Solid late session last night 2-2 nlh Orange Park again for +$409 in 4.5 hours. Finally catching up on the volume goal for June but still will fall well short I think. I have played 0 2-5 sessions this month so that goal is fked. The games looked good several times but my confidence has just been on the low side between recuperating the back injury and having only just started transitioning back to full time play. Also I’ve been experimenting with a lot of tweaks to my game this month that while should hypothetically be more useful at higher stakes, I’ve been hesitant to employ before field testing them extensively in the 2-2. Not really gonna push myself this month on that front either; if 2-5 nl looks good this weekend and I’m feeling it I may hop in. Either way I’ll be a little more progressive with stakes in July.

Got in a particularly difficult spot deep last night that I’ll post hand for when I get a chance later today.

Looking like I sold the crypto right at rebound top and the downtrend could continue through the weekend as anticipated. Will look to re-enter previous positions on sat/sun if things drop more.

Deep hand from last night.

KThh in cutoff w/$900+behind 2-2nlh. Utg straddles to $4 gets 2 calls and I make it $30. Most of the table is very tight passive but utg is a super loose action player with $1000 behind so I’m hoping to iso and play him in position, I think he would call up to $40-50 with nothing so I would of bigger but if one of the tight flatters in MP rr me (if they flat hoping action player would raise his straddle) I don’t want to have $50 out w/KT. Utg calls, one of the tight mp players w/$375 calls. Flop 794 all hearts. Utg player bets out $75, the MP player calls which is very odd I think he can have TT-QQ here possibly Ahx. I flat as I want Utg to keep blasting trash and I have position on both these players. I’m now thinking a raise is not a bad option at all. Turn is the 7c pairing board. Utg player bets...$10 yes $10...mp nit raises to $40...actions is odd I flat. River 6s and utg jams in his full stack and is called pretty quickly from mp wtf? This sucks bc mp is very nitty and doesn’t snap these spots if not close to nutted BUT I can still be ahead of action player so the side pot would be substantial. I decide not substantial enough if we can write off main pot to MP and ofc ‘can’ be losing to utg so fold. Utg shows 76 for running boat MP flopped the A high flush.

+$345 tonight 4 hrs 2-2. Nothing exciting missed all my draws no sets etc but got thin value, picked off bad bluffs, and got bluffs through which is always a nice way to accumulate. Juicey 5-10 nlh game fired up tonight full (8) handed but I haven’t even been back at the 2-5 this month so seemed like a stretch. Def not opposed to 2-5 this weekend I was just enjoying myself in the 2-2.

Bleh lost -$698 at the 2-2 nlh last night. Super spazz aggro golfer from out of town got it all in a few pretty deep spots. I’m going to post the spots in llsnl later this afternoon bc I would like to get some feedback but I’ll link that in here when I do. Probably means I take the day off get down to the beach and relax then get back in things tomorrow.

Squeezed in some more marginally profitable hours. I mistimed the crypto dip or would have gotten back in for nice profits but I thought the downtrend wouldn’t reverse until Monday. I’ll post update tomorrow with full months poker stats and goal completion/lackthereof as well as some info on where I am/what I do in fla now and a brief review of one of the rooms (Orange Park). June def was not the month I had hoped for but I’m optimistic that July will be a big improvement.

First up is my review of the stunning and pristine Best Bet Orange Park Kennel Club poker room

So the name is a little misleading since what used to be a big draw here, greyhound racing, is not defunct in N. Fla. This room actually opened while I was playing at the other sister greyhound track where I first started playing poker like 20 years ago and took much of the poker traffic. That other room has been closed down for a few years nows and about two months ago they demolished the whole building and track. I have heard talk that Orange Park may open a poker and sports/racebook only location then demolish this one since it is fairly ridiculous to keep running the space and utilities where half the place (dedicated to greyhound racing) is no longer used.

They closed the track down but the same people pretty much kept coming to bet on telecast horse and dog races anyways. The telecast betting area is downstairs and the poker room upstairs, we don't go downstairs but it seems pretty scuzzy.


If I had to liken the Orange Park room to a Vegas property it would be the Fiesta (was a station) out towards Henderson but on a much smaller scale. Its ugly, kinda grimey, its dated, its nearly entirely locals.


