How do you study off the table?

Im fortunate enough to be in a good situation where I can pick the brains/annoy a few people who are much better than me, and also have a few people that are slightly worse than me who ask me for advice.

I say good situation as it forces me to wrap my hand around a few things and dilute it to my level in order to try to explain it to others, therefore understanding it more myself.

I use Flopzilla occasionally, but sadly I can't use any software as I bought a mac which is essentially useless if you want to get good at poker.

Also Rail HS thread a decent bit.

Phuket in one month, you still going to be there?

Not too sure yet, If my friends back home have sorted a house by then ill be away, if not ill be here. Should know more in a couple of weeks.


March Wrap-up

Pretty tough/disappointing end to the month after starting like a baus. Although on a whole Im happy with my work ethic and how I played this month.

Goals


[X] Play 30k hands - Mashed with my most HU hands in a month ever.

[X] Play 3k hands @ 200 zoom - Played just over 5k, with profit.

[ ] - Ship 5k - Didn't quite get there in terms of profit(although with 45k hands played comfortably got there with rb)


Life goals

[ ] - Go whale watching - Apparently I couldn't do this cause it wasn't the correct season to do so

[ ] - Go to Great Barrier Reef - Pretty disappointed I didn't see it in my time in Aus, but just seemed too far at a 18 hour bus journey from Brisbane.
[X] - Hit up Byron Bay

[ ] - Decide what I want to do for the next few months - Still just winging it in Thailand, could be worse I guess.





Goals for April

[ ] - Play 40k hands

[ ] - Play at least 7k hands of 200 zoom

[ ] - Find a way around getting poker software onto a mac

[ ] - Ship 6k

[ ] - Pad roll by an extra 2k(getting ready for the 2/5 zoom pool )

As a United fan tonight is a pretty sad/special night, could/should be the last time I see United play a Champions league match at Old Trafford for some time

My advice is keep travelling mate! You don't really get to have a list back in the uk let alone tick half of it off!

did you profit at zoom aswel? or is the main portion of profits from regular hu?

I actually lost at the regular tables(@200nl), didn't get too much action(3.5k). Only won a little at the 200 zoom and crush 100 zoom harder than life itself

Reasonable start to the month, got reasonable volume with reasonable winnings.

Slowly making my way through MOP, although most of it feels like its going in one ear out the other, on account of me being an idiot.

United game was epic, I was the solo Utd fan amongst ~15 munich fans, proceeded to get drunk and wind them up the entire game, was all in good fun though

Also brag, managed to bang the hottest girl I've banged to date afterwards.

Beat, she has a Thai boyfriend who when I asked what he does she replies "Thai boxing".

Played this hand today, sometimes you just gotta have heart

So you had a read that his over bet on turn and river is likely to be some kind of QJ+ value hand that he'll then fold for 3:1 odds? It's hard to imagine him perceiving that 3h to have improved your range, are you slow playing 2p+ to that overbet on turns like this often? Seems like an ambitious move for small stakes. I'd expect the average guy to go for more pot control with all the one pair hands you beat, rather than over betting. You must have had some specific read on the guy that you're not sharing. I'd take that over "heart" any day

lol I never said the hand was played well, just thought it was fun and it made for some good gifs.

But, fwiw, he's far from an "Average" small stakes player(Probably the best at my limit), I can still have the nuts here(I don't think I have a raising range facing an overbet OTT), OTR the only hand I shove for value is 89, so I don't need to worry about if I can rep 2 pair+ or not, if I'm going to include one bluff here I want it to be with a hand that blocks the nuts/nutted hands and as little flush draws as possible. Which is essentially my hand.

I also have some other reasons that I just can't share lol(regarding his overbet, overbet) given the slim chance he's on 2+2 and reads this thread

All in all, probably ambitious and "bad", but hey, I like to gambol

I should caveat my advice on travelling by saying its hard to regret coming home. its a beautiful day sun is shining and i've just been into town for a coffee with an old school friend (pretty girls always great company) and if you make the most of it anywhere you are can be amazing.

Im thinking of getting a night security job so i can play poker. the kind where you just sit on a front desk for 12 hours 6-6 so i can pay the bills but grind as a second tax free income. the combination would be a decent wage and allow me the free time to set up a few businesses I'm looking at.

If you do come back and wanna get a poker house going let me know or if you know of any etc.

That sounds like a pretty nice shift haha, as long as you don't have some jobs-worth dude coming round every 20mins to make sure you aren't messing about(like playing poker haha).

Yea its really hard to say whether ill be home, whatever decision I elect to choose will result in my life being the polar opposite of the other choice, and both sides have their strong points.

Chances are if I go home ill be looking at poker house' all the time as a way to get out or even just out of boredom, so yea np.

Its the degen part of living in Patong that is most appealing to me , for example, I have the itch to go out tonight, but feel as if I need to put in a lot of work if I'm to do so(Told myself I would be less of a degen this time around), so the target is, 3k hands and I can go and get ****ed up, 1.5k and counting

yer defo would make it clear i want a sit there and make sure no1 breaks in kinda job lol, I could easy go back to the city and make 40k in a reg job but i just don't want that life any more. I'm sure there are jobs in posh apartment blocks that just need someone in the lobby etc. fact is I'm not good enough at poker to rely on it but something like that would give me loads of hours to grind away while being paid anyway. im really surprised more poker players didn't start by doing something similar.

Really only shove the nuts for value on the river? Vs. this villain with the specific reads you have I assume. If that's true then this hand was played well IMO. If you can't get value from QQ+ on this river with sets/ect then turning J9 into a bluff here is perfect.

Anyway. Nice thread, I'm in. I'm taking a lot of interest in HU these days. So far mostly table starting/saving and playing HU vs 6m regs who are horrible at HU, but that's a great place to start practicing IMO.

Unfortunately 115bb deep yes the only hand I value shove on the river is the nuts, I can't have too many combos of sets(If any, I 3bet JJ,TT ~100% with these stack sizes, and given the nature of the board texture I c/r flop with 77 pretty much always) leaving 66 + 33(can't have 33 for obvious reasons and I only have 66 on rare occasion), Cant have too many strong 2 pairs either(3bet JTs, leaving only JTo(which once again I c/r a large amount on this texture) + weaker two pairs, but I think shoving 2 pairs vrs this line when my opponents range is uncapped is too thin.)

Nah, although did get my personal best the other night, only had one proper night out so far, gona try to get Dave, Gino and Dace out this weekend, feel like a pervert going to go go's on my own.
