Hey guys, after a long hiatus from poker I'm back. Currently playing 10nl on ACR and Ignition. Just logged my first 10k hands and damn, I have a lot to learn/re-learn. I'm not very happy with my play, but I made some serious adjustments around 5k hands and feel like I've improved quite a bit.
I'm a full-time student, graduate in August. Will be going for my masters in December so I do have a lot on my plate, but with some other sacrifices I feel like I still have ample time to improve in poker.
Here's my graph after 10kish hands. Sadly, I made more money in the first 1k hands then the last 9k .
My biggest leak is calling too much in HU pots. I'll go through villan's ranges and say its definitely a set and then I'll call anyways and villian has a set. Also, C-betting on boards I know I shouldn't. I'm improving, but sometimes during long sessions I'll go back to my old ways.
Goals
-Move up to 25nl before 100k hands.
-Study 10 hours weekly
That's really it for now.

This hand I know I should probably raise turn? But, as played that huge overbet on the river I wasn't sure whether to call. We bet A10,AJ, and some random Ax suited hands. I also figured maybe some busted FD's in his range. Winning Poker Network (Yatahay) - $0.10 NL - Holdem - 8 players Hand converted by PokerTracker 4
So, pretty disgusted with myself lol. Woke up early today and did some HW and studying for two exams I have before 4th of July and tried to get 1,000 hands in. Was running well. Then I made a terrible bluff where I try to overbet pot thinking this deep I'm only getting called by the nuts
fold, fold, fold, fold, MP+2 raises to 2 BB, CO calls 2 BB, BTN calls 2 BB, Hero raises to 11 BB, fold, MP+2 calls 9 BB, CO calls 9 BB, BTN calls 9 BB
Flop:(45 BB, 4 players) J 9 8 Hero checks, MP+2 checks, CO bets 10.7 BB, fold, Hero raises to 144 BB and is all-in, fold, CO calls 133.3 BB
Turn:(333 BB, 2 players) 3
River:(333 BB, 2 players) Q
Spoiler:
CO shows Q 8 (Two Pair, Queens and Eights)
(Pre 29%, Flop 72%, Turn 84%) Hero shows Q K (One Pair, Queens)
(Pre 71%, Flop 28%, Turn 16%) CO wins 316.4 BB
2.4 BB was deducted from the pot for the jackpot.
Still ended up 4 BI's for the session. I always do this right at the end of a session when I make a bad play. I know I'm getting off soon so instead of just chalking it up and getting off up 60 for the day. I leave up $40. Blah, gotta work on the metal game.
Funny thing is, I was laughing at this guy thinking damn what a dummy. Guess you shouldn't throw rocks when you live in a glass house
Ran like crap today. Made some really bad bluffs then accidentally misclicked an all in and got called like bottom pair. ugh down -5BI's. Planned on putting in some good volume today but think it's best to just call it.
What a day. Spewed some more BI's went on a little tilt. Took a break and got back to even for the day. Gotta play different on ACR since it's full of nits compared to igniton lol
Eliminating tilt or at least controlling it is the key to good results, everyone knows this already of course! Take a few seconds before making every decision no matter how trivial, helps me greatly.
Really disappointed for paying this guy off. I said it had to be a set, but I was like ok I'll call turn raise and fold depending on what he bets OTR. Ugh should have folded that turn raise dude was a nit and I pay him off...lesson learned, hopefully.
Close to 20k hands. My winrate is going to be abysmal. I'm running way under EV, 16 BI's but my bad play is 90% of the reason. I'll play solid for so long and then in the matter of 10 mins, spew it all. 3-4 hours of hard work down the drain.
Anyways, I met my study goals for the week re-reading some old books I had. Also went through the data base and identified some spots I could improve on. I've also been reading a lot of other people's PG&C's and re-read through some of the old COTW's.
Definitely need to stop spewing and 3 barreling. That's my biggest problem I know villian won't fold, but I do it anyway. I made a flowchart for betting and calling just a few questions and have it taped above my desk. I really think if I look at it it will help a lot.
On the bright side I'm going to see two of my best friends from the Army over the 4th of July. I'll also be going to Atlantic City, a place I haven't been yet.
Woke up early today to study and take a test. Got an A which is nice. Only have about 7 more exams and I'm done. Put in a lot of volume today. Not entirely pleased with my play. Ran pretty good which helped.