As for the games there are typically 2-3 2-2nlh w/$200 cap games, 1-2 2-5 nlh $500 cap games, and a 10-20 stud8 game that run on most weekdays. Weekends will have about twice as many games +a 5-10nlh and some tiny limit game usually run as well.

The weekday 2-2 nlh can play pretty ***** small due to a lot of the regfish buying in at $100 until later in the afternoon/night but its somewhat compensated for by their love of getting said shortstacks in really bad


There is a small tournament area of 5-6 tables where they run little dailys I'm not really sure what they've been running probably like $75-125, Ive never played them so also not sure of rake or structure.


Dealers are pretty mediocre, there are a few good ones and some pretty bad. A good number of them will miss actions like subtle checks, string bets, out of turn stuff as well as try to push the pot to hands like 2 pairs when another player has a flush so def have to keep on top of some of them if you want things to run smoothly.

The poker players here are a pretty ethically and age diverse collective of locals from across a broad socioeconomic spectrum. You have some financially well-off regulars that happily dump a few hundred a day for entertainment as well as a good number of regulars who coast in with the last hundred or so dollars to their names at the time and put it on the tables. Oh they also run these tables of house games like blackjack and 2 card poker or w/e it is, Ive never actually played them or paid enough attention to be sure.

The food is probably one of the weirdest parts because I will make a statement on it that seems both outrageous and counterintuitive...when it comes to the food here ONLY EAT the SUSHI. There is a sushi chef who runs the sushi bar and is in charge of the vendor contracts and making it so its actually decent. Any other food you order comes from the little back 'kitchen' and is basically frozen snack food (think like the little TGI Fridays frozen foods) popped into a microwave and reheated. I pretty much get the sushi every night I play and it is also cheap af. Spicy tuna roll and an eal roll w/avocado is about $12.


Drinks are cheap but you do have to pay for them which blows. Cocktail waitresses are better than one might expect. Message girl is there on weekend afternoons and nights only.

That's about it. Games are soft here but I certainly miss the Vegas rooms and look forward to my first trip back which may not be until Nov. I will post month figures later tonight and probably review one of the other rooms in a week or so. Let me know if photos do not show up in thread thx!

Thx! Was one of those stop by the court house and simplify taxes/documents scenarios. Been about 2 or 3...or 4 yrs now and did on her birthday so I'd hypothetically be more inclined to remember both.

OK so June was not the start we had hoped for. I would be pretty disappointed but as I am still recovering from a brutal back injury issue I'm pretty happy and satisfied with outcome. July should be significantly better despite a lot of non-poker obligations since my health and confidence are improving.

nope. Squeezed 63 hours 15 min which was way more than I expected with my back.

2)40 hours poker related study/review

yes. Easily over 50 hours.

3)10+ bb/hr (I hate these results goals but fk it)

nope. Was looking good but had a big losing session so we end up at 6.92 bb/hr.

4)50%+ 2-5 played.

NO. Played 0 2-5 nlh sessions which blows. Confidence was low this month and I constantly worried about back pain distracting me and potentially cutting sessions short.

5)Experiment with 3-tier dynamic open/3bet sizing (this is something I’ve been playing around with that is theoretically interesting but probably completely unnecessary in these games and too much of a complicated pain in the ass in actual practice but I’ll still play around with it some).

Yes. Employed this plan over every session of month modifying ranges along the way. It was a lot of fun and helped keep me focused in games. Pretty sure it was unnecessary at these stakes but I def don't think it hurt me so I will keep at it in July.

Good luck bouncing back in July. I'm a central Florida player looking to recover from some similarly disappointing June results.

Boom +$1685 last night 2-5nlh at the monument Best Bet Jax to get much needed momentum infusion up in here. Got a big portion of it in one hand where I raised button preflop 8Tss two calls flop gutter w/2 spades vs two V. Cbet flop BB check raise and both me and mp player call. Brick turn bb bets call call. River I hit str, bb open jams and mp tank calls I have second nuts and KT combos make little sense so called and good vs busted A high spade draw BB and rivered 2 pair of mp. Didn’t include specifics bc hand semi plays itself.

I love the beach where I’m at now but drive is killing me and I can’t even surf bc my back injury so we are going to move further up into Jax where I’m much closer to the monument room and I should be able to get my volume way up that way. Right now it takes me 45-50 min each way to go play, should be less than 18 min after move in August.

