Being Challenged In Life Is Inevitable, Being Defeated Is Optional.

Have you ever heard about the "Brian Townsend" Bankroll Challenge?

Well, i have. And everybody i've talked about it so far told me the same:

It's not possible anymore!

Brian Townsend made his way from 50NL to 40kNL in one year, while using a slightly aggressive bankroll-management to move up trough the stakes as quick as possible. On his way up the ladder he had to move down in stakes multiple times again until he finally managed to grind out a limit for a couple buy-ins and take shots immediately after.

For some reason his system worked well for him and he never got punished too hard by variance. So in that case i think his win-rate was very good to sustain at a certain limit.

For some reason people nowadays say that it's not possible to complete a similar challenge because of the changes the pokerworld had to go trough the last decade. Players got to good and the winrates too small to not get hit by variance and go broke.

I think with enough self-dicipline to move down when required and a very good understanding of the strategies by the game itself, combined with a very good mindset, It is possible!

THE THREAD:

This thread is all about me trying to do something similar but doing it my way.
I will post results, giraffes and stuff, but whats most important is that i will post a lot about the lessons i've learnt on my way up and down the ladder, and what i do in my personal life to maintain a good mental shape to get the focus i need to succeed.

My background is by far too long to post everything about it in here right now, and not very interesting for you guys, since i know everybody just scrolls down to where the giraffes pop up in the screen

This is me:

Spoiler:

So, long story short.

- Play poker for 8 years now.
- Supernova multiple times before the rake-changes.
- Mostly played: PLO Cash Games from 2NL - 200NL and HU.
- Most remarkable MTT scores: 1-3th places in Big215 and 109Hyper.
- Interests beside poker: MountainRunning/ Climbing/ Beer.

THE CHALLENGE:

The last couple years i focused on PLO only. But for this challenge i will switch back to NLH because of the variance involved.
I do this all in my spare-time, so the volume will not be like prop-bet style or anything, but i have a healthy work ethic anyways.
The reason i do this is to challenge myself ( once more, cause i did the whole PLO from scratch thing last year, where i grindet a roll from 150 USD up to 10k USD over the year. ) and especially because i believe that with the right mindset, enough research and some self-control anybody could do a similar challenge these days.

My bankroll-management will look as follow:

Start Roll: 150 USD.

I move up in stakes as soon as i have 10 Buy-ins for the next stake.
I take 2 Buy-ins shot. So move back down if i fall under 8 Buy-ins.
I start at 10NL.
Once i reach 200NL i grind it out to 10K USD.

It is possible that if i fail multiple time in taking shots i will increase the amount of Buy-ins to 15 for UP, and 12 for DOWN.

Let's not just talk anymore and kick of this thing!

Better late then never!

Well, it took me quite a while to make my first post up here.
I was actually grinding it out really hard these days. And for some reason i was scared about the classic downswing wich immediately hit in right after someone post his results in this forum.

Just kidding. ( Hopefully! )

For real i was very active these days in terms of balancing out my life.
I worked quite a bunch and went to training every day.
Usually i run like 10 km every morning before i either work or hit the tables.

I have also played a couple of hands for this challenge.
Not as much as i would like too, cause i played the 530BB on Tuesday (outside the challenge) and some other 109 - 215 buy-in timbeys. For that reason i took 2 days off to go over some strategies for the 530 bounty-builder, since this was the first time i played a progressive bounty over 215 buy-in and some people told me that the difference between the 215 and the 530 is quite huge. Overall i finished in 22th place for some profit and i was very happy with my play.

The highlight was the 5th hand of the tournament. Villain played bet, bet and then made a huge overbet- riverjam all in, in wich after a lot of thinking made like zero sense to me on the board and i made a huge call with really not much in my hand. Villain showed his missed flush-draw, wich was exactly what i guessed and everybody was freaking out about the call and we had such a great time and a really funny evening.

On Wednesday i played some more hands for the challenge beside my casual MTT grind.
And today i took the afternoon off to play some more too.
Luckily for me i'm crushing the micro and small stakes as hard as i could and variance was really on my side so far.
In the beginning i struggled a little bit in some spots and had to make a couple of adjustments to my game cause i haven't played NLH cash-games for quite some time.
But once i fixed some leaks it went in the right direction.

In terms of time i have absolutely no hurry or any time-goal when to finish that project.
All i want is success in the very end.
The next step i will do is making a timetable on a weekly base. So i take some time over the weekend to prepare the next week, and i will post some stuff about my daily routine like training, work, and the some goals for the upcoming week, once i have found a good and balanced way to do so. Probably on Sunday evening.
That's it for now cause i am already late to register for the 109 BB.

