Well, rare Sunday off for me. I won a sat into the Sunday storm the other day so I'm playing that and also a few other tournies. Today is tournament day. Gl all, play well.

Out in 2 of the 3 I started. UTG riased to 2500, I shoved all in with KK for 8K and a guy calls with 66 and hits his set on the flop. We were about 25bb deep. lol. ah well. Still in the sunday storm but down to shove or fold now. Just started up 2 more.

Well done for the day. Pretty crappy results. Won a few sat's but my biggest cash was $10.00 I guess I'll stick to cash for the near future heh.



I decided I would deposit some of the money I won last night so I have a more reasonable roll. I also got $10 back in rakeback and a nice $5 chest.



So my current roll is $220.68 and I'm up $8 since this began ($23 including rakeback).

Been studying and playing. I bought the snowie ap today and I think I'm going to get a lot out of it. I know some people don't like it but even just reviewing a few sessions with it really helped me in certain spots. I am excited by how much there is to learn actually, which is great. I'm enjoying the challenge. There's less frustration for some reason too when things go bad.

Month is almost over and I smashed some goals and failed on others. I'll adjust for Feb and begin again.

Ok, January is done and I thought it would be a good idea to see how my goals went.

These were my goals:

My poker goals:

1. Play 10,000 hands per month. (Played 41,250 hands which was way more than I expected I could do. I was just enjoying it I guess. Goal achieved!)
2. Study 2-5 hours per week. (hh's, book, podcasts, posting on hands etc.) I would say that I also achieved this although I didn't track it exactly. I listed to lots of podcasts, reviewed hands and read.


Life goals:

1. Make 90K this year at my sales job. (On track.)
2. Save 20K to invest. (Behind pace. Did not save anything this month due to expenses I was not expecting)
3. Lose 20lbs by July 1st and another 20 by Jan 1st (current weight is 238lbs). (On track, I just weighed myself and I'm 229.2lbs. Mostly lost in the last week or 10 days I'd say. Just cut way back on booze and carbs. I do an exercise program for my back but It's not that intense tbh.)

I was down $3 not counting rake back so I made a small profit overall. I am not unhappy about this as I feel I am improving my play bit by bit. I'm also trying not to focus on results but good decision making and plugging some very big leaks.

I've been using Snowie app a bunch since I got it and it's been really valuable. I highly recommend it for others who are struggling at the small steaks at least. It's so helpful to go through hands and see what they recommend. When you have a leak you see over and over and they correct it, it makes it so much easier to understand why. At least for me anyway.

I found out that preflop I'm quite strong but the rest of the streets not so much. At all. It's great news for me as I have so much room to improve.

Anyway, I'll end this post with

1. Play 40,000 hands.
2. Use Snowie before every session to review trouble hands from previous session.
3. Continue to read Grinders Manual.
4. Mediate 5 mins before every session.

Personal Goals:

1. Lose 5lbs (current weight 229.2lbs)

Argggh. I just finished the big 22 in 36th place for $35. I won a $2 sat to get in.

I got my last 16 blinds in preflop with QQ vs A6s and A8o. Ace on the river and I'm out. I would have been chip lead or close to it. Ah well, it was nice to go deep in a 700+ person tournament. The cash study has helped my tournament game big time.

Anyway current roll is now: $256.66

Well had a good day today. I was off so got in over 2K hands. I started out playing 2NL still as a warm up then went up to 5NL. With my roll now the plan was to play 5NL (8 tables no zoom) but I had a weird nervousness about it. Probably normal I assume as I want to do well so bad. Probably worried about losing if I'm being honest. I know the player pools are super similar but it was a bit of a barrier none the less. Once I was playing for a bit I was ok.

I am finally getting it through my head to fold marginal hands on the turn and river. It should be easy but for some reason it's taken time. Getting there.

Well I work Sat's unfortunately so just played a few tournies tonight. So far I'm break even. I only play $2 or less bi's. I've been playing tournaments for "fun" at night although I'm trying hard obv it's not my focus.

I decided to try and make some Kombucha last week. It's brewing now. There was a good size scobie in a bottle I got so I searched the weeb and found what to do. I hope. Seems to be coming along nice. I just made some black tea, cooled it and added a cup of sugar and the scobie. I should have had a bigger bottle with a big opening but whatever. I guess to carbonate it I should add it to some juice for another few days they say. Hopefully it doesn't kill me.

