September

Another pretty sweet month for me poker wise, started the month off basically shotting 500 (although I've played the equivalent before on apps) and a week later was shotting 1k. Wasn't exactly my plan to play 1k so quickly but a few hours after a coaching session we did early on in the month, my coach messages me saying 'you might think I'm crazy but since you're running well and playing so well, now is the time to shot take 1knl'. I've always been a pretty big BRM nit but decided this guy knows more than me about these stakes and actually moving up through them, so I said I'd do it. He told me to just take a 2BI shot once the bankroll hit 30k, and a few days later the BR was at 30k and so I jumped into 1k and never looked back! Obv not the best to run 9k under EV but I'm pleased I still made money.

Revision to volume/bodyfat goal

So I said like a week ago I was keen on chasing down 10% bodyfat by the end of the year as well as playing 7 hours a day everyday. Within a week I'd pretty much thrown out the 7 hours a day everyday thing. On paper 7 hours a poker everyday doesn't seem like a ton, but with an hour's study, and many other things like coaching and gym and sleep to balance, I find there's just way too much pressure on me to play and the benefit of doing so doesn't seem obvious to me anymore. What's best for me is to focus on the study/coaching stuff and still play 5-6 hours a day everyday which will take a lot of the pressure off and it just seems like it's way more in line with my goals atm. Still will be attempting the 10% bodyfat though!

Bender

End of month celebrations were pretty wild this month. Was planning on taking today (monday) off but decided since people were drinking on Saturday for AFL grand final, I was going to have a beer with the lads and hang out for a bit. Decided to move the pissup forward and basically was drinking from like midday on Saturday, a bunch of us went out, I have no recollection of where we went or what happened but pretty sure I had a sweet time. Anyways I bring a girl home at like 6am and instead of going to bed me and the coach decide to have a few more beers in the jucuzzi and just hang out/chat. We ended up drinking beers/breezers in the jucuzzi from like 5am til 5-6pm on the back of a sleepless night and decide the best possible thing to do at this point is to go back out and turn it into a 2 day bender which I am currently trying to recover from. Going to spend tomorrow sorting my life out and easing back into things and then two days from now get the head back down and to work.

May be stopping updating this thread shortly as well, will try do a great big write up referencing this tomorrow.

Gl for October to all the grindas

thnx, i just sit and play as long as there's at least one fish or badreg at the table, if nothing at 1knl ill try the same at 500 and if no obvious marks on those games ill try 500nl FR and if nothing still ill play 200 and if i cant find a mark there i just give up instead of playing

Do you mind showing your red line + wwsf? Curious how it looks.

Btw does your coach like your QJo hand?

Hello,

I guess you already said the reason but I'm new to the thread, why do you prefer the normal table format instead of zoom?

Cheers man, I appreciate it. I will defo update at the end of the year but I don't think even doing monthly updates is doing me any favours atm - I'll reveal why once I do a proper writeup about mental game shortly.

We've not officially reviewed it yet but I mentioned it to him in the jucuzzi after about 15 beers and at least drunk him seemed to like it!

Wow this is insanely impressive Meale. Followed you a couple of years ago but missed out on how far you've come. Im sure you're proud as hell of your achievement what a boss.

What helped you the most to get to where you are, would you say?

Anything specific, a course or so, to study?

Big congrats man. Truly fascinating.

get a coach and play in incredibly soft games.
10-01-2019 , 06:22 PM
someone sounds jelly
10-01-2019 , 08:22 PM
huh? stating facts is jealous?

Im sure he will admit his knowledge of strat was dreadful. Then he got a coach and has likely improved a bunch. Thats what getting a coach does.

He also plays soft sites? Asian apps -> ignition normal tables.

None of this is a dig to him or anything lol.

Hey mate, appreciate the kind words. To answer your question, the answer is very specific and twofold. Obviously game selection should be a given - if you're just swinging your dick around vs regs in tough games, you're not somehow righteous or superior for doing so, especially if you have access to softer games. IMO it's an extremely bad approach if you call yourself a professional.

To answer your question, I invested in a coach at the start of the year and since that point have done sessions at least once a week and recently we've been doing longer and more frequent sessions. The second part of my answer is that I've been spending a good hour every single day, 7 days a week (excluding when I'm drunk obviously) studying. I started a workbook at the start of the year basically logging all my findings from study sessions and it's now over 500 pages in length. I'd also say less than 5% of the time I've spent studying this year has been in Piosolver.

The point I want to make is that hiring a coach alone isn't going to cut it really. I know guys who have the same coach who think just doing coaching sessions is enough, but they don't progress very far/fast. It's basically a symbiosis of getting coached regularly as well as studying/going after it yourself that is where I think the money is. I've had coaches in the past and I've studied in the past but never really got anywhere til I married them together in the way I have lately.

I'd also say my study methodology is pretty unique compared to most. When a poker player says they're 'studying' what does that even mean? It could mean all sorts of different things. Most of what I do is analysing my thoughts. Thoughts control behaviours and behaviours control which buttons you click. When you see a flop or get a particular turn card, a bunch of thoughts appear very quickly in your mind and they all fight for your attention. What most of my study is about is examining these thoughts, figuring out which ones to prioritise, which ones are just plain wrong, and looking at the order that they appear etc. I basically prune my thoughts, rearrange them, and try to teach my brain to think the revised, efficient and accurate series of thoughts the next time I see that flop or turn spot or whatever.

So yeah tl;dr get a really really good coach and then work really hard.
