Thanks! Good luck to you on your journey too.

Question to everyone reading:
Would you play in a home game where 7 out of 9 people smoke (like a train) if you are a non-smoking? The game is extremely juicy and I'm easily the best player there. The players are friendly and they give free food and drinks but the rake is quite high at 10% capped at 25. It's a 5/5 PLO but sometimes NLH. Min buy-in 500, max 3000. I went for a session 2 nights ago for the first time but the smoke was really horrible and my eyes were really dry after it. My clothes stink so bad too. I don't know if it is worth it anymore.

What do you all think?

Snap call, love a juicy home game.
I wish the fish around my parts played them limits.

In saying that, I'm a smoker and even when i wasn't it was never something that bothered me.

You're contradicting your previous statements.

In all seriousness, if your goal is to make poker a full time job, trying to shot take with over half of your profits is the worst way to do it. If your goal is to try to hit a lottery ticket score, then go for it, but if you seriously want to be a full time player with as high of a degree of success as possible, I suggest you re-adjust.

Find the game that you are the best at, grind it as much and as often as possible, work on your game when you are away from the table (having a full time job where you don't have people watching over you all the time is great for this), and slowly and intelligently move up stakes. When you decide to move to bigger ponds, don't just pack up and move somewhere because you think you'll like it, take an extended trip there first and make sure that the reality matches your expectations. Also, you haven't said anything about any online sessions. Why aren't you playing online?

Thanks for the advice man. I appreciate it. I can understand how my goal might seem ridiculous.

I can't beat stars at 25z. I've tried many times but I'm just not good enough or smart enough yet. But I can beat live players most of the time so I play live mainly. I also play PP poker if there is a good game going on. You are right though, I should keep studying and getting better. Will continuously update this thread with some spots to study too.

Hey good luck.!

I suggest you grind mtts online aswell to build that roll. That way, you will have gained more experience playing mtts for the aussie million. If you only grind cash to get to the 20k goal you won’t have much of a shot playing the 10k. Also consider selling some action for the 10k, thats a big buyin!

You're effectively wasting a year of your life to grind up this spare income just to dust it away in a single tournament.

I mean, if that's what will make you happy, then go for it, it's just a nonsensical decision.

I'd like to jump on the "goodluck OP train", but tbh I'd rather you hit like 17k so that you won't play and just pocket the winnings and continue to grind.

You are prob more likely to succeed hitting a million putting $20k on black/red ($1k each time for 20 shots) and letting it ride 10 times, than to grind up and win the Aussie Millions lol

Also OP, your girlfriend sounds way too whack for you to succeed at poker in any way. If she's not supportive of it, you're going to find it very difficult (and most likely a good thing that you listen to her tbh). Ain't nobody gonna "make it" playing 10-15 hours a week. Poker takes focus, commitment, sheer will... something you know very little about.

thanks man! Yeah I will grind MTTs online soon. Maybe in a couple of weeks and study them. I'm slight winner in cash games but MTTs are not my strong point! Going to have to work hard!

I got invited to the home game again last night and decided to give it another go despite the heavy smoking as the host said there's even more action this time around. It was a 5/5/10 NLH game and boy it was a good game. Rake is high at 10% capped 25 but free drinks are provided. There is a funny rule where if you win with 2-7 offsuit everyone needs to pay you 50 dollars. That really led to a lot of some crazy actions on the table! People were calling 1000 dollar all-ins with K9 and K6 suited lmao. This guy came in and called an all-in on his first hand for 1,200 with QJ offsuit.

The game started at 9:30pm and I bought it for $1,500 and was card dead for the first 2 hours then I got dealt 27 on UTG. I thought hell I have a very tight image here, so I'm going to limp raise here and take it down pre-flop if they are many limpers. So I limped, middle position makes it 100 (he's done that with low pocket pairs and J10 or QJ), 3 callers. So I reraised to 700 hoping to take it down pre-flop and win the dead money and the extra $450 dollars that I will get from winning with 2-7 off. Folds to the button, he tanks for 1 minute. My face was expressionless but deep inside I was thinking "**** me, please fold!!!!!" He ended up going all-in for another 220 and I sigh called hoping he has like KQ or something. The guy sitting next to me said "you can't possible have 2-7 right?". I nodded in shame and said yeah I have it.... Villain shows 88 and my heart sankd as I showed my absolute low nuts. The whole table erupted with shock and laughter....

