Hey guys!

I'm Edu13 and this is my first post/thread ever in 2p2. Although I've just registered here about 5 minutes ago, reading this forum (and PGC in particular) has been a daily habit since I started playing poker a few months ago. I was thinking about starting a personal journey/challenge and I could not think of a better way to share my experiences other than writing and posting them here. I think this thread won't be a conventional one as: I am just a beginner, I am playing a specific format of SNG, I will not use any tracking software and I play in a closed market. In any case, I hope you find it interesting to read and enjoy my journey.

My background
I'm 24 years old and I live in Portugal. Last year I graduated in one of the Europe's Top25 MSc in Management (Major in Corporate Finance) and until recently I had been working in a major investment bank. I ended up quitting as it wasn't as challenging and interesting as I thought it would be when I started, and decided to get a few months to rest and enjoy life, and maybe to try taking some shots to get into an investment fund (not many opportunities here for recent grads). I expect getting back to work in a couple of months, so this will be a shortlived but intense thread, I hope.

My poker background
As many of you here, I started with play money when I was in High School. It was just for fun and I had no real expectations to ever spend real money playing the game. A few months ago, PokerStars became the first platform to start operations here in Portugal, after the regulation was passed. With all the poker and bonuses advertisement, me and my cousin decided to give it a shot and use the 7€ offered to new accounts to try our luck. Luckily I was able to stretch it to around 60 euros just playing 1€ SNG 6-max. I had no expectation to grow a real bankroll and was just playing for fun, so I withdrew most of it and used it to go to a nice restaurant with gf. With the remaining I decided that I was going to start studying the game and that amount would be useful to experiment new ways of playing it. All in all, I was able to grow it once again to a reasonable amount and decided that I was going to withdraw most of it once again and leave just 10 euros to start a new challenge.

The challenge and thread goals
Portugal is a small country of 10m inhabitants, so the market is really really small when compared to other markets like France or Spain. Pokerstars peaks at around midnight everyday with about 35k-40k players, almost all of them playing microstakes. However, most of the formats are really soft and the general player is not acquainted with most of the basic concepts of poker theory.

My journey will consist on solely playing Hyper-Turbo Sit & Go's, 6-max, as in my short experience (a bit over 200 tournaments, not enough I know) playing them, I was able to get some consistent and significant results. I also think these SNGs are way softer than the regular ones and there is no real quality gap between each level. Also, one can really get good results if willing to put the volume. In any case, the main advantage is that I love action and all the mathematical aspects of the game, so I think this is going to be the perfect fit for me.

I will not aim to reach any specific value for my bankroll - I will start with the second lowest level (rake for the lowest is 16%, barbaric), 0.5 euro buy-in and move up everytime I reach 50 BIs for the following level. Both to make the challenge a bit more difficult and to help me mentally standing the inevitable downswings, I will withdraw half of my weekly profit every Friday and spend it on quality time with the gf (this first week, maybe I'll be able to take her to McDonald's ). The ultimate goal is to be profitable at the highest possible level (100 euros) and to be acknowledged by you readers as my country finest Hyper-Turbo player I don't really care about organizing it in the most efficient way in order to make as much money as possible, I'll find enough joy in the thrill of the challenge and in the wise use of the few bucks (if I don't go bust)

I will update this thread every 100 tournaments (probably each 2/3 days) and I will share with you my ups, my downs and all my doubts. As I am starting as a fundamentally unexperienced player, I hope I can use some of your knowledge and resources (and patience) to improve and create a great thread for the other unexperienced players yet to come and who may be looking to be inspired or to learn a bit more about the game

For what I've seen here, it will happen soon. I don't believe Stars would start operating in such a small market like the Portuguese not being sure that it is highly provisory.

Grazie Rondo
