Lmao awful portion sizes is definitely one of the worst things about South East Asia and I'm not even bulking.

Any plans to explore beyond Pattaya?

Gl HF Maele, I liked your wast thread. Very nice that you starting to post again in PGC
How are the ladies and how they are treating you in Thailand?

Gonna follow your thread aswell.
About the book, isn't it like most of these books could be compressed into few essential paragraphs instead of xxx pages?
I'll send you a PM about Asian sites, would appreciate if you could reply whenever you have some spare time

Actually land I had not really considered. I know the laws here in Thailand prohibit foreigners from purchasing land - I'm sure there's probably some sort of spooky lawyer work around, but there definitely is a law against it. Buying land in Australia could also be an option.

You're absolutely right though, we're rapidly running out of space to house our growing population so land can't really ever be a -EV investment if you're not ******ed. Idk maybe, I feel like it's just such a long term hodl that it doesn't seem appealing while I'm still pretty young.

Thanks for the input tho, any more investment gems bring em on!

Hah yeah, it's the nut worst: like 1 meal is way too small but 2 is like too expensive/sometimes still too small/mostly too big?

No real plans to explore/travel. I'm not huge on travelling tbh. I'll probably hit up Cambodia for my visa run in a couple months though. Then maybe Manila.

Cheers m8, glad you enjoyed the wast PGC. The ladies have been treating me very well. Almost too well. I have accidentally over-reached on that front in the first week I was here. By that I mean I have 3 Thai girlfriends already (according to them) and I've been slowly trying to get rid of each of them. Tell ya what, Tinder out here is absolute madness!

Hey mate, yeah I've just seen that you've PM'd me. I've self-banned myself from PMs, Skype, Line, Facebook etc until my day off on Monday. So I'll definitely hit you up then.

Daily Update - Tues 25/09

So here's a little snap of one of the islands from a couple weeks back. Went with this bird who won't leave me alone. Pretty ****e weather...

Spoiler:

Speaking of monks... Today I tried a new restaurant near me. As I sat down I noticed a group of 6-7 monks sitting there eating watermelon/whatever else they had. Orange robes and everything. Was iconic. Anyways, I order my 1x chicken fried rice and 1x pad thai, as ya do, and just as it's arriving at my table, these monks start a fekking chant. All of the kitchen staff come out and start praying/genuflecting to these monks.

All of a sudden, people on the street are stopping and praying in the general direction of this group of monks. There was probably 10 or so people stopped on the road praying to these monks, while I'm sittting there wondering whether to start eating or not. The chanting goes on for about 5 minutes and so I decide to just start eating. Feel like I was massively disrespecting their culture but at the same time, they weren't showing any signs of slowing up and I had to get to the gym! Here's a snap of me brekky.

Spoiler:

Anyway, after a few mouthfuls, they stop chanting and just get up and leave. They literally just pile into a Mercedes people mover and drive off. :')

Here's a nice snap of me kickin it on the ol private beach last week during sunset.

Spoiler:

Let's see what else I have in here... Oh this is literally the view from my toilet... Number 2 with a view I say.

Spoiler:

Cool little restaurant downstairs near the pools...

Spoiler:

Another weird thing happened this evening during my session... I hear a knock on the door, I go see who it is, and there's this mid 60s Russian guy and his 3 year old lookin granddaughter. He's saying something to me, all in Russian and I have no idea what he wants... He's very passionately telling me something but is not doing a good job at giving me any clues. Then he started saying something that sounded a lot like "poker site" and he was pointing toward my PC screens. But obv I minimized them before opening the door... I still have no idea what he wanted and eventually I just closed the door on him...

================================================

Anyway, let's talk a bit about poker. Today was unbelievably terrible yet again. I lost about $1k but was delightfully surprised when I checked numbers as I estimated it would be closer to the $2.4k range. I played roughly 4 tables of 5/10/20 for 7 hours today and it was again such a painful painful day.

I really hate complaining about variance but TBH I'm really struggling adjusting to these games as it is let alone running waaaay under EV. Couple highlight hands...

Hand 1

Couple limps, I iso like 8x from SB w/ JJ, BB SNAP cold calls, one of the limpers call.
Flop: QQThh
I cbet 1/3, BB snap raises, limper folds, I call.
Turn: J
I x he jam, we snap obviously...

