$5k would be better. If you assume a 10 buy-in downswing to start off (which is quite possible), then your 3k is more like 1k and you are now just fighting the inevitable.
I would rather shot-take 2/5 then grind 1/2. Yes 1/2 is f'ing easy but your enemy is not the fish, it's the rake. Anyone that claims to crush 1/2 is just on a heater. A live heater can last for several years, as the variance in live poker moves like a snail just like your hands/hour.
