Hi guys, I am a recreational player from Slovenia and have decided to set a new goal for myself. I have just finished my studies and I am unemployed and by the looks of it, will be for some time. Therefore I decided to get some money by playing poker.

I am not a stranger to the game since I played before, but I never made it past 10nl. My main drawback was my fishy mental game, so I will be working on that the most.

I deposited on pokerstars all I had on skrill which is just over 30$ and the goal is obviously to get to 1k. I started by playing 2nl and will be taking a 10 buyin shot on the next limit when I have at least 30 buyins for that limit. Rakeback will be included as bankroll.

First week of playing is already over. I played both zoom and regular tables. I got my bankroll to 151$ (including 20$ from starscoin).

Tommorow I will try my luck on 5nl and hopefully it will not be too swingy.

So nl5 shot was a bust. I ran horrible the whole time and 7 buyins uder EV, but no problem its all part of the game. For my next shot I decided to play full ring regular for a while tables just to decrease variance as much as possible. But for now back to 2nl till 150$.

How many tables do you play at a time? and how many hours a day are you playing?

I play 4-6 tables zoom and 8-12 normal short hand tables, but I feel comfortable doing that only on nl2. On nl5 I play less. Time wise I play 3 hours in the evening or sometimes 6 if I have the time.

It took some time but I am back at 150$ and rdy for another shot at 5nl. After the last shot I fell into a breakeven and at times spewy state, so that because of that I builded 40$ of my roll with rakeback on freaking 2nl. Feels like time wasted but still better than going busto.

My game has a lot of flaws in it but I feel that most of mine drawbacks come from a bad mental game. During my grueling breakeven period I identified 2 major flaws that are the most damaging to me.

1. Not plaing consistently. During times when mine morale drops or I become tired, I sometimes start playing with apathy and dont care about the money anymore. I start calling 3bets oop with ****y hands and start calling river bets even tho I know im beat just to see villains hand. I am not talking about tilt, but rather a different mellow state of mind that hinders progress. And the worse part is that sometimes I do this on autopilot and dont even realize it.

2. Not accepting that every session will not be a wining one. After a long session if no progress has been made, I tend to start playing a little bit more aggresive so that I fininsh the session with a couple of buying in the green and with that I set myself into playing in a -EV way.

I will try to be aware of mine mental drawbacks during this nl5 shot and play more slowly and think about hands. Also I will stay away from zoom tables, just to decrease variance a little bit at least until I get a couple of buyins in the green. And a new addition I am thinking of implementing in my game is a 4 buyin stoploss.
