Hi,

I’m a 200z regular from Belgian and I want to start a short time blog about live poker in Vegas.
I haven’t much live poker experience and didn’t play any live poker this year.
I’m curious about the hourly and if its more +EV to play live than 200z, not that I will transition
I will start off by playing 5/10$ and hopefully I can build up confidence and shoot some higher stakes.
The higher we go, the more change we have to play short handed.
Not that I’m saying that I’m an expert in short handed, but its just less boring.
I will track everything with with “poker income“ and post some HHs.

Questions:

What do you think is a good hourly for 5/10$ and what is a good sample size (in hours) ?

What are the best places to play 5/10$?

What are the average swings in live poker? probably depends a lot of on you’re play style

How do live players not get bored? any tips are welcome.
Spoiler:
Weed, lsd...dunno how they do it

Goals of the trip:

-Play WSOP Main
-Rent an American Muscle Car drive to LA and get a workout in at “Golds Gym”
-Get some cool drone stuff
-Eat the best sushi in town
-Dominate cash games`

If you have any good stuff in how to improve you’re live poker skills , you re welcome.

Grtz,
Ammadnav

dont play with regs
talk to the fish - its a must. be friendly and talkative even if you dont want to
always change your table if you can play on a better one
tip for the employees in the casinos and you wont need to wait for tables and get free food

there is no hourly on 5/10 because its 15 hands/h, live game is about luck, variance and skill, in that order. it will be boring as hell but gl

You can probably kill two birds with one stone by playing 5/10 at Wynn Poker Room (actually in the Encore) and get the best sushi at Mizumi (in the Wynn). You can just go sit at the bar, ask for the Omakase, and it will be amazing or even better get a table by the window to see the waterfall / garden.

Personally I'll be playing a lot of the daily MTTs and 2/5 NL at Wynn starting June 1st. Playing pretty deep $1500 max buy-in (whereas 5/10 is uncapped), it's enough for my B/R (as a comparison max buy-in for 5/10 at Bellagio is also $1500 and unfortunately it tends to be reg-infested and much less of a fun spot than the Wynn, which has the perfect solution for boredom at the tables: watching all the girls go to/from the beach club and the night clubs).

$90/hour would make you a relatively strong winner in the game. 2000 hours live should get you within 2bb/hour or so of your actual win rate barring any crazy unusual sessions. That said, it's virtually impossible to ever determine an accurate win rate live as the games will change too much and players will adjust to you much more than they will online before you have a relevant sample size. Your edge/win rate is fluid.

If you play a TAG style, 10 buy-ins most likely for downswing. If you're pretty lag maybe 15-20, anymore than that and you aren't adjusting enough to live play or aren't game selecting at all.

Pay attention to the game. Stay focused on every hand even if you aren't in it. Focus on maximum exploitation, not GTO.

Good luck!

ill be there aswell, based on my experience playing 5/10 in vegas, most games are full of annoying regs, and few fish. Sometimes you get lucky and get a whale or two, but games are not that great. I have heard 10/20 is better than 5/10, most regs cant play 10/20 therefore less at higher stakes and more wealthy guys punting stacks

They're talking bb/hour, bb/100 isn't really a thing in live poker

I'd agree with this any time of year that isn't WSOP. The percentage of regs looking to grind 10/20+ properly is likely infinitely higher (and the quality better with online MSNL guys in there) during the series

That being said the rec population is also higher and two of my friends who are super smart about game selection/maximising hourly were happy to grind those games all summer last year so I am probably incorrect haha

Definitely agree on this one, higher stakes would raise the focus.
I'm rolled to play them but I don't even know if I beat 2/5 live .
I guess if I take shots at 500z I should take them at 10/20 to

Spoiler:
I'm a crusher we will battle more after Vegas, if I"'m not broke.