Then the flop came 3 diamonds (the villain got no diamonds) and the whole table started cheering for me even though they have to pay me if I win LOL. Some people offered me 25 dollars to buy out and I said ok and took about 100 from there. The turn was a brick. Then someone grabbed the last river card and started peeling it Baccarat style. I sweated for 20 seconds and he turns over a 3 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!! I scoop the pot plus all the other 50 dollars from the other players that didn't buy out.

After that, I was card dead again but won 3 massive cooler pots and ended the night at 4:20am because I had a work the next day at 8am so wanted to get a couple hours sleep beforehand. By the end of night I was up a whopping $8200 after tipping the dealer like 70 dollars. Was the biggest winning cash session of my entire poker career!

Let's pray that the run good continues!

played a couple of short sessions this week. was up a total of +666, so i'm happy with that. Could have been better but I punted off $300 in a $1 ante Short deck game in a PP Poker club. I won't be playing that again anytime soon..... I won a small short deck tournament game last year for over $1000 and I thought I great at the game, but just realised I had no idea what I was doing and was just really lucky....

1 hand in particular that I felt that I played bad. This is a 2/5 NLH live casino game. $455 effective stack. I opened to 20 with 99 UTG+1, UTG+2 who 3 bets semi-light 3 bets to 60. Folds to me and I flatted. Flop came 258, I checked and he c-bets 40, I called. Turn came a 3, I checked, he bets 125, I called. River came A. I checked and he went all in, I had another 230 left, I tanked and found some bluffs that he might have (KQ, or KQ, or KJ, KJ). It was 230 to win 910 which means I need to be right 1 out of 4 times.... I thought that the only value hands that he would go for 3 streets would be AA, AA, AA, AK which is a total of 4 hands. He would checked back river all 1010, JJ, QQ, KK I think. So I made the call and he shows AK.....

Should I have folded river here? or maybe raised the flop/turn? Anyone have any thoughts? Would really appreciate feedback

Play a short session yesterday on 1/3 NLH at the casino. Made some money and tried to satellite into a $1,100 buy in tournament next weekend but failed.

Came out about +148 for the session after deducting the satellite buy-in.

1 of my big leaks is calling down too much on river with hero calls. I really need to stop this as it is eating into my winnings big time.

played and ran super well in a short 1/3 NLH session (+600) and then went to a home game later to play NLH and PLO and ran well there too (+1500).

I bought a super good mask (cost me $100) which filters out most of the smoke in the home game so it is more bearable now.

I've been running super above EV at the moment and just waiting for the inevitable downswing which will come eventually.... I'm scared

Played another short 5/5 PLO session in the casino last night after gym. Was not a good idea as I was impatient and called way too many 3-bets and 4-bets preflop with marginal hands 4-way or 5-way and did not connect with any boards. Sigh... was down $1,200 for the night.

Been lazy at updating this last week.... I need to be more consistent at updating!

it's long weekend here so I have Monday off and the girlfriend is away in Melbourne holidaying with her family.... which meant that I played an insane amount of poker! Almost 24 hours this weekend which is a crazy amount for me.

I've been running insanely hot in NLH but quite bad in PLO. Anyway, did like 5 sessions in the last week and I'm very happy to say.... that we have achieved our GOAL in less than 1 month! I can't believe how pure I ran. Up to the point that I fear that the downswing that will come eventually will destroy my mind.

But for now, the goal is achieved and I'm very happy about that! So what's next? I guess I will keep grinding the cash games and hopefully I can get the bankroll high enough to play more events next year in Melbourne!

Gratz on the heater.

You should come down for the smaller series, we have 3 of them throughout the year, with a bunch of $550's and then like a $1650 main. It's super soft, would recommend.
