Hi guys ! I've attempted challenges before and only lasted a few days but I'm confident this time I can stick it out! Basically I'm a fun poker player that would like to actually make a bit of money off it rather than losing!

Put in $5000 on the 12/04/21 and will track it all here.

I'm going to attempt to turn $5,000 into $20,000, I'll play a mixture of cash games and low/mid stake tournaments. There is no time limit on this as it's just for fun.

Background: I'm 28 years old from Ireland, I've been playing MTT's since 2017 and had a small bit of profit from them, I think my main downfall is my BRM, it doesn't exist! Many times I've managed to spin up my bankroll but then play buy in's which were much too high, not only were the buy ins too high but the skill levels were much too far apart and off I go to start all over again. I'm sure many people have gone through this but I think (or hope) I've learned my lesson this time. I'm hoping with this thread it will keep me in line. I'm relatively new to cash games but will need incorporate them into the challenge.

Just going to update this now,

I've continued to play a few tourneys here and there with no success, a few nice runs but unfortunately not quite making it to the bigger monies!

I decided to have a go at 100NL reg tables knowing full well that I shouldn't and it ended in disaster for me , lost something like 5.5BI's over 2k hands! As much as I'm not rolled or skillful enough for them I did run fairly horrid in a few spots.

Anyways for now I'll quietly move back down to 50NL for the future where I think I'll have an easier time

And to continue with some tournaments today and sunday

Balance: $4683.83

PS. I was having trouble with PT4 tracking results from tourneys over the last few weeks. I deleted and reinstalled PS and PT4. I then reset all the databases on it in hope that it will pick up results from now on.

Dude, you have the bankroll for 100nl. I know this is just for fun, but maybe do some serious study with pre flop solved ranges, hand reviews (all of them, watch how the regulars play), and some solver work. You are way overroled for 50nl, so use some of the bankroll to buy some tools?

I guess I mean I ain't skilled enough for 100nl so yeah you are right, I should really look into that. I guess playing out of my comfort zone in cash is the problem too On a plus not for this challenge I'll post underneath.

I just came 4th in Scoop 59 medium, It pretty much gives me the balance for this challenge, I'm happy of course but I made one mistake on the FT which cost me my tourney life! Bet the turn too small valuing the big stack and he smashes trips on river. Live and learn

Anyways here's the prize money for it.

I'll decide on what I'm going to do tomorrow regards roll, but I do want to continue this thread.

Well , I've actually reached the 20k over the last few days. I'm going to continue to update this thread every week or so from now on and see where we can get the balance too.

I will continue to play tournaments as I feel they are what I'm better at but I will mix in a few cash games too.

I guess there is no end goal now other than to try and spin it up as far as I can.

As for today we have a Day 2 in 109 mini Super Tuesday, going in with just under average stack. Here's to dreaming of the 91k score and a trophy

Just going to give a little update as to how things are going,

Basically I've been trying to concentrate on SCOOP MTT's. I feel like I've not quite played my best recently but ran good today in Scoop 87 Low. Once Scoop is over I'll be going back to work and will have a good run at cash games then and MTT's on the weekends.

I've played a few cash games once the MTT's are over but will up the volume in cash games after. Looking forward to the Sunday grind tomorrow

Well now that Scoop is pretty much over , I've decided to withdraw 14k and put some of it towards a deposit for a house, I'll have to go 6 months or so without withdrawing/depositing on any gambling sites to get a mortgage so I'll restart 5k to 20k challenge again.

As previously stated by a poster I should invest in poker tools and not just be content to stay at certain stakes. I'm going to invest 3k of it in BBZ daily seminars which will help my tournament play, I've already a subscription to RIO in which there is much more content aimed towards cash games.

If I'm being honest studying is the hardest thing for me to do. I've always great intentions of studying but it never materializes. I'm going to put in a much more effort to study.

This time round even if I do manage to bink something to get to 20k I won't be able to touch it so 5k to the moon for now again.

Just going to update this now as I haven't in awhile, What I done in the end was withdraw the additional balance on stars and leave 5k in there, while depositing 2k on GG to see if could try to spin something up on there as well. While I also bought daily seminars in BBZ to the tune of 3k along with Apestyles bundle.

I played a little cash and but spent much more time on tourneys. I had got the 7k total between the two sites up to 9k I was totally ignoring any BRM and it has now dropped back down to $6438.

I guess you could say this has given me the motivation to drop back down in stakes and stick to BRM again. Do it properly so to speak.

I've limited Stars to $55 buy in and GG to $30 buy in.

I'm trying to study 1 hour a day minimum but have skipped days which I'm disappointed with but I'll get there slowly.

I'm back to work now so I've to try and manage my time to be able to play tourneys consistently. Whereas for cash games they are just easier to jump into and play when
I get home from work.

I might try to update this weekly now maybe on a Monday and then post some graphs on a monthly basis.

For MTT's this is too risky BRM but if you're making solid money in cash it should be okish, do whatever you want

When I say I limited it to 55 I mean that's the max buy in. Like I plan to ABI around 22, just will have to put in the 55 Mini HR BB on stars as it's pretty soft along with the lower buy ins. I certainly won't be aiming for a 55 ABI

I see, guess 22 abi is fine if you're also making money with cash games. Think good pure MTT bankroll management is like 300-500bi+? Not sure though, I'm actually interested what pure MTT regs use for BRM

Honestly I'm new to the cash games part so that'll only make up a tiny bit of my game. I'm more interested and most certainly better at MTT's , in general I've tried to stick too 1% as the max buy in and have an average ABI of about 0.5%, in saying that I have been know to blow a BR or two before

Hehe all I know is when I played SNGs I wanted 250+ bi for the higher buyins because margins were slim and I was 30+ tabling usually (+ I sucked back then but so did everyone else hehe), guess since you can archieve a way higher roi in the lower MTTs your brm should be decent!

Hi All!

Well as I said I'm going to try keep it with a weekly update anyways. Been a quite enough week regarding results. I'm still studying away with BBZ and learning and improving most days :P

I had been attempting up to 10 or 11 tables on a Sunday when there is heaps of tourneys on but I think it's probably a bit too many tables for me to concentrate properly. I'm going to stick to 6 tables maximum which might drop the volume but if it helps me to learn and play better it'll be worth it. I'm not exactly playing much volume now as I'm back to work but if I do finish work at 5pm I try to reg tourneys until 7.30pm.

I know it's not ideal but I'm up for work at 6.30am and if I do run deep sometimes I want to get 2-3 hours sleep anyways. I've been doing ok with tourneys so I haven't had really much time playing cash which I plan to play if I'm gone from tourney's early

May has been somewhat mediocre, Tournaments didn't go well when needed and as for cash games I'm getting used to them Still trying to study but I'm lacking the discipline to make myself do it everyday.

I've not played properly since the 25th of May. It's probably the first time in two years I've not had the desire to play poker. Going to regroup and try and hit June hard. I'm putting it down to burnout after Scoop. I'm not sure what a realistic goal is for the amount of hands to play but if I can hit 1k hands/day for June I'll be happy with that, I know it might not seem like a lot but with fulltime work I think it's about the best I can achieve.
