New to 2+2, 1st post!

Awesome read, took me 4 days (in between doing the minimal that was necessary at work) to read.

Subbed and hope to get current status updates soon.
GL tho sounds like you made your luck rather than relied on it.

Bungee jumped there, highly recommend. Interlaken is one of my favorite places, almost seems fake.

Enjoy Europe, sounds like an awesome trip.

Spent about a month in Europe. Excellent trip. Looped through London-Paris-Interlaken-Munich (Oktoberfest)-Amsterdam-Italian Alps-Dublin. Liked every city, particularly impressed by Amsterdam, had the most fun in Interlaken, Oktoberfest, and Hiking in the Alps. Oktoberfest is one hell of a party. Completed the bungee in Interlaken. Did not play any poker, Not worth the hassle/risk/cost to exchange enough currency to play reasonable stakes.

43 days in Vegas until attempting a late season ascent of Mt Katahdin in Maine 11/19, home through thanksgiving with some foxwoods sessions in between, then 25 days or so in Vegas until Christmas and closing out the year. Won't get in much volume once it starts snowing, my plan is to ski every week and play cards on the weekends.

Bought a WRX somewhat recently, the Passat is retired at long last. Looking to pick up a new bike soon, researching what I want to get - leaning towards a 1k cc sportbike because of adrenaline addiction, but I'd love a good cruiser also.

no degening or benders for some time.

goals for the next 43 days:
[0/300] HOURS POKER VOLUME
[0/20] WEIGHT LIFT 3 DAYS/WEEK MINIMUM
[0/43] 10MIN/DAY MEDITATION
[0/5] ROCK CLIMBING
[0/3] HIKING
[0/3] BOOKS

currently reading meditations by marcus aurelius.

Funny, I read "Letters from a Stoic" bc of your thread, ended up being one of my favorite reads...I've also read "Meditations", you'll enjoy it.

I also recommend the Philosophize This podcast on spotify, it isn't like awesome or too in depth but it's certainly thought provoking

Very impressive reading speed, especially for this material. I've just started meditations, but I particularly liked the section where he lists what he learned from his mentors, friends, and people he was acquainted with in general

awesome, I'm completely new to it but quite interested in learning. Maybe we can start a chat group once I settle back into a decent poker+workout routine and can devote more time towards the project.

Sounds like you had a blast on your trip, Oktober fest must have been sweet. How was bungy jumping, can you feel the gforce?

Cool itinerary to close out the year. Let's hike sometime.

Crush your goals, Aurelius is a beast. Meditations is a quick read, lots of great quotes. Another cool old school philosophy book is the Tao Te Ching. Also Philosophers Notes on youtube is a cool for cliff notes, with a lot of contemporary self development stuff.

Glad to see this thread active again. Any particular translation of Letters from a Stoic you recommend?

Also, thanks 11t for the podcast rec. Just downloaded Nietzsche pt. 1 and plan on listening to it later tonight.

If you go to Maine to hike you got to hit up Acadia National Park. They have some great "trails" which are actually non technical climbs. If you're not scared of heights they are great. Maybe you've already been there but if not google the Precipice and Beehive trails.

Also, one of you guys were talking about a website for craft bourbon. What was that site I am too lazy to look back.

Last edited by jonchillmatic; 10-11-2016 at 09:51 PM. Reason: search for good bourbon

bungee jumping was quite cool and definitely worth it. I view it as a one time thing because there is no skill aspect - whereas something like skiing you can do forever because there is skill progression. Started Tao Te Ching but never finished, it's on the list! I'll let you know about the next hiking/climbing excursion.

glad to help.

On pace for my poker volume (82.3/300) and weight lifting (7/20) goals, slacking completely on meditation, climbing, hiking, and reading. I need to work on time allocation, but I am happy that I am achieving my primary goals. Poker has been slow at the 5/T - T/20 levels in Las Vegas. Aria and Venetian games are non-existent these days, bellagio upstairs is typically 20/40+.

I'm spending most of my time playing deep and particularly focusing a lot on getting better as I feel I've hit a plateau in poker for quite a while. I've started to pick up quite a lot more on regulars that I previously thought were solid. I've also realized how much room I have to improve. Sick of not being rolled to play in the 25/50+ games, I've finally committed to putting in the work.

Impossible to say. These games are often straddled also so you really have to be prepared to play 50/1. Running most days at Bel lately

Thanks hombre. Drop me a message when you're in vegas.

Lost a bundle today, sitting at the bar with a beer considering my goals.

Yesterday around 3am a couple random guys were watching our 5/T/20 game holding a bunch of 1k chips. 25/50 went off with them, a huge spewer, a fish from our game, one of the best pros in vegas, and a few straightforward pros. I turned down the game with the excuses: I've already played 10 hours today, I want to weightlift in the morning, and I don't want to lose 5 figures tonight.

I will not make that mistake again.

There's a difference between excuses and reasons. Playing 10 hours and wanting to hit the gym are reasons, not wanting to lose 5 figures is an excuse.

Oct-Nov(Thanksgiving) Goals Update

Not so good. I went out a bunch this month, resulting in long nights of drinking and wrecking my sleep schedule. I spent an entire day sitting on the couch eating ice cream, drinking beer and watching narcos with a horrendous hangover. I've been oversleeping and waking up around 7pm most days.

Moving forward - I cancelled the 11/19 Katahdin hike in favor of a Thanksgiving weekend hike in the Whites in order to progress my goals. 300 hours poker volume before the holiday will be my priority, followed by weight lifting 8 times. I'm going to attempt to rock climb/hike collectively 5 times and finish at least one book.

Base strategy will be to wake up earlier, (11am-2pm) meditate as part of a structured morning routine, and either weight lift, run, climb, or hike pre-poker session. Read books post-session. My main leak is probably drinking (it's ramifications wrt hangovers and messing up my sleep schedule and routines) and I always get slaughtered Thanksgiving weekend so now seems like a good time to restrict it. I'll think more on this, but for now I'll cap it at 6 drinks/night.
