Yeah, this is one of the biggest mistakes that a player can make.
Database is incredibly valuable when it comes to poker. For studying the game, objectively tracking your own progress/stats and using the HUD with as much info on your opponents as you can have.

I think that people usually do this to try and "delete" the bad results from their past and pretend like they never happened.

i was mentaly pretty tilted , I was 12.5k$ down and I felt like I was just chasing loses. So after Prague I just deleted it and I don't regret it.

Its not that -EV when you grind high volume it just takes a few weeks till I have a decent sample on regulars + strategies changes.

At the end the lesson should be to work on my mental game.

dont think old stats from any regs are relevent, if anything you may just end up exploiting yourself

I started a new database as well. Only 200z hands.

Mostly for the "fresh start" sensation and also, like AMMNADAV said, strats/meta change. When I face a 200z reg in a hand, idc about how he played 100z 1 year ago.

Also I prefer a recent 1k hands sample than mixed stats from before in time.

Then change your hud to show only the past 1k hands. There is literally no reason to delete hands/databases. And computers nowadays manage fine with millions of hands in them. This 'fresh start' fallacy is just pure nonsense.

Reminds me of new years resolution. Just an excuse for lazy people to put the fact they're unmotivated to the back of their minds.

Just my 2 cents

well I do get rid of my databases too but it's really just pure laziness because I don't want to bother backing it up, when my computer starts being slow or w/e I just format and don't really save anything lol
