Big mistake in my OP. My goal is to write down every hand where I put 20 BB into the pot, not 50.

Also want to get to 5/10 so that I don't have to wait on the 2/5 list here for an hour anymore.

Another reason I did this is because one of my best friends died in August and I just got hit with the sudden realization of how short and fragile life can be. I didn't want to have a huge regret later on in life by passing on this opportunity.

Thanks all my chat thread bros for the sub too.
Had the same thing happen to me, sorry for your loss.. glad you took the opportunity and I hope you make the best of it and good luck! I will try n keep up with the thread my man.

New Year, Same Sh*t

Sorry for taking this long to update. I put in three sessions since starting this thread and it's pretty much been more of the same for me. First night I lost ~1.5 BI, second night I won ~1.5 BI, third night I lost ~1.5 BI. I just can't string together consistent wins right now.

My biggest issue right now is my thought process at the table and how quickly I am making my decisions. I find myself acting more quickly and instinctively when I am not currently knowledgeable enough to be doing that. I need to be taking more time to take in all of the information (board textures, villain ranges, pot size, etc.) post flop before making my decisions. I find myself very often betting the wrong amount on certain streets simply because I am not thinking enough before acting.

I took Saturday off and will be taking Sunday off to do some exercises that I think will help improve some of my problem areas.

I didn't have any AIDS hands this week but I did have this one where I played it wrong on the flop and river but I think the result would have been the same no matter what. I don't think I've been on the other side of one of these hands since I started getting staked:

Effective stacks: ~$600
Preflop ($7): Hero is in MP2 w/ JJ
Two limpers (including one that looked like a 12 year old version of McLovin who wouldn't stop talking about rollercoasters) to Hero who makes it 30, BTN calls, blinds fold, UTG+1 limper calls.

BTN is a fish on a SUPER heater unlike anything I'd seen in quite a while. He was playing aggressively post flop with strong hands. When he raised flops he usually had a very strong showdown hand. UTG+1 is an older fit or fold nit.

Flop ($102): 2 3 3
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets 55, Button calls, UTG+1 folds.

Turn ($212): 4
Hero bets 80, BTN calls.

River ($372): J
Hero's erection slaps the bottom of the table and he bets 180, BTN tanks and hollywoods for a couple of seconds and goes AI for the rest of Hero's stack, Hero snap calls.

Spoiler:
BTN shows 56

I cut my session short after this hand because I thought I played it absolutely atrociously but after going over it with Kydd I wasn't as disappointed with it as I originally thought. I really think I'm going to turn the corner now in terms of my bet sizing and being able to recognize board textures.

Another goal I want to add is to read one non-poker book per month. I am going to start with "Thinking, Fast and Slow" by Daniel Kahneman. I have heard this book be highly recommended by others and after reading the synopsis I think this will greatly help the mental barriers I can't seem to overcome at the table.

Oh absolutely. I'm not complaining. These things are going to happen and I know eventually I will be on the right side of a couple of these hands.

Looks fine to me. A lot more nut flushes in his range than that.

He sounds awesome.

I really don't see that hand playing out too differently regardless of what you do. It looks like the nuttiest river in the history of nutty rivers especially against a super fish who just called flop and turn. Basically you just need to learn how to

run better.

Does the staking agreement have a set time where you have to show 'x' results, or is it more organic?
Good luck turning the corner. Is anyone in the stable playing just PLO? I was back for business in November and the games were great.

Organic there's no set hours or amount you need to be making. People do play PLO yes.

"Mr. Slow Play"

Only played two sessions since my last update but I'm feeling a lot more comfortable playing now. I've been working on taking my time at each decision and properly taking into account all relevant information before making my decisions. Both sessions resulted in modest wins but I'm pretty happy with the way I played. The monster sessions are coming.

Next week I'm going down to the Borgata for two weeks which I think will be a nice change of pace for me. I'm real comfortable playing there since it's where a huge bulk of my prior playing experience comes from. Will also be playing Event 1 of the Winter Open which is a 2 mil guarantee. This is by far the biggest tourney I've ever played and I'm really excited for it.

Funny hand from my session tonight which shows just how clueless some players really are sometimes:

Effective stacks ~600
Preflop ($7): Hero is in the HJ with 45.
Two limpers, Hero overlimps, CO and BTN limp, BB checks.

BB is a huge calling station. CO is some dude named Tom who kept talking about how great his PG&C was on 2p2.

Flop ($32): 445
Checked to Hero who bets 15, CO and BB call.

Turn ($77): Q
BB checks, Hero bets 40, CO folds, BB calls.

River ($157): K
BB leads for 40, Hero raises to 120, BB takes a while and calls.

BB shows 84

Funny part is that a couple of orbits later this same villain bluffed me with the best hand and showed. He then heckled me saying "That's right 'Mr. Slow Play my full house'. I'm coming after you from now on."

Bet, bet, raise is the new slow play. I am a pioneer. I also now have a new person to add to my "sit at their table" list. The more I play at this casino the more I'm getting to know the regs and which ones are worth sitting down with.

One more goal I want to add is to stop chopping. It's amazing how often people will spew against you when you refuse to chop.

1/9 To Do List:
[ ] Gym
[ ] Read 1 hour
[ ] Play 6 hours

IMO you have to bet bigger here, there are a lot of stupid draws here that are super happy to call for only half pot, mainly from BTN, and you miss value from over pairs.

Turn ($212): 4
Hero bets 80, BTN calls.

This is a bad card and I'm pretty lost as to what I would do. Could you explaing your reasoning for betting this size. I think I may have just checked here, but that is losing value from the over pair part of his range. Do you think this player would float you with a AQ+ with one of them being a spade?

River ($372): J
Hero's erection slaps the bottom of the table and he bets 180, BTN tanks and hollywoods for a couple of seconds and goes AI for the rest of Hero's stack, Hero snap calls.

Awesome card and easy bet/call

Spoiler:
BTN shows 56

Really good book, I only read half of it like a two years ago and never went back to it because I have a problem finishing things.

Zephyr- completely agree with your flop assessment. On the turn I still think I have the best hand a decent amount and want to keep him around.