He has QJo and we're dead. Okay fine whatever cooler but like what tilts me is that I 8x iso and he SNAP cold calls with QJo pre like that.

Hand 2

Guy opens EP, I 3bet KK IP, he calls.

Flop JTTr
Guy donk shoves for like 2x pot, I snap obv, he has KJo, Turn J, gtfo.

================================================

Okay but ignoring silly hands like that, I'm finding it difficult adjusting. I've been getting run over all day. If I had a red line, it would look like cancer. I think it's because it feels as though I'm missing flops like 5x more often than I'm supposed to. Also the fact that there's A LOT of button clicking going on today... What I notice a lot is people 3bet shoving for 100+bb with junk tons. But also stuff like backshoving vs a squeeze with 150bb with hands like 66. Ofc every time I have AK and brick - **** like this is happening a ton and yeah he has ~50% equity but the backshove at this stack depth vs my range is sooooo awful.

Another thing I've noticed is that people don't fold to cbet on these sites. Like at all. I feel like ALL of my cbet bluffs are getting floated/peeled at a ridiculous frequency. On other sites, you can cbet and expect folds maybe 30-40% of the time but on these sites it's like 20% and it's a really big thing that I need to wrap my head around ASAP. The problem is that when I don't cbet, they're probing turn 100% or betting vs missed cbet 100%. So it's like, do we just double and triple barrel more? I made 2 really standard 3barrel bluffs today and got snapped by bottom pair in both spots. So maybe that doesn't work. IDK what the right adjustment is. I think hitting flops will help, whenever that starts happening. These Chinese are very tricky and make life difficult. Twice today I've double barreled in a 3bet pot and got raised, when I 3bet jammed, they fold for like 25% of their remaining stack. This tells me people are floating wide and looking to steal pots relentlessly. I've seen people floating QJs on 467tt in 3bet pot OOP today as well and then looking to steal on the river (Obv I snap his **** off with a 4 innit).

Not having a HUD makes life difficult as well. Getting 3bet/squeezed/4bet LOOOOADS today as well. Not knowing whether I'm up against a nit or someone monkeying around is a pretty gross feeling when you're missing every flop all day too.

Anyway, enough sooking. I'm going to think tonight about what key strategy adjustments I can make to avoid getting run over again tomorrow. I have leg day tomorrow AND 8.75 hours of volume, so it's going to be a tiring day for sure. Always a bit nervous the day before high volume deadlift day but really enjoying being back in the gym.

To the guys who are hitting me up on PM/Skype/Email, I appreciate you all. Not sure if I mentioned it or not, but I've self-banned from Skype/Email/Messenger/etc until my day off to promote better productivity and a deeper work environment. I will reply to you all on Monday or feel free to hit me up ITT (as I have 30 mins or so each night to this).

Just really nit it up and print surely? And forget everything about gto ofc?

Pretty sure nitting it up against a loose population was the first piece of advice you ever gave me

I don't play cash anymore (just sngs) but I don't cbet (w/o a made hand) in low blind play for this very reason. On the turn I either fold easily to bets or delayed cbet works well when the opportunity arises...if I am cbetting I'm betting on the large size.

If you've got over-used to balancing and/or using smaller cbets, now might be the time to revisit your xplo strat.

Just spit-balling because you are way better at this cash stuff than me.

Nice to follow a poker blog grounded in reality for a change.

That sounds exactly like zone. Its tilting and tricky. Cut down big bluffs a lot in general, and double barrelling is very plus ev, especially 3bet pots where they are lol out of line with their floating. Also trapping and inducing is very profitable especially OOP. They go nuts when they sense weakness and pile it in. Your dealing with button clicking idiots trying to play like tom dwan.

Yeah, I would be very careful regarding this situation in Thailand. Wouldn't talk much about whole poker thing with anybody who isn't friend/poker player

Yeah man you're exactly right. I actually scribbled down 2 pages of notes/tips for myself while having dinner tonight. Just what adjustments I think make sense etc. After today's session, I think I'm definitely getting the hang of it.

Bang on mate. It's exactly like watching Ivey and Dwan back in the day mucking around with any two and just running sick bluffs etc. Have seen some more crazy **** today as well.

