Trip Report -BKK Trip & Songkran

Since I'm mostly twiddling my thumbs today now that I can't play, figured I may as well update ya'll on what I've been doing non-poker related.

Few weeks back I head to BKK to visit a friend who's passing through Asia. One of my best mates from way back in high school. Anyway, I arrive in Khaosan road thinking that was the GTO BKK place to be, but at 5pm it was ***** dead and **** and so I asked my room mates where you're actually supposed to go to party in BKK? Apparently soi cowboy and nana plaza are the nuts I was told so we tuktuk from Khaosan to soi cowboy (500 baht gg).

Regarding the poker apps, for somebody not being really familiar with the apps it looks like that the boom is over. Regional restrictions, PKA banning players for collusion/botting, increasing fees, etc.

Would you say it is still +EV to play there or are the risks not worth the rewards? Whats with new players would you suggest to still jump on the train?

They're 100% the highest EV games to be playing in, just a bunch of added hoops to jump through that some people don't like.

Pretty sweet month this month for many reasons. I just finished up playing now and saw HEM tick over 150k CNY for May which is $30k AUD pre-rake, my biggest month ever results-wise. All of the volume played was 5/10/20, so +75 buyins and +56 odd on EV I'm pretty stoked with.

I also played almost every day this month too, despite the low volume - the 2nd of May I had to swap clubs due to a conflict with a banker on a previous club, and then I think I didn't play any poker on the 23rd because of power outages. But I got myself into a really solid routine where I'd play poker every single day and study every single day, and the improvements I've made this month have been astronomical. I started writing a Google Doc at the end of Feb with my daily off-table work in it and it's now over 200 pages in length.

Gym has been going great guns as well - my deadlift max is now at 187kg; attempted 200 about a week ago and couldn't move the ****. My other lifts, notably dumbbell bench has gone through the roof too, and I'm finally able to squat heavy again with not much knee/hip pain which is really cool. I'm slowly starting to notice abs now too, something that's really never happened before. I've managed to increase my strength numbers this month while losing fat extremely slowly. So I'm in a really good spot at the moment.

Basically, I've gotten bigger, stronger, leaner, way better at poker, and made a ****load more money this month than I have done in any other month of my life. And I've also finished 3 books off this month too (7 Habits, Deep Work, Grit) and have now begun Covey's 8th Habit. Really, the key to such a great month for me has been a relentless consistency bordering on celibacy. And by that I mean, I've hit the gym every day, played 5-6 hours of poker every day, studied for 1+ hour every day, gone to bed on time every day, not slept in past my alarm every day, not gone out drinking or feasting on pizza etc (slipped once on the pizza front, shouts pizza hut). It's really amazing what you can do when you're not out partying like a mad man every other week - as Pav and chicago joey noted in a recent podcast, when you go out drinking/partying on the weekend, you lose not only that day, but the following day to recovery, and then a third day to dust off the cobwebs, and then maybe a 4th day til sleep schedule and everything is back to normal. So having cut out partying completely has been amazing - these past few days I've slept like a baby each night which, even though I was complaining about not being able to fall asleep a week ago, is a good sign.

So obviously not going out partying while living in Pattaya takes its tole on you, so I decided that I'd go out once a month for a crazy bender and that day is tomorrow, a day I've been looking forward to for ages now. The 2/8 is a glitch from PKA which is basically any 2/4/8 hand where someone had posted a big blind, somehow fks it up. Note the winrate at 51020 is higher than it was at 2/4/8, largely because of the massive improvements I've made towards the end of my 2/4/8 -start of 51020 career.

Also for those that don't know, the winrates need to be halved as the games involve straddles. Rake and insurance not included either but it's fairly low 5% on this site ATM.

Hands per hour for me has been around 250 because I'm only 4 tabling, and occasionally 3 tabling. Last two days I've pretty much exclusively 3 tabled. So even though I've played almost everyday this month, I've only played 30k hands or so because I've been playing with maximal focus on 3-4 tables as opposed to autopiloting 8 tables.
