Feb. update
Had first losing month online and broke 14 month consecutive winning streak. Basically got tuned up at 2k, only played small amount of hands but not even sure if I belong there on these sites. Spent more time doing off the table work this month than any other month in my entire career. My ratio was around 1 hour of study for each hour played I’d guess. I’m in a group with a couple pokerstars regulars who play the same stakes as me and that has been really beneficial. Been doing mental coaching weekly and that has helped me cope with this current downswing and keeping me focused on my goals. Just started back up with getting poker coaching as well.
Changed my schedule completely. I’ve been waking up late in the afternoon and staying up all night since around 2012. This made sense since I was mostly playing against Americans and playing opposite the American work day was best. This isn’t as much the case now but since I’ve started this I have noticed that there’s less action on the sites I have access to. I’m guessing that’s bc a lot of the fish are Americans. I’ve found that its easier for me to structure my day and plan things waking up earlier even tho that shouldn’t really matter.
Started a new strength training program doing push, pull, legs then yoga and running on rest days. I’ve also started going to the gym after my poker sessions instead of before which I think is ideal. I’ve done both over the years and I find I’m more likely to push myself knowing that I can just go home and relax instead of having to work all night. Outside of poker this is my number one interest atm.
Still reading Practical programming: strength training. Finished up Secrets of the Millionaire mind which I found to be ok. Outside of him shamelessly promoting his courses within the book I think it was fine and found it beneficial. I’d happily recommend it to someone who’s already read the other best sellers in the genre and looking for more. Starting reading Atomic Habits which I’m almost halfway through and seems outstanding so far.
I’m going to just play 1k on these new sites and continue with high study ratio for the next couple weeks. I have a vacation planned for the last 10 days of the month so I may resume 2k games in April when I get back, depending on how I feel about my progress.
Some goals for 2019, will add as I see fit:
-no IM programs open during play
-no internet browsers open during play
-at least one weekly coaching session, mental or poker. I will just schedule 2 per week in case one of them needs to be canceled for whatever reason.
-keep phone in airplane mode during play
