Cheers man. Yeah of course running good to get that setup twice, but it does seem to happen to certain MTT cloud walkers on a pretty regular basis. It’s so hard to actually quantify the variance in MTTs when you can win one 80/20 for like $15 in equity and then lose another 80/20 for $15k in equity in the same tournament lmao.

GG mate, UL. I was actually trying to seat select yesterday at the start of that 1k and avoided your table...didn't want you to put me in some silly spots deep

GLGL tomorrow if you're firing away in some birds

Thanks very much mate, that’s honestly such a compliment coming from you.

Off to Rome with the wife tomorrow; so shall not be firing! Best of luck to you out there.

Yo,

I haven't had a chance to do a proper update since getting back from Rome, so I will likely just roll up a May/June update into one at the end of this month. Short version; May went really well. Won at like ~9bb across stakes at zoom and made around $7.2k there. Also, between SCOOP and a few other little binks along the way, won around another $9k in MTT land (about 65% of which I ended up having). So yeah, best month financially in a while!

Rome was a blast too. I haven't had time to get the photos off the SLR camera and touch them up, so I'll just steal the ones off of Aimee's Insta instead. Basically we did a **** load of walking and site seeing, ate lots and lots of nice pasta, pizza, anti-pasta and tiramisu. We did all the big sites; Pantheon, Coliseum, Roman Forums, Circus Maximus, Piazza de Popola, Vatican City, St Peter's Basilica, Fontana de Trevi, etc. It's such a fkn beautiful city that I actually started to get incredible building fatigue by the end of our time there. The streets are so narrow and crowded, and because it's quite a condensed city centre then every building is like 4/5 stories tall. So you have very little visibility of what's around the next corner, which leads to quite a lot of "holy **** where did that come from?" moments.

We also did a couple of fine dining tasting menus at Zia and Perpetual. Zia was brilliant, lots of really unique tastes and textures and just generally very delicious. Perpetual was pretty rubbish tbh, which was a real shame, as I'd heard great things about it. Basically nothing on the menu was standout, and like zero umami flavours in any course. It definitely felt very style over substance. Finally we joined a pasta making class on our second to last night. It was me, Aimee and then an American family of 12 who were over for a wedding in Florence. Pretty bizarre setting, but it was great fun. The chef trainers were both excellent and the pasta and sauces we made were delicious. We made a ricotta, burata and courgette flower ravioli with a sage and lemon butter sauce, and then a standard fettuccine with a pork cheek and tomato ragu type sauce. Once we have a bigger kitchen I'll definitely be buying all the gear for making my own pasta!

I will say that it's not a very relaxing holiday. It's the kind of break you come away needing another holiday to recover from. I also think that I've basically done Rome to it's fullest, so probably won't be heading back any time soon. There are just hoards of people absolutely everywhere, so you either have to get up super early, or enjoy feeling like cattle when traversing the city. Some pictures below:

Very nice month. Can relate to the building fatigue too haha - seems to happen to me every time I go on a longer trip to a city like Rome/ Barcelona.

Thanks boys, appreciate the kind words and good to know I’m not alone on the city fatigue thing!

Have played very little poker this month, as I’ve basically spent my time watching crypto markets for entries/exits 24/7. On the positive side, I’m up around $50k this year in magical internet money. Started the year with $8k in my trading account, so very very happy with how that’s gone.

Bitcoin broke above $10k pretty convincingly today. Feels like we are on the verge of true retail FOMO kicking in, but I’m also expecting a short term fib pullback. Have set some stops at around 9860, but might move them depending on how/when we get there.

I realise most people here probably aren’t interested in crypto trading blogs, so I’ll try and fire some poker and post some hands soon.

GL OP,

Any tips on where to start getting involved in the crypto space? Resources for learning how to spot good entries/exits etc. Im not a total noob and holdd a small amount of crypto but ive been looking more into trading during these bull runs because it seems like it can be very lucrative

I'd guess this isn't true. I'd bet there are a lot of poker players like me who dabble in crypto and would appreciate any insight or stories you have. Keep sharing imo.

.
Do you feel that you can outperform passive investment long term after taxes and considering you also probably have ~$100 poker hourly?

I guess you probably know by now I'm a major passive investment bull, but always interested in the counter arguments

Hi Jed,

Had a couple of PMs asking similar questions, so I guess I'll answer it here for simplicity. I don't really want to give away the exact sources that I'm using for timing trades (because the liquidity in BTC is really quite low, so the more popular certain TA becomes it has a way of self fulfilling and the risk of getting front run by whales grows exponentially (whales as in market makers with deep pockets, not in the tradition poker sense)). What I will say is that if you're seriously interested in trading BTC, then there is a wealth of good free info on R/Crypto and Youtube. You just need to be willing to wade through the mountains of ***** to get to it.

There's one guy on YT in particular who's content is just miles ahead of the competition. Former NYSE market maker. If you can seek him out then you're on the right track.

Firstly, think the $100 hourly is difficult to justify unless 500z somehow starts running round the clock with good player pools. $60-80 seems more realistic.

Secondly, I'm not sure. Crypto tax is still fairly new to me, but if I understand correctly I'll be paying capital gains tax on passive investments, and income tax on trades. I'm only actively trading crypto (active as in near constant watching markets and reading/studying) during peak volatility like we have right now. I think I can likely outperform the tax differential over the short term. But whether I can outperform poker+passive investment is something I hadn't really considered.

The way I see it, I'm happy to digest as much information on the topic as I can. As it's likely a market I'd look to do something in if/when poker isn't viable or I want to move on. I think I'm happy to give up a little bit of $EV right now in order to better educate myself.

Price action in BTC has continued to be absolutely mental over the past few days. Peaking at just under $13k this morning for new 15month highs. What's really quite interesting to note, is that google trends shows bitcoin searches at a relative 20 when compared with the 2017 ATH's 100. Essentially 1/5th of the active Bitcoin searches.

Perhaps this means that there isn't actually a lot of uninitiated money entering the market right now? Maybe this bullrun is being powered by early institutional investment? I don't know, but it likely means that we haven't touched on real retail FOMO yet.

Also worth noting that we are within $1200 of what would be considered the 1% of expected moves when considering the 50-300 day moving averages. I know Bitcoin doesn't exactly conform to traditional market theory, but I am fairly confident we will be getting a pullback in the not so distant future. How much damage bitcoin can do to the price before that point remains to be seen, but if you can time it right it could be a great opportunity to load up.
