I assume you just have a confusing title and actually have a bank roll? Or are you playing live 2/5 and 5/10 PLO with $500 bankroll?

Started with a $500 roll. What fun is a challenge without risk of failure?

As a background, this is my progress for about 1.5 months grinding $.5/$.10 and $.10/$.25 before switching to live. The large uptick near the end is when I binked a tourney, and the large downswing is after I moved up to $.25/$.50 and $1/$2 online (though I ran pretty badly during those few sessions).

Live progress has been going well - will post current live results at week end.

All 2/5 PLO. Played low variance style. Off to a good start.

It's been a tumultuous week. I had an insane session the other day, went shopping, then the next two sessions, dropped $3K of it. I've been feeling pretty depressed because of it.

I get in these weird mental states where when I lose I think I just really suck at poker, and that those times I win, I must just be getting lucky.

Then when I win, I think of how great of a player I am, and that I will just continue printing money whenever I play.

Also, the car has some major issues recently, so I will need to purchase a vehicle in the next few weeks. Options are car/motorcycle/scooter, thinking somewhere between $2K and $6K, which is a significant portion of my BR and life roll. Suggestions appreciated!

If losing 3k in back to back plo sessions gets you depressed, you're in for a really rough ride. That doesn't even come close to qualifying for a downswing. If you fear that level of variance you also are probably not maximizing your earning potential/playing great. 3k pots are routine in 2/5 plo and 3k losses should not be a big deal. Read at least one of (all three would be ideal) Mental Game of Poker, zen and the art of poker, and elements of poker.

Also, stop being a cock to people in the HSPLO forum who are better than you (not including myself here, I'm referring to others) and being helpful just because they critiqued your game or disagreed with you. You can learn a lot if you keep posting AND are more open minded.

Good luck.

Thank you very much for the suggestions, especially on the books. I'll start reading Mental Game of Poker.

1 year is up.

Games played: 1/3 NLH (5%), 1/2/5 PLO (80%), 2/5/10 PLO (10%), a few PLO tourneys, a few NLH tourneys
Total won: $20,745
Total sessions: 148
Sessions per week: 2.8
$/session: +$140.17
Average session length: ~4 hours

Best session: +$4806
Worst session: -$4650
Standard deviation: $1301
% winning sessions: 60%

Beginning bankroll: $500
Current bankroll: ~$5000

1st downswing happened after intensely studying PLO from an online course. I tried out many new things live and got absolutely obliterated. I realized online 6-max and live are very different.

Last year was a decent year, and this year has started off even better.

Currently playing mostly 1/2/5 PLO, but mixing in more 5/10 PLO. The game difference and skill difference between the two games is pretty evident, and the swings in 5/10 are huge for what I'm used to. At 5/10 players are much more aware of which cards are good and bad for their range, and very often capitalize on opportunities to put their opponents in tough spots because of it. Players are much more aggressive, and there is much less nut peddling.

I could just avoid it and continue to print money at 1/2/5, but I'd like to get better and earn more in the long run, so I'm willing to take the risk playing short-stacked in 5/10.

Current bankroll is at $18K, aiming for a $40K roll by the time the WSOP starts.

Mixed in some 5/10/20 recently for a few hours, then realized I didn't see any fish at the table, so quit Game selection is key

Graph this year so far:

IDK if I just went on a bad night, but I played 5-card PLO at MGM National Harbor recently, and it had the biggest nits I've ever played with. Such a boring game when I raise pre and often just pick up the blinds w/out seeing a flop.