Definitely don't actually think he was saying poker site, but something in Russian that sounded exactly like it. :')

While poker is technically illegal here, apparently authorities don't actually care enough to do anything about it. They say it's "just a farang thing" which is true.

Although you're right, I'm certainly not trying to advertise the fact I'm playing over here.

Daily Update - Wed 26/09

Today I ended up playing a little over 9 hours and profited $2,617.80. Officially back in the green! Today was really a breath of fresh air. Still ran a few buyins under EV but wasn't getting coolered/run over all day like earlier in the week.

Lay on the beach for 40 minutes, got a nice sunburnt back now. Then managed to smash legs out at the gym before grinding for 9 hours. No headache either and feel excellent overall.

As I mentioned earlier, I scribbled down a few pages of adjustment stuff and mulled over it while eating dinner. I think I managed to find a pretty nice groove and my preflop game has been cleaned up a lot more.

I also am very used to each of the site interfaces now. I was 6 tabling all day and was very comfortable. I'll slowly add a 7th and then 8th table eventually. But it's incredible how last few days I was really struggling with the software and today it's like second nature. I think after you play a site long enough, it just clicks. When I first started on Pokermaster I got eye cancer from the interface, but shortly after i was 8 tabling with ease.

One note I did make was "what to do vs insane high 4bet freq of pop" - this is one of the main differences between Pokermaster and these sites: people are hyper aggressive pre with lots of button clicking. For a period today I 3bet about 3-4 hands and was 4bet/shoved on every time. Felt horrible.

I have some hands!!! Let's look at some interesting ones and I'd love some feedback on these.

Hand 1

We open JTdd from EP, straddle calls.
Flop 775ddh
x, cbet 1/2, call
Turn 3o
x, cbet 2/3, call
River Ao
x, we 2/3, villain snapcalls with 44.

Notes: Kind of tilting but obv think the river is good bluff. I imagine we make lots of money here overall when he's snapping that wide.

Hand 2

MP opens, I 3b BTN KQo, call
Flop Q79ss
V donks for pot, we call
Turn Ao
V donks ~pot allin, we???

Notes: I end up folding but can definitely see this being low flush draws and some occasional spazz out.

Hand 3 - Definitely want feedback!!!

V is aggressive.

I open AQo BB, straddle calls.
Flop A79dd
I bet 2/3, call
Turn 5o
I bet 2/3, call
River 8ddd
I check, villain jams for ~60% of the pot, hero???

Hand 4

I check T8s in straddle, 3 to flop.
Flop 427r
x through
Turn 9
I donk pot, IP calls
River J
I bet pot again, IP snapcalls with A7o...

Note: I included this one to remind myself to be extremely careful bluffing rivers in future... these guys love to hero call.

Hand 5

Hero opens 88 OTB, 2 blinds call
Flop T73tt
xx, I bet 1/2 pot, SB calls
Turn 6o
xx
River Qo
V leads 60% pot, hero ???

Hand 6

200bb deep
MP opens, I 3b AKo on BTN, MP 4bets big, I call
Flop T88ss
v cbets 1/3, we call
Turn Asss
v jams pot we call

V has QJo... No fear these guys preflop.

Hand 7

We open 99 UTG, straddle calls
Flop T76ccs
We cbet, he calls
Turn Jo
V leads 2/3, we call
River Qo
V 2/3, hero ???

Will let you guys know results of those ones after I get some feedback.

Anyway, it's almost 3am here, I'm tired as fk after a long and successful hump day. Off to bed for me.

h1 going big doesn't really make sense on river, 1/2 pot seems more reasonable

h2 gross, guess just fold when he can have Ax spades

h3 ez fold AQ no diamond, sigh fold AQ with a diamond

h5 1/3 flop, ez fold or raise if nit

h6 must be nice

h7 fold

Went for a stroll through Walking Street after ending my session tonight. What a day it has been! The first NINE games I played on, I lost money. I thought I was about to dust off 20 buyins today easily. I remember saying to myself after my first of 4 sessions today, if I somehow rostucko this day, it is a ***** miracle.

