I've been playing poker recreationally for about a year now and grew my bankroll from $20 to about $400. However I usually play only 2-3 weeks and then reach a point where I completely tilt and wonder how this game is even beatable. Usually that's when my AA get cracked by a set, villain catches my bluff with 3rd pair and when I finally make a hand, everybody folds to the cbet - how are you supposed to make money... rough times at the micros.
With this PGC I'd like to become a more consistent player, document my progress, stop punting when on downswings and hopefully move up in stakes soon. Gonna post some fun hands on the way, feedback is appreciated
You get a very good price and only need to have the best hand about 28% of the time. His sizing is very small, which could possibly make it more likely he has some thin valuebet like TT compared to if he would have made it bigger.
You also benefit from having red aces here. His most obvious bluffing hands are missed flush draws, so you want him to be able to have the ace of spades. Thus these aces are an even better call than say AsAd since those aces would mean he can not have AsQs, AsJs, AsTs type hands for the bluff.
Thanks, I guess I played too nitty. But they always seem to have it in those spots My thoughts were: He doesn't have AK, QQ-AA, also any other AX combination is unlikely. If he has the As he'd have called with AQ or AJ but those hands would often fold the flop (unless he has As suited). There aren't many suited connectors in his range (don't really expect him to call 56 pre) and because I cbet the flop and X-C turn I don't expect him to bluff the river very often. So basically he has maybe a missed flush draw but almost no other value hands but sets. And is TT really a value bet, I mean I have quite a few sets in my range there as well?
Just lost another stack, interested to hear opinions on this hand. Is this just a punt? "Don't bluff at the micros" they say, but I can't help myself

55 is a solid spewing hand, starting with preflop which should be a fold. If you absolute wanna fire river (you shouldn't ), then $1.30 ish gets the job done
AK 3b pre
KK I'd prob just try to get it in on flop, as played river is a snapfold
Thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it! Sometimes I know what I should do in theory but just pile it in anyway, need to discipline myself there.
Started the day stacking off again.
Should we fold to the flop 3bet here? Feels like we're always behind.
Hi, gl!
Also, from what I seen, most hands are badly missplayed, I recommend getting a RIO subscription, it only costs 10$ a month, and there is much valuable content there.
Reviewed some hands this morning where I lost the most money this month. Sometimes it's kinda as if you got completely wasted, can't remember anything, but somebody recorded what stupid **** you did... That gave me a lot of confidence though, since my EV could be so much higher if I reduce my mistakes.
Just played another ~1000 hands but just can't get any heat going. Lost a stack with AKo vs KK.
Don't see the merit of cbetting the turn with QQ in the first hand Why would we do that? My 3bet range here is QQ+,AK. I'm always going to cbet the flop but won't fire again with AK OTT (from my experience a really bad idea in a 3bet pot at the micros). So if we have QQ here, we bet the flop, he calls, turn is J, and we bet: He'll either fold AK or he has us beat (assuming his range is JJ+,AK). So don't we want to give him the opportunity to bluff?
fold, fold, fold, BTN raises to $0.06, SB raises to $0.20, Hero raises to $0.52, fold, SB raises to $2.31 and is all-in, Hero calls $1.52 and is all-in
Spoiler:
Flop:($4.14, 2 players) 6 J Q
Turn:($4.14, 2 players) 6
River:($4.14, 2 players) 8 Players agreed to run it twice.
Is it mathematically correct to call the shove here? (As a default line, I know that whether it's EV plus or not heavily depends on his ranges / stats). Here are my thoughts, please point out any mistakes!
$EV for Fold = $0 (EV)
$EV for Call = EQW*Call(W) - EQL*Call(L)
EQW = our equity versus his range / EQL = his equity vs our range.
Assuming he shoves QQ+,AK we have about 39% equity. So EQW = 0.39 / EQL = 0.61.
Call(W) = sum of $ when we call and win = pot + effective stack = $1,52+$0,78 = $2,30.
Call(L) = we call and lose = our stack = $1,52.
Thus: 0.39*$2,30 - 0,61*$1,52 = -$0,05.
So a slightly losing play against a nit, probably very -EV if he only shoves KK+, but usually we'd have to call here, right?
It's tilting after playing 1 hour of BE, losing AI Pre w QQ vs AA, not getting paid with the few hands where I hit something and losing to some rivered trips, when villain called F + T with bottom pair. That's when it becomes tilting!
Probably a problem of mindset. 1000 hands played, very little profit with the few made hands and just blinding down or flopping nothing on the rest... so frustrating. And then I feel the need to create action myself, cause you can't just wait for the nuts every time right? That's usually when I begin to spew really hard and pull off some stupid bluffs which almost never work at these limits. This is actually my biggest problem overall by far and yes, it makes me question whether this is the right game for me.
Usually I try to stay patient, playing very nitty, folding a lot and trying to make money on my made hands (but how often do you hit the flop really). How do you deal with situations like this? Do I just need to be more patient? Do I need a different set of mind? Advice is appreciated!
