Session 10 Report - December Report

So this is the last session I will be playing of December and 2010. Managed to ship my last one going to get me a proiftbale session to finish which is a nice way to exit the year. Was down a fair bit mid session but didnt feel remotely tilted today, was taking beats but just staying chilled out and drinking lots of water (this helps me).

So a pretty dissapointing month to say the least, I had hoped to be playing the 12s by now. The month has been super swongy, with nearly reaching busto but somehow not, and lots of downswings already. My volume hasn't been TOO bad, 2 weeks and 1k games isnt that bad imo with xmas going on inbetween. Obviously my 180 roi of 1.1 is attrocious, and will hopefully go up to 40% by the end of 2011.
ROI for 45s is only 7.5% but I'm more happy about that, I feel I'm adjusting my game to them now and I had a few massive leaks, mainly shoving too light and calling way too light as a result - as I thought others were shoving as light as I was and adjusted my range as such.

Whilst playing today I thought about variance, and really think too many people like to blame variance for monster downswings - almost bragging they're on a 300 bi downswing etc, and I have a few feelings on this (i too have in the past been known to say things such as '250bi ds is standard'). I think that downswings completely change peoples approach to poker, the fact is we ARENT robots, so subconciously on some level i think our decisions are being affected - this then exagerates the downswing and makes them more severe than should it just be variance.
Random musings over, I'm hopeful that I'm going to now be able to get over the view of 'meh standard variance' and start focusing and realising that it may actually be me making bad plays as well.
I'm not one of those people that will play a session and not have many 'meh what do i do here spots', I'm not naturally talented in that sense. Tons of times its just little things, I have 15bbs and someones limped and JJ, do I shove, do I raise to 3.5x, 3x? Little things such as I have 66 behind a limper utg+1 at t200 I have 2400 in cutoff, ship? Fold?
These trvial to other spots I think about, and I think its these decisions that downswings can then influence our decisions.

So random rant for 2010 over, 2011 then I have to go from $411.17 to $100,000.00 if I am to achieve my goal, and I look forward to it.

Really hungover atm, had house party with 25ish people, one of best nights ive ever had, chinese lanterns, fire in garden, loads of drinking games, loads of food etc.
Was really good fun but i was so hungover this morning its unreal, had to make myself be sick a couple of times, but I'm coming around now.

Session 11 Report - January 2011 targets

So before I start my report I want to give some goals I have for January, as I feel making these goals at the start of each month will motivate me more and simply not spew as much! So here they are:

1. Achieve Goldstar VIP. This is basically a volume one requiring roughly 2500 mtt sngs IF I'm stuck playing 2.20s and 3.25s all month.
2. Be playing 12s by the end of the month.
3. Study more - this is a weakness, outside of playing I hardly fiddle around with sngwiz or even strat forums, normally the only time i'll do this is when im down to 5 or so tables and winding down.

So onwards and upwards - Decided to play today as my hangover backed off thanks to a nice burger and chips at 2pm, so by about 10pm decided to grind a session. Played really well I think, especially in 45s, I think I had way more leaks than I believed when I returned to them. Specifically a really basic one - I think a lot of times I just dont fold enough when deep or on fts. I really dislike blinding away, but there are times I am now starting to believe I just have to fold away my JT etc with 3bbs when theres another 2 stacks with 2bbs about to hit the blinds. Anyhow I'm deffo learning again thats good, and I was super focused all night - managed to not go on internet whilst playing which is a massive deal for me, otherwise I literally click buttons and have no recall of it. Often I'll see a table and a hand and look at hh and be like 'wow I didnt even realise that hand' that I've just played, I auto-pilot way too much.
So 2011 is off to a profitable start which is nice, even if hourly was slow, and I'm waiting to win a few 180s and I'll be truely up and running!

Session 12 Report

Heyooooooo, heater time imo - Ran really good in the 45s today, which was good. Changed my approach a little as suggested by someone else in other threads - When I got to a few fts or bubbles I stopped regin till I was down to 1 or less ft. This helped me focus, I just played 1 solid session of 5hrs, but was occasionally down to like 8tables or so if I was deep in loads.
Also did something I'm normally against. Stalling - A few times I had like 2bbs with 19people left in the 180s, and normally i just chuck it in for a double up, but decided from now on I'm playing maximum +EV so was just stalling and playing for the mincash then try get it in. Seemed to work well.
Also played a little differently, not isoing anywhere near as loose or 3bet shoving as light as before, I was 3b shoving KQ KJ with 13-14bbs before, which I thinks a leak as ppl dont open wide they limp or raise with monsters. I think my mtt games have made my 180 and 45 play worse, but hopefully I'm improving

Managed to cook beans on toast as well as taking a pee in a 5min break as well, super good imo.

Beans on toast in a sync break is incredible skills. I have to stick to sandwiches or something preprepared. A cup of tea is sometimes a struggle to let it brew so have to stick to Coffee.
