots. Cheers!

I have made myself a new challenge. I am going to climb down to 10nl and sort of restart my poker "carreer" for real. Instead of continue at 50nl, I need to win 20 buyins at 10nl, 16nl and 25nl each before I am going back to 50nl just to get back to basics.

Today I won about 4 buyins at 10nl in 300 hands. Good start to begin with a heater. No hard hand, just get it in with the nuts and take home the pots.

I have made some progress in the journey. Only played 1475 hands so far, but with very good results at 10nl.
