Whats happening boys and girls,

basically newcomer on here, My names Patrick Brooks and originally come from London but now living in |Monterrey in Mexico. I play as thebigdog09 on Pokerstars and dotcotton1939 on party. And been donating 40k as omgpatbrooks on fkn 888. Been playing for pads and co at BITB for last 3 years or so and formerly a coach and mentor for the development part of the stable.

lil bit of Background

Originally I left school at 16 but was still crap at poker at this point so went into Tennis coaching after playing at a decentish level as a kid. after like 4 years of making poker economy a lot healthier, ran a million miles above ev and found a stable that were willing to take a punt on me. joined Pocarr and have nothing but great things to say about them as a stable. Great support and great people and Robtinnion one of the real heroes in poker. Was still unbelievably bad but made some money and made switch to Pads1161 stable in late 2014. Pretty crazy to think at the start was just me and gil3000 who also has PGC thread and is one of my best friends in poker to see where it started and how it has progressed is pretty crazy. So after being super pumped to join huge stable gave it my all and promptly lost for the whole year

2016 picked up a bit for me and 3 years of hard work made me stronger and more confident. Moved to Costa Rica in april of this year with one of my best mates and had absolute whale of a fkn time. Probably cant tell too many of the stories in here in case my mum or dad have a butchers at this. I lost a chunk of money but was still brilliant. Had pretty insane Wcoop getting my 2 biggest scores of my career in space of a week. Ended up living in Malta for abit, did the whole Barcelona Prague live grind and had a right laugh but still was not happy with where i was and wanted so much more for poker.

Not sure if anyones even still reading at this point but il keep going for the troopers out there. 2017 moved to Mexico in January with Jonaj10 top top guy and ended up falling in love with a Mexican girl and basically never left. Lived in Playa for 4 or so months (shoutout Little Kraut guy should have a statue built of him in Playa and shout out American Pat if you know you know!) after Playa went back to London to see family chill for abit before going back to live in Monterrey with my misses and her 5 year old daughter. Its without doubt one of most beautiful places ive ever been and my misses isent bad too but Its definetly huge culture shock as theres not 1 gringo for like 200 miles but its interesting and think opening eyes to different ways of life having to adapt and change is important for anyone that sits in front of a screen 60 hours or so a week.

right enough of that, lets get back to the thread. main reasons for starting this blog is want some actual accountability with goals i set and Im going to be completely honest in this. All huge punts going to be included, all blow up rants not going to hold anything back in this blog. Main hope is that this blog going to get me to start owning my ****, start taking responsiblity and actually get to where i want in poker and in life. Us grinders deep in the back of our minds are all aware we have finite time in this game and i just been treading water for way too long. And with games getting tougher, stars willingness to make life as hard as possible for regs its harder then ever.

Time to start delivering and either **** or get off the toilet so to speak. Would be awesome to be able to look at this in a years time and be able to see how much Ive progressed and to look back and be proud of my work.

Goals from now till end of 2018
-$200k clear profit for calendar year. 2017 i am probably going to finish on around $110k up give or take so looking to AT LEAST double that next year. yeah i know about money oriented goals not being GTO but for me if the process is in the right place then even if i dont achieve it I can say i have given it my all and be at peace. By setting a goal that will change my life gives me much more motivation, the process is what i care about and if i hit the goals to help me get to the 200k.

-top 10 pocket fives top of Uk rankings (currently like 80th or some ****) everything i did as a kid, its a cliche but i wanted to be the best. Second might aswell have been 5th. Also for my parents who were pretty against poker actually have some ranking systems and being high in that would be pretty nice to show them and have some justification for what i do. Also had enough of the rankings and seeing 10 Swedish flags and want to see some British flags in there again. Its pretty tough as dont play any High stakes turbos and anything above $1ks atm but thats going to change boys!

-100% focus during grinds, think as us grinders so so easy to think we focusing 100% but in reality we are far from it. If i have one table that is 530bb or the b22 my focus is just not the same at the moment and its main area i am aiming to fix this year. My A game is good but not able to play it enough or for long periods

-10 hours self study a week (aswell as group coachings from the fine gentleman at bitb on top of that) hard with misses and kid and finding balance but surely 2 hours a day 5 days a week is achievable.

-be better boyfriend and step dad, will post some updates on here with this and how its going. I am by no means a relationship expert il tell you that for free but anyone having problems hit me up!

-Gym 4 days a week. this seems like its everyones goal but no excuses. this big one for poker and life in general, if i go under 3 times 2 weeks in a row I will send $300 to REG charity. And $100 every time i dip under 4.

Cheers for the love boys (L) after firing myself up, making this post up and really being pumped, in an unrivalled show of professionalism took the next 3 days off

wednesday night had christmas do with the boys, obviously with living in monterrey and working the graveyard shifts actually keeping in touch with non poker friends gets tougher and tougher. But its nice i still got the same group of mates from school that im still in touch with go on holiday every year etc. only had a couple beers and called it a night at 10:30 ***** el i must be getting old. i got out just before they went onto shall we say gentlemans club? yeah wel go for that

then last night sht just hit the fan and sprayed all over the room. Went for a little housewarming for a v good friend of mine in poker whos recently brought a 4 bed gaff in Reigate. 3 of us popped down to check it out at around 5pm. What was meant to be few drinks and bit of food got completely out of hand the sesh was still going v strong at 9 in the morning when IKEA came with some stuff for the place and the look on the guys face when he sees 2 20 something poker players passed out on the floor with about 4 empty litre russian standard bottles I am absolutely steaming at this point want to just get this guy out but obviously hes friendliest courier in the world so end up chatting for longest 20 minutes of my life prob done with alcohol til at least 2019

got like 2 hours sleep in the end and went up north london to watch arsenal liverpool at the emirates stadium. What a place it is the size of it you just dnt get an idea on tv but absolutely packed its seriously impressive. arsenal themselves though were pony first half Mane, Salah were having absolute party. Second half when liverpool went two up was getting so pumped for Arsenal Fan TV (anyone that dont watch this get on it right now) but somehow arsenal woke up and pulled it back. Watching ozil live and Coutinho aswell is just unreal, movement first touch they just class above everyone else. no way hes still at arsenal next year. Sanchez looks like he left 4 weeks ago.

