Poker Player or Police Detective..? Poker Player or Police Detective..?

Hi guys,

So to introduce myself I am Mozza and I am known as Morris2790 on Pokerstars.

Think bit of background is in order around the title of the blog.

Poker has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember and I started playing around 9 to 10 years ago.

My job at the time of playing was within the police however poker was always a passion and the dream was always to play professionally.

In 2017 I passed my exams within the police to become a Detective which had always been a long-term ambition of mine. Despite doing this for 2 years I still had that burning desire to invest all my time into poker.

Roll on a trip to Thailand, a persuasive conversation with Richard Sheils on a boat (who has his own blog here) and I found myself submitting an application for a career break from the police.

So January 2019 is where I like to think that my true poker journey started. At the time I was playing MTTS both live and online with relative success but I never liked the idea of playing tournaments for a sustainable income but knew I wasn't good enough for online cash.

So in Jan 2019, Rich started coaching me for online cash still whilst I was at work. I went from 25z to 100z pretty quickly. Following from that I actually went on my career break in April 2019 and headed to Thailand with Rich and couple of other friends.

I was grinding pretty much up until July 2019 and had some really good results (i'll post some graphs shortly)

Following a few weeks in Vegas playing mainly $5/10, I moved onto the LA Commerce grind for around 8-10 weeks which was really successful for me
as well as an eye opener into the true emotional roller-coaster that I had let myself in for. It was a rocky grind at times and I broke even for like 5 weeks and then won like $40k in the last 5 weeks which was sick.

Rest of the year was between Asia and then back in the UK for Christmas.

Then just after Christmas back to Thailand with Rich and another one of our poker friends, Jason for New Year in Bangkok.

Start of 2020 me and Rich headed to Aussie Millions for a couple weeks before we headed to Thailand for a 5-6 week health and poker grind before going off to play live poker again for 3 months.

Good news.. health grind is going great and I am down 23kg on my heaviest which was like late 2018 weight and under 100kg for the first time in a very very long time.

Bad news.. Covid-19 stopped pretty much all live poker.

So... online grind and time to focus on 200z -- around 70k hands from my 200z sample aren't showing as my HM2 decided to blow up so I decided to start a complete new DB from around one month ago now.

So graphs and stats ---

Pretty decent start to March/April but over the last 20-30k hands haven't played to great and ran pretty bad.

I have always liked the idea of starting a blog, I have always had a struggle with mental game and I feel posting my progress frequently will help me progress past those leaks.

I am hoping this blog can be fun, interactive, it'll have both poker related stories and life stories within too.

Currently based in Koh Samui in Thailand in pretty sick place which is mental because April 2019 I was sat in an office.. so to go from that to this...

... Feels pretty blessed

So yeah GL me and hopefully long term it'll be Poker Player rather than Detective

Some pad that dude, cracking view!

Pretty ideal scenario being able to take a career break and give yourself the flexibility of something to return to should you ever desire.

What would your plan have been if COVID hadn’t shut everything down when it did, continue travelling with the live grind?

I was planning on heading back to LA for like 2 months, then back home for a month and then back to Vegas/LA for 3 months for WSOP and LA after

Travelling in Asia is just a place I like a lot to chill. Get decent pads for reasonable value and it’s just super chill place

Will focus mainly on health and online grind whilst I’m here and keep you guys updated 🤞🏻

Pretty cool morning view here in Samui and has some incredible sunsets.

This is defo the pick of the sunset bunch yet..

So yesterday's post was more about background of my story so far.. There's so much more detail too, so if anyone wants to know about any little parts i've mentioned let me know.

Right now for goals --

Poker

So starting this from today (23rd April) I wanna aim for at least 100k hands a month. I am averaging around 3-5k a day at the moment depending on how I am feeling.

I have rakeback challenge too which is 30k redemption points for $2400 and think I should complete that within the next 7-10 days. Really depends how much I dip into 500z.

So yeah goal is 3-5k hands a day playing pretty much most days. I'll update graphs and progress as we go but I don't really wanna set an EV/bb target. Just play volume, play good and that will come.

100k hands in a month

Gym/Fitness/Diet

This definitely slacked off somewhat since going into lockdown. So hard not to want snacks and I loved it in Pattaya where I had routine of wake up, go to the gym, food and grind. Helped me stick to Omad Diet pretty hard as well.

I have still lost weight since coming to Samui though which is great but would love to get back towards a Omad Style diet. Also completely stopped any fizzy drinks and had done so for around 3/4 months so defo want to get back into that routine too.

Gym.. well we have one here in the Villa which is pretty cool so there is no excuse for me not to do a one hour walk/cycle in there. Either that or go for a swim.

Walk/Cycle 1hr a day
Or go for a Swim everyday

Also I post quite a bit of my lifestyle on my Instagram. I will try to get that into here as well but more than welcome to go check it out on my Insta stevemozzaaa

GL us.

So we nailed 5k hands three tabling 200z. Was a pretty fun day..

I like the idea of trying to break up like one hour stints with just going and chilling by the pool.

I did like a late morning session as I got up pretty late, then had a bite to eat. There's a place here which does like meal prep for you which is cool because it helps me not ordering take out all the time

After that, I did another 1.2k hands or so and then did 40 mins in the gym and a swim after.

Rich then dragged me for a game of Fifa before his stream and he actually managed to win a game for once. Sure he will never let me live it down.

Results

Spoiler:

I pretty happy with first day. Need to take a trip to EV store but up $700 but $1400 in EV so crushed today.

There was defo like $400ish I could of saved too with some aggro semi bluffs vs some weird sizes.

All in all, successful day! Gym and volume!

I am not really going to get into the habit of posting many hands but I don't mind posting some of the fun ones... but I just tried to do that in image format but it didn't work for some reason so I'll figure it out and post a couple.

Honeslty pad is insane. Can get lost in here and has everything you would kind of ever want in here. Sometimes easy to just get stuck into a room grinding though and not use things like the pool to just chill and recuperate.