If 2-5 stays smooth for me over summer I will likely start back into plo heavier in sept-oct leading into Vegas trip. Just need to fatten up the bankroll and right now I’m in a position where every dollar I make playing can go directly towards that.

Ok goals for July time.

***July Poker Goals***

1) 100 hrs. Hopefully more but this is the bottom goal given last months low volume

2) 30% 2-5 sessions. Lowered this from last month since I missed so badly.

3) 40 hrs poker study/review/ranges/pio.

4) 3 plo sessions.

5) continue to use and modify/adapt variable sizing range of opens and threebets in hj-button position.

6) let’s go for 10bb/hr again. Fell short last month but this fat kickoff session should make this one a lot easier.

Non-poker goals are simple this month

1) continue to rehab back/spine

2) drop 5 pounds. Been trimming lately down bc I think it’s best for my injuries and overall health at my age. Main focus now is cardio and flexibility. Might play around with strength again someday when I’m happy with other fundamentals.

‘Upstuck’ last night was over $900 up 2-5 but lost a few bad rivers so got up +$170ish and popped on 2-2 a few more hours for +$69 more.

lost a lot of it in this hand: KThh in cutoff, HJ opens to $15 and I 3bet to $45 folds around he calls. We are over $1.2k effectively. Flop Tc8h6h. V checks and I bet $60 he calls. Turn is Td he checks and I bet $125 he calls. River J he leads out $450 and it’s a shitty spot. He can have all boats but AT and JJ also seem like strong possibilities. He is an aggressive player preflop opens pretty wide and frequently from later positions but he doesn’t usually get too out of line post flop so maybe I can just fold here. I call and he has the JTss for the rivered boat. I have to think about spot more he is a decent player so there has to be some % of bluffs but would be really weird for him to just overbet lead river for more than psb. I’m wondering if he can ever be going value with worse tens but that’s pretty much only 9T QT and not really any overpairs he can have for value except QQ given the action pre. I just felt like I shouldn’t have a high % of Tx in pre rr and he knows he should have more? Idk but felt like a really close spot, again can probably just exploitively fold vs someone who hasn’t shown a propensity to bluff these spots. Anyone like different sizing on flop or turn?

Random thought. Been super curious wtf lvl of poker I would still beat for any respectable bb rate online. I have access to a lot of sites now being in fla. Might start firing up some sessions online just to see and to increase my volume/competency while I’m at it. I would throw it out there that it would probably be about 20nl and mayeb 50plo but I could be a good deal off in either direction. Maybe I beat 100 maybe I don’t beat 10.

Turns out I left thousands on the table in last big crypto buy up-sell bc I expected it to return to a good low entry sooner and missed a big chunk of this last rebound. Guess I was in a hurry to lock up profit bc I had averaged down and got invested for a good deal more than I was particularly comfortable with.

No poker today. Weather kinda sucks from the edge of tropical storm. Putting in apartment applications which is a huge pain when my current income isn’t ‘verifiable’ by conventional standards. God they want you to fit in the machinery so badly and when you don’t you get sht on.

I need to figure out some better structure to my study/learning process. Mostly been just powering through Runitonce videos, playing around with range charts, and doing some very basic pio plug in hands but I need to formalize something to where I feel like I’m making tangible incremental gains in skill. Might involve having to grind out some high volume online but I dread getting back into the world of HUDs and hand collection apps and tracking software to the point that I’m avoiding that for the time being. I could see myself trying some sort of coaching arrangement online in future but I’m shying away from that kind of commitment right now especially since I don’t even enjoy online poker. I’m open to suggestions if anyone had any legit ideas on how I can improve my game. Thx

At a bit of a crossroads. Applied for an apartment dead middle between the two rooms I play in Jax...pretty much told them I can give them a pile of $ if they don’t like my verifiable income. Would be ideal if this goes through. If not I may head back to Orlando in a few months to stay with friends until I can get something else lined up. If that happens I’m gonna have to just grind epically long sessions of plo at the Orange City room 1-2-5 game. Not necessarily bad either way just will be very different routes. In the meantime back at it this weekend will see if we can get another nice chunk.