even after starting this blog, dont feel tooooo bad about having 3 days off as back in london for christmas for first time in over 5 months and it is christmas after all? Games so amazingly soft but you gota find that balance sometimes, probably dont need 14 hour drinking sessions but you live and learn boys. going to watch rest of godless on netflix and get some sleep before back to the grind tommorow, could not be more pumped to play some cards will do full update in here. Prob skipping sunday but will see if i can swing it with my family

Just finished the first day back grind overall pretty disappointing grind. Dropped around like 2k but overall focus was pretty good and think i played solid B game most of the day. Cannot think of almost any complete butchers so thats fairly good.

had like a 12th in the Party weigh in PSKO which was annoying. had absolute heaps 18 left Lost pretty big pot b vs b on 10d 7h 3d Qd 4h were i raised flop bet twice to get shown q10. Then hit the showers after losing 3 smallish flips

had another lovely 12th in bigbrawl 2 like 10 minutes ago, losing 40bb flip or w.e to bust and generally running bit bad. One ridic hand from this

Qc river, think his range is pretty weak on river Kx+ bets turn always I think and even alot of qx going to bet turn (qj q9 etc) but unblocking any pairs and people just dont want to fold when fd misses bet like 80% pot. He puts it in my eye in 3 seconds ahhhhhhh

obv theory wise its snap and shrug called in game but think its actually way closer then it looks. People v v rarely cap their range and smash it in on rivers (not capped on river as he can have aj but turn for sure) and in general when regs check a street they just dont bluff enough. its hard for him to have worse value hands as Q10 prob doesent jam vs 80% sizing on river QQ may check flop and KK but so few combos of just those hands. His bluff freq might be 0 in psko aswell especially when he jams after 4 seconds. If i am jamming JJ or w.e here I need those 10 seconds to get my balls together and fire

but having said all that he can have some worse combos for value, chop vs at least a few j9s and we cover in psko just shrug and call it off prob best, unfortunately he checks ajdd on turn which I think should just bet/call but dont matter i guess..

Ah made one pretty huge error in $530 BB HR where i called my friend Koss off on 863 with 99 in a spot where he just has QQ+ one of those spots where you feel ok calling in game then 10 seconds later it hits you how punty it was shoutout Koss(L)

Probably going to be the best sunday in like 3 years tommorow games will be insaneeeeee but my mum will prob lose her sht if i sit and start regging. So probably going to have to sit there playing fkn monopoly and trivial pursuit all night but family got to come first. Maybe fire 2 hour late reg on mill though we will see what happens (L) If not tommorow 90% monday and 100% tuesday

one thing just remebered from the session was pretty funny actually bubbled Uppercut kick off earlier, Bryan Paris opens cut off off 15 look down at '88' pile it in. Look 2 minutes later actually jammed q8o of all the guys you can misread your hand vs so so so bad to do it close to the bubble but comeon why bparis!???

got full session in today somehow and games were absolutely sick, think had 5 fish on warm up table. Pretty brick sunday dropped like 2k but overall happish with how i played. Had 7th in counterpunch on party losing KK<AJhh for like chip lead pot aip but its all good.

had a few interesting spots wil get back to grind and post tuesday. No shots yet sorry boys

Just busted last tournament of the day got to say what a ****ing day! dropped like a 1k but got to take my hat off to party put a full sunday schedule up on a monday **** ton of 215s and 109s all with some decent guarentees. Had absolute blast today and felt pretty good in my game made one really huge mistake in the $500 winter series on stars but apart from that felt pretty confident all day.

came like 20th in the party title fight warm up 3bet called some canadian melt with 10s for like 26 bbs btn vs co somehow he jams aces?????? pretty ridic unless he thinks i have 0 bluffing range or im a giant nit. Seem like i have about 100 20th places on party in last 3 months on Sundays, encouraging to keep getting runs but at same time getting to 3 tables left then just snap losing all ins is just as disheartning

pre flop obviously fine but think flop is pretty clear fold 3 way. I thought vs small sizing and villian had cbet of like 18/18 lol we get to peel one but just too hard to get to showdown/dead vs value range

i think as played my hand not bad as a bluff on the river, dont really want to block some folding range but nt any other hands i get to river with here. the 3bettor checked super quick on turn (like 3 seconds) and i think his Kd hands at least consider betting turn and given sb flatting range has very few high diamonds by the river (maybe QQd Aqd and these may even block river themselves) thought jam river gets through over 33% of the time. Plus pretty hard for me to have many stone bluffs as I should just fold flop with my hand. Not sure what freq people just sigh call Qd Jxd on river but for their whole stack its pretty tough with pure bluffcatchers.. his hand obv fine call

something i struggle with after running huge bluffs is the next 20 minutes i lose my confidence abit, and it always hurts in top of buy in range to torch a bunch of EV but recovered fairly quick and was back in the zone within 10 minutes.

busted the 215 mini ST in like 180th a second ago, Dsmunich gunna dsmunich but going to run some pre flop spots, put some more work into my limping strategy then get some sleep for tommorow

Interesting reads. Im going to keep trying to check in, I like your story so far. Im an aspiring grinder myself and Im looking to set some reasonable, tangible 2018 poker goals for myself. Id like to stream on twitch, possibly by years end?
