I'd like to start a new person challenge. I know that here are already a lot of blogs and challenges but the main reason for me to start just another one is to keep track of my progress and stay motivated.

I have been playing poker for the last 4 years, with the last 2 years being the most serious. For this goal, I am mainly 12 tabling 500-2000NL online, as well as 2000-10000NL live. I also play 100/200 and 200/400 LHE live if the game is good, as well as 2000-5000PL. I am $200k short of my goal, so I will keep track of all my sessions on here and update the totals daily (or the next day I play online/live).

Wednesday, August 3, 2016:

Played a 3-4 hour session online yesterday.

Good point. Since I'm 12 tabling online, it's hard to talk about or remember a lot of spots, so I'll save most of the discussion for live play (hopefully will get a session in this weekend). I'll try to incorporate other discussion as well.

If the game is good (which it usually is as it is straddled to 200 often and I would suspect there are under 10 players in the entire player pool who are properly rolled for the game, me not being one of them)

I realize this thread is boring and plan on updating it with other stuff soon!

So I thought about various ways to make this thread a little more entertaining. I guess I'll start off with how I got into poker and try to throw a paragraph or two together every few days, along with the win rate analysis.

Story 1:
When I turned 18, my good friend from high school and I decided to go to an Indian Casino in LA (Morongo!) 90 minutes away. I always knew about poker from watching it on TV and playing with friends over the years, but very very basic idea. Playing poker at Morongo was an interesting experience--my first live casino I have ever been to. Morongo wreaked of smoke and was filled with degenerates. I remember sitting down at a 1/3 NLH game and buying in for $100. I saw all these "regs" with $400 and thought they must be so good and crush at poker! I remember the regs mentioned that the BIG game ran on the weekends there (2/5 NLH, with a $200 minimum buy in and a maximum buy in of NO CAP!). These all sounded like huge games to me because hundreds/thousands to an 18 year old is a lot of money to gambling with.

I proceeded to play at Morongo like 1-2 times a month with my friend. We were both going to different colleges after the summer and were bored, so why not? I was pretty bad at poker in the beginning (didn't really know anything about position, hand strengths, ranges, anything). I had never studied it off the felt, besides talking to friends about hands that also played. I played infrequently and was for sure a losing player.
