I am a 24 year old from the Twin Cities, MN. I don't have any clear-cut goals at the moment, but long-term I aspire to fully support myself financially by playing cards....eventually. With a couple of months of living expenses covered, I'm dedicating the next 4-5 months to playing and we'll see where I end up from there. I'm starting this thread because I want to (1) keep focused (2) get feedback from other 2+2ers (3) be able to keep track of my history. I am primarily an online player, though would like to put more hours at the live games as well. I've been playing for about 5 years although only within the last year have I studied/practiced the game on a deep enough of a level to have a shot at going pro. I believe I'm very good online...not sure how good because I don't have a poker tracker. But I've often taken up $50 deposits into 2-4k in a day or two (variance? maybe.). My weaknesses are playing like a meth-head and getting sloppy in the 10th hour, so I hope with this thread I'll be able to keep focused and under control. My bankroll at the moment is sitting around 3.8k. As of yesterday it was less, but in the last couple of days I've been on a bit of a heater. I've played on just about every site out there. Right now I've been playing heads up (50NL-200NL), the latter when under tilt). Usually I'll try and build my bankroll by 4-tabling 50NL though. Anyways I'll be updating my status regularly and possibly including some stats/graphs (once I get pt), so I'd appreciate any constructive criticisms. Wish me luck!

GL to you. I'd very highly recommend setting some BRM and sticking to it. I don't wish anything negatively upon you, but after reading your op my first thought was this thread wont be around long. Short of a good MTT bink the type of poker required to run 50 into 2k in 2 days is usually the same type that gets guys from 2k to 0 in pretty short order.

Set some BRM, set some goals, work hard on sticking to both of them, annnnnd profit??

GL.

Yup, very true. I found myself getting stacked off at 50NL and jumping up to 400NL in the attempt to earn it back in one hand. This is a great way of guaranteeing yourself failure. I have a list of a couple of strategies I created for myself to try and make things like this not happen. Some of them might not be the quickest/most efficient way to profit but for right now I feel each of them does a good job at counteracting some of my weaknesses. Since you brought up BRM I think it'd be an appropriate time to list them:

(1) Always to buy-in full stack
(2) Never to exceed 4 hours/session unless 5 buy-ins earned, at least one hour break in between sessions, and no more than 3 sessions per day unless 7buy-ins earned
(3) Never to exceed more than 4 tables at a time
(4) Never to exceed 50 buy-ins/limit, the allowable exception being when taking shots at higher limits, in which case never to exceed more than 2 tables/time and 35 buy-ins/limit.
(5) 3 buy-in daily stopping point
(6) Always to deposit in $50 increments
(7) Always to withdrawal once reaching 20x initial deposit ($1000)