20k graph update. Hopefully I can keep that green line going up. It's rough going up and down, but I know I'm still learning and If I keep studying and working on my game it will. I feel like if I can eliminate a few of my critical mistakes a session I will see a drastic improvement
At about 36k hands now and barely breaking even. Ugh, taking a break from online poker to visit some Army buddies in South Jersey so going to hit up AC and play some live poker. Should be a great weekend.
So, vacation went well. Had fun and got to hit up AC and won around $900 playing cash there. Hoping I can play more live soon when I move out of the boonies.
As far as online play, I studied a lot lately and I found a lot of things I was doing wrong after a database review. I learned a lot of spots I can 3-bet and certain villians to exploit. I also stopped thinking I need to win every pot and found additional spots for thin value. Also turned down my bluffing frequency a ton and only bluff against villians I know are capable of folding.
School is also going really good and I'm excited to graduate next month.
Here's a hand I was curious about and was wondering what you guys would do on the river. No real reads on villian only played about 80 hands with him.
So, finally got out of that breakeven hole and feel like I'm playing pretty well. Still spewing a little and trying to get villans to fold too much when my sessions get long and I'm card dead. Started running above EV after running trash in all-in EV.
Here's a graph from ignition and ACR. I play very different styles on each site as you can see from the graphs.
ACR
Ignition
With Rakeback and Bonuses I'm almost at 1,000 total B/R. Speaking of bonuses clearing the ACR deposit bonuses is one of the biggest grinds. I was 10 tabling ACR, but my winrate was ****. So, I decided to drop the tables and not focus on clearing the bonus. So far I'm at 59/550. Hopefully start taking some shots at 25nl next month and really start working on my game. Won't be able to play a ton of volume this week though since I have two exams and a bachelor party this weekend.
Terrible session today lost 5 BI's ran KK into AA x2 lost all my flips. Flopped a set against huge agro donk was going to let him bet into me and somehow he has AA and hit his set on turn for 200bbs.
Good luck with your challenge! I have 2 tips for you that will hopefully improve your game a lot.
Tip #1 is to stop cold calling raises in position. This comes in 2 forms:
1) Some hands like 42s need to be folded preflop. I'd even fold a good suited connector like 98s in that spot. You don't actually make much money by calling raises with suited connectors.
2) Other hands like AQo need to be 3bet preflop. We want to take the betting initiative and force villain to fold away a bunch of his equity.
Tip #2 is to never pull airball bluffs. If you're going to bluff, then you want at least one of the following things:
1) Some equity when called, ideally to a nutted hand. Even just a gutshot to the nut straight could be okay to bluff with. Semibluffs are significantly better than airballs.
2) Blockers. This applies more on the river though. You could turn a hand like 77 into a bluff on a T9654 board because you block straights, or you could turn 98 into a bluff on a TT987 board because you block boats.

Yea, I've recently started to tighten up my 3-betting game. To be honest I wasn't too comfortable in 3bet pots because I would be too aggressive and barrel too much. I've been calling a lot less and turning down the bluffs. I've read your thread man. Definitely entertaining. Hope things are going well for you.
Today was my last day I could put in significant volume since I was off work, but with final exams around the corner I'll probably only get 1-2k hands in until they're done. Had a really good day though so that was nice.
Definitely made some big mistakes. I stacked off the very last hand over 150bb's when I knew I was beat, but it's late and I said F it and called him off like a donk. Some interesting hands from today.
Hand 1: Thought I could get him off some small PP's when he called river and saw the chips going my way I got a good chuckle.
Turn:(18.9 BB, 2 players) A BB checks, Hero bets 13.5 BB, BB raises to 27 BB, Hero calls 13.5 BB
River:(72.9 BB, 2 players) 4 BB bets 177.9 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 112.8 BB and is all-in
Spoiler:
Hero shows T Q (Flush, Ace High)
(Pre 19%, Flop 27%, Turn 77%) BB shows K K (Three of a Kind, Kings)
(Pre 81%, Flop 73%, Turn 23%) Hero wins 283.6 BB
2.4 BB was deducted from the pot for the jackpot.
Hand 3:So looking back I should probably fold to the 4 bet, but I thought V could be making a move due to how many callers there were and his 4 bet wasn't that big.
Turn:(104.5 BB, 4 players) 6
BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets 24.8 BB, fold, fold, UTG raises to 80.1 BB and is all-in, fold
Spoiler:
UTG wins 146.4 BB
2.4 BB was deducted from the pot for the jackpot.
After he checks two streets I thought maybe he had AK and some underpairs. When he shoves though I figured he was maybe slowplaying QQ-AA mabye AQ. How are you playing this?