Played a few late tournaments. Broke even more or less. Going to get up early to grind tomorrow though.

Current roll:$276.50 (still in one last tournament though so hopefully we cash decently high)

So that last tournament was the deep stack 2.20 and i ended up taking it down! $253 for first and beat out over 700 players. It was 4am before i got to bed so im pretty groggy at work today.

I played well and ran well. I was in last place with 20 to go and still in last with 9 left. Proud i was able to focus and make good decisions.

I won some playing cash as well.

My roll should be over $520 now. I have to check when i get home. I still plan to focus on cash games and play the odd tourney at night as i have been. I have no delusions of grandeur, this changes nothing except it gives me a much more comfortable roll for 5nl. When i get the roll up to $750 ill start taking some shots at 10NL.

Thanks, i will see how it goes at 5nl. I just moved up to that and dont want to get ahead of myself. 75bi is conservitive but it gives me a good level of comfort to play my best.

I'm pretty happy with the rate of progress right now. I feel I need to structure things better though. I'm not scheduling sessions for play or study, just winging it. Doesn't seem very smart. I will adjust.



oooh. forgot I also won all three of my races! $0.75 of sweetness. Such gracious masters haha

Didn't really play this morning but after work I played some cash and some tournies. Made some cashes and placed 4th in the 4.40 Pro KO. Won $84.62 for 4th and another 32.99 in bounties. I won over $30 in another tourney with bounties.

Won a little in cash too.

So current roll is: $696.94

I'm pretty surprised by the success in tournaments as it is more just "fun time" for me. I might get a bit high and/or have a few drinks. I know I've said it a bunch but for any tournament players wanting to improve, learn cash. In my previous "poker life" I pretty much stuck to tournaments and I am much better than then. Even though I tired hard and read books etc. Learning the cash game is a far superior method to learning tournament play imo.

Now obviously I've had good luck and I'm not saying I'm a really good tournament player. Just saying that the cash study has really helped my game is all.

Was not expecting this, so really happy.

3 days off in a row now and there is a 2 day tournament in my town at a local casino and day 1C is tomorrow. Day 2 is Thursday so it works in that regard. It's a big buy in for me, $330 but I think I'll take a shot and see how it goes. Hopefully the run good/play good continues!

My online roll will not be touched of course. I treat live cash/tournaments as a separate thing.

I can't agree with this more. I was predominantly a tournament player, and after studying cash I feel much, much stronger in tournament play than I ever did before.

Got punted after 5 hours of sitting with only two pairs dealt to me. four's once and nine's once. AK twice and Aq once. other than that not ever a suited connector lol. I was down to 15bb in the big blind with KQ is how I went out. CO min raised and I shoved on him. He had AK and gg to me.

There is only one hand I think I may have misplayed is this one:

I had AKs utg and 3x'd it for 1800. It folded to the bb and he raised it to 6K. He was chip leader and solid. I decided to flat which left me with 25K behind. Flop was J brick, brick and he lead out for 9K and I folded. He showed a pair of 10's. Do you guys think I should have shoved my AK preflop when he raised? I think it's fine either way tbh. AK blocks Aces and Kings so that leaves him with QQ, AK maybe, or maybe JJ. Tens is a big stetch to be reraising the Utg that's been playing very tight imo.

That's really the only hand I would have possibly played any differently, just card dead. This is the perils of live tournaments sometimes. I wasn't even upset really, just not much I could do.

Well today is a bad day that hopefully will lead to many good days.

basically I got drunk and blew off a bunch of bi's. Why is the question.

I knew I shouldn't play and I was not getting any "pleasure" from winning hands. It's like I expected that it would take 6 months at least to get to this point and I got here early. I think maybe I sabotaged myself. Not sure why other than I feel maybe I haven't earned this success. Yes I know it's chump change. To me it's literally irrelevant as far as dollars earned. I have to look at this and decide how to move forward.

I played some tournaments today again. I accidentally reg'd the Big $22 when I thought I was reg'ing for a satellite for it. I just busted in 147th place so made some money, just couldn't get anything going late.
