Doug Polk and Charlie Carrel doing their $50 to $10,000 challenges got me thinking. This just doesn't seem like that big of a challenge for such strong players, except for maybe the time commitment.

I wonder if I can do better? Is this even possible?

While I am not as accomplished as Dough and Charlie I am long time pro. In 2017 I played mostly live poker but this year I have been more interested in playing online. The last few months I have upped my studying and started to play a bit more online.

I just had a look at my online balances, so this will be a $5,666 to $50,000 challenge!

BR = 5516

Not a great start as I booked a small loss and was surprisingly frustrated with the 90m session. I think I made 3 bad calls, but at least one guy decided to 4B/call with 89s and my QQ held.

I am ready for big weekend grind!

I had an ok morning study session but I think I need to wait to start my study until after my second cup o joe.

My grind started off slow, then the fire alarm for my building scared the crap out of me. I thought it was going to make my ears bleed it was so loud. After a short walk and the building was clear and it was back to the grind. Games were good and I think I played my A-game for the entire session.

No expectations. I have not done well in the past when I did volume challenges as it led to too many B-game and C-game sessions. I am going to focus more on the process than specific goals.

I want to make sure I am improving my game so that I can make a nice profit without playing excess volume. The only way to do this is to get good enough at the game that I can player higher stakes.

Yesterday and this morning were a big study grind with GTO+ / monker / poker friends. I am looking forward to actually playing some poker tonight.

I felt like I was running terrible but I should be happy with an up day.

At least I had another productive study day. Based on some of the beats I took the games are still good.

I might as well include a health/fitness challenge my girl and I are doing together for Oct. We are both shooting for 10,000 steps per day starting tomorrow.

After the last 3 days of grinding, I am feeling "uncomfortable". These games seem pretty soft so it feels like the switch of doom has been flipped on me. But what really makes me uncomfortable is that I don't have hand histories to review. I know how easy it is to deceive ourselves into thinking we are playing good. Without the feedback loop of reviewing my hands, I will just have to trust my in game beliefs/recollections that I am playing well and just running bad.

7 Days in a row of 10K+ steps!

I had a rough couple of days but had a nice comeback tonight. I have decided I don't want the distraction of posting daily win/loss numbers. I will likely do some kind of end of month update on results. I would rather keep focused on the process of playing and studying.

I haven't been worrying much about game selection as most tables seem pretty good. Playing tonight I looked around the table and saw all solid reg stats for the ~75 hands I had these guys. The thought of sitting out crossed my mind and the very next hand this happens(below).

I open 99 from MP and call a 3B from the SB. The SB continuation bets 758r flop, and I call. He overbet jams the turn on 758r 6 with his KK

I am pretty happy with the small move up in the bankroll as it was done with pretty low volume. In order to get better with my volume, I am going to change my morning routine. I am going to play at least one session early in the day when I am most focused and before I get tired and lazy.

I hit the 30 days in a row of 10K steps, for a total of 312,000 steps or 140 miles. The poker didn't go as well mainly due to a lack of volume so I have been thinking about why I did so well on one goal and not so well on the other.

I have a Garmin activity tracker that I set to show the number of steps instead of the time/date. I found myself looking at my watch and measuring my days by how many steps I had left. Maybe I need a number of hands played tracker on my wrist. I also had daily check-ins with my girlfriend about how many steps we each had left. We were accountable to each other every day. So I lack daily accountability and feedback on hours or hands of poker played. I did track my poker play, but this felt like it was mainly about money won/lost.

So going forward I plan to play poker every day for the next 30-days both live and online. I am not going to post live results but I will post daily to this thread as a way to be a bit more accountable. I will update my online results at end of the month and not daily. I am also thinking I may be more aggressive about playing a little higher online since grinding 100NL isn't very interesting or motivating.

The last 3 days I have gotten to the casino about two hours after waking up. I really like this schedule and the games have been pretty good. Somehow this also pleases the poker gods and they have bestowed on me the rewards

I have only played one short 200NL online session so far but it was a good start for +$158 in about an hour.

On the fitness side of things, we decided the November challenge will be 7K steps everyday+15 minutes of stretching/PT exercises for nagging old injuries we have both been nursing. I will also be riding my bicycle to/from the casino most days.

Online Bankroll = $6398

With my new schedule of live play, I doubt I will get more than 5-10 hours of online poker so I have to hope I can move up from 200NL next year.