Finished up winning $579.69 for the day. Absolutely elated after I checked the numbers. I actually had to do a separate calculation to make sure I entered the numbers correctly because I was so surprised.

Regardless of the result, today was one of the worst days in my poker career. I lost 7 of 7 flips. I started counting after the third and didn't win a SINGLE flip in 7 hours of play. Unbelievable. Variance on the whole was an absolute tragedy today and this lead to some less than optimal play on my behalf. I think I did a good job refocusing and getting back to it toward the second half of the day though.

That's all for today. I'm going to get some sleep so I'm fresh for gym in the morning. GL all!

(Again sorry to those who have PM'd me or HMU on Skype, I'll definitely reply to you on Monday!!!!)

I don't think it's a big deal on it own but the I don't think the police are completely oblivious too it, Richard Sheil's famous encounter shows us that but admittedly that was all a result of a batsh*t jilted ex on the warpath and out for revenge. I still think it's <10% this Russian said Poker site though, I mean he's just another tennant right how would he know? Why did he keep on suddenly expecting a young Aussie to pick up fluent Russain mid-convo anyway the weirdo?

Don't count that stuff, you wouldn't if you'd won them all! Just move on and try to imagine you're just starting out the session again. Easier said than done of course.. at least you don't check results till the session is done & dusted which is good.

Do you plan on doing any (more?) partying there? That'd be hard to integrate with your schedule I guess but you're in Pattaya it would be a crime non too now and then (plus that stuff is usually gold for subbers!) Maybe a little reward after very disciplined weeks? Secretly this is what we are here for... or move to Chiang Mai you life nit.

I'll be following though, as I did with your live grind thread.. your writing style is very easy on the eye.

Yeah I have no idea hey. He just wouldn't stop lol. Eventually some young Russian guy came out of one of the nearby rooms and told him to stfu and they both left and I just closed the door wondering what happened. :')

Dude I know it is sooo bad to be counting this bs. I am usually really good with this sorta stuff but lately I've been struggling, more about this in main section of update...

Hahah yeah Chiang Mai is definitely for the life nits. Idk, I'm planning on doing 1 day a week of "partying" but to be completely honest it'll probably end up being something pretty quiet, maybe a few drinks with a bird. I did Walking St. 4 nights in a row when I got here, I'm all partied out. :')

That said, it is verrry tempting to just go run a muck out here. Although last time I went out I spent 20k baht at a single gogo bar and didn't even take a chick back. :') So I've told myself to pull my head in a bit.

I also need to get my head down and make some money ASAP!

Daily Update - Friday 28/09

So the positive from today is that I had one of the best workouts in a long long time. Was awesome. The negative for today is that I lost $189.58. I also lost a $1,700 flip today which sucked. But what's worse is why this sucks... Losing flips 200bb deep isn't supposed to suck. I'm supposed to feel completely indifferent in these spots. But admittedly, I'm not.

I've actually been extremely results oriented of late. I think it's because I feel like I'm playing such horrendously bad poker, deliberately. If I had to guess, my fold vs 3bet would be something absurd like 60-65%. My fold vs 4bet would be insanely high too. My fold vs stab after not cbetting is also ridiculously high. I'm sitting there knowing all this, wondering how on earth playing poker like this is supposed to show a profit. It's too early to tell whether my strategy as is will work in these games long term, so I just have to stick it out a while longer and continue pondering possible adjustments.

Usually I'm able to just grind like a robot, not caring at all about allins or running good/bad, but when you're deliberately playing 'bad', it's hard to wonder where the money's going to come from at times.

Anyway, just gotta be better over the weekend. Two more days of solid grinding. It's going to be a 50+ hour week for me (I forgot to program in a day off and I don't want to skip any of the weekend days).

A hand I'm curious about,

200bb deep
MP opens 6x, I 3bet black QQ 18x, fish in CO cold calls, MP calls. 3 to flop.
Flop 8TJcc
x, I cbet 1/2 pot, fish folds, MP raises 3.5x... Given stack depth, it's either go with it or fold.

Thoughts?

Until next time!

Make sure you tell your girlfriends 0 about poker. Also might be worth getting a vpn for additional safety. I wouldn't take that Russian thing lightly, it seems likely someone knows you're playing poker.

Just started reading that book and saw this thread so, subbed.