I wish everybody a lot of +EV.

Btw. I know my blog is quite empty right now, and i will also include a timeframe on a daily base where i will take like half an hour every day to post some hands and other interesting topics from the next week on.

I'm currently 1 tabling the 109BB turbo on Party. I would love to play some more deep-stacked and reg-speed tourneys, but i only slept 4h last night due to the 33Main on Party as well, where i finished 16th place for a shabby break-even day. Therefore i feel like it would be very -EV to hop in some slow tournaments right now.
I just lost a 70bb pot blind vs. blind where villain called my opens-hove from the sb with AJ vs. his A7. Unfortunately his 7 hits the river and i do not receive his nice 125USD booty and also down to 33bb
But no big deal. I will continue the grind and hope to turn it around soon.

As long as the timbey stays alive i will play some more hands for the challenge @50NL .

Thank you! I wish you good luck as well
Broke even on the Bounty-builder...Busted KK vs QQ xD

But! I played some more hands for the challenge.
Had to grind my way trough the classic first downswing wich immediately hits men after men post a new challenge haha.
Anyways, i came back up to 50NL and a total profit of 500 USD overall so far.

Getting closer to fire my bullets at the NL100 streets!

Played a very quick 1h session today, and the player-pool was just amazing.
It was heart-breaking to leave, but i'm on for a date in 45min.
Maybe if i can dodge my way out somehow early, i will post one hand wich i'm really not sure if i played it well and hopefully grind some more hands.
It's kinda sad to leave when the game is this juicy. But hey. A man got to do what a man has to do haha

So let's go to the overall-giraffe:

"Only" 5 stacks on NL50 to go for my first bullets. So basically half way trough NL50.
Letse go.

Life lessons:

Guys. Today i learned a big lesson about myself.

In the beginning of this year i had one big goal.
Whenever i feel like my time is no worth doing what i do, i take a deep breath, and do something else wich feels right to me.
And today was one of those moments where i could prove myself. And do stand my man and following my own way. And it felt god damn good!

The story

So, today i had my third date with that girl wich is really hot.
And even if i would have loved to just chill, play some hands, and watch some podcasts, i drove all the way to her place to enjoy a nice dinner.
I pushed myself saying: It is worth my time. She's hot and lovely, and i feel like i want to know her better. So that's what i did.
After we had a nice dinner, i was happy to just chill on the couch and use the time we have to talk to each other about god and the world, and have a glass of wine. Because that's what i like doing when i say i'd like to have a chilled evening together.
But immediately after we sat down, she turned the tv on. I tried to start a conversation to her, but she was really into this one series. Therefore i had some time to re-think the situation, and remind myself what i said i would do this year: NOT WASTING MY TIME

So, the moment of truth had come, and i stood my man and told her that i leave, and drive all the way back to my office, to spent my time productive. I said that, it's not just the moment now. But the fact that i would never ever waste my time the way we do now, and therefore it could never make me happy to hang out this way more often.

She was totally cool with that, and it was good to speak out the truth and follow my heart, instead of doing some stuff i do not want to do.

Once i sat in my car, i had such a great feeling about my decision.
It felt so good to just be truth to myself.

So the lesson i wanna write down here is:

Stay truth to yourself. Do whatever you feel is right for you. And if you have a goal, or something other wich motivates you in life to work for, then keep doing it. Keep on dreaming and sacrifice if you feel like it's the right thing for you! Don't listen to what other people say. Listen to your heart! ( Like in the song )

Cheers!

Winning big, lol

Well, today i got kinda bored of grinding NL50 so i decided to play the 215 USD Deepstacked on Party beside the challenge, and a sattelite for another 215 tomorrow.

I won the sattelite and one tabled the 215Deep afterwards.
Unlucky for me, my 33 vs his KJ off couldn't hold for the win and i finished in 2. place...
It was such a rollercoaster ride. I once was ahead 5:1 3 handed, but then dropped to 3th. place after 4 flips in a row.

Then i went into the heads up 6:1 behind. After like 10 min we were even. Then the final hand happened and we were flipping for 2.6k...

Whatever. I'l take it. But as always after you finished 2th. you have a bad feeling about your mistakes you made till you wake up the next day.
This is my 13th. second place finish wich is kinda fked.

I wish everybody a great weekend, and i'm stoked to play tomorrow.
