I like the vlog. It was entertaining to watch. Looking forward to seeing more in the future!

Are you going to do an end of year review soon?

In the AK v. QQ hand you said you have a range advantage, which is only partially true (V is more likely to have JJ than you as the raise/caller and you 3! from the BTN so theoretically your range should be wider), and then you go on to cite this as a reason to 3! jam.

Problem is, V c/r you otf knowing you could have AA or KK (which, remember, you don't have). This is an easy fold imo. Expecting sets a lot here. And c/r from rec players are extremely nutted in my experience. Not "feeler" bets at all. (Donks into the pfr are usually middling strength hands.)

Also, you never mentioned what position V raised from. I'm assuming EP since there was a caller in between. So in actuality you both have pretty strong ranges, except he has JJ more than you do.
Hm I agree with the analysis. Reflecting not this hand I think it was a bit of a torch and I should've folded hahaha.

Happy New Year
I've just got my hands on the grinders manual. Will definitely so some reading over the weekend, thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks, 6! I was going to do an update on 2p2 but think I might make a video instead. Will be capturing the entire poker journey including my 2018 results, and goals for 2019, stay tuned!

Won't have time to make a video in the next few days due to celebrations, so will do a 2p2 update for now.

December update: Bankroll $43,500

Played 45 hours of live cash this month, which is probably my highest volume month as I've been on break from work this month. I also played a bunch on the apps and lost some money. I feel that trying to film hands and worry about that takes away my concentration from the game and will be something I need to work on.

I've been putting in a tonne of volume in the MTT labs via RYE to try and gear up for the Aussie Millions which is just over 2 weeks away!

Yearly review

This was what I had written at the start of my PGC for 2018

So that’s my poker Journey so far. I intend to continue to grind recreationally for the remainder of the year. With a volume goal of playing 50k hands by the end of the year. I am currently on 13k hands for the year, beating the 2/4 game at 10.8bb/100. I also have set goals of playing at least 5 live MTT’s this year.
Originally I wanted to play 50k hands on PM, which is about 250 hours of poker for the year. I wanted to beat the game for 10bb/100 which is 20k in profits. Instead, I made the switch back to live poker after a pretty tough downswing, lost ~10k AUD in 3000 hands at 2/4.

Stats for the year:
- 1/3 Crown: 32.5 hours -$141
- 2/5 Crown: 185.25 hours +$18,761
- Home games: 13 sessions across various stakes +$908
- Live MTTs / Satellites: 25 entries across different stakes +$5,864
- Apps: -$9,914

My bankroll went from $28,000 to $43,500. I'm happy with the end results, especially considering I started the year off with a huge downswing.

So things have been going well on this front, I've managed to move to a part time contract in the beginning of 2019. I will be taking every Friday off, and will be taking 2 weeks of leave every 2.5 months. I plan on putting in more volume across sportsbet and poker, and really try to run it up in 2019. The plan is to make promotion to Senior Consultant by late 2019 and then take a gap year in 2020 to see if I enjoy gambling full time.

2019 Goals
I'm setting a volume goal of 800 hours of poker, which to me is very ambitious as it is pretty much my entire poker volume up to this point. I also intend to put in at least 3 hours of study every single week, and this will mainly be going through courses (RYE, RIO, Upswing, PokerDetox).

I also want to continue to grow my social media, put out more content on Instagram and Vlogs on Youtube. I am thinking of uploading a Vlog at least once a month, with everything else going on this is probably the most I can manage for now.

Thanks for tuning in!

On the face of it gg wp.

On the other hand circa £8.5K for the year is peanuts for someone in your profession (hell, its peanuts for me and I'm way less qualified and positioned than you are )

I can't see how full-time gambling is going to be either more profitable, or more fulfilling, than being a Senior Consultant at a Big Four company?

How come you don't just stick to playing poker recreationally for a side income?

You can study/beat the game just as effectively as a rec, despite what some so-called regs on here would have you believe.

Very fair question, one that I think many people will ask when I finally decide to tell the world I’m quitting my job haha.

I probably put in like ~20% of the volume compared to if I played full time, so if scaled I would probably make ~60k a year (conservative 1500 hours @ $40 an hour). Also I’m making similar / slightly more money sportsbetting which I plan on also scaling once I quit my job. So combined, I can conservatively crack the 6 figure mark a year.

I’m part of the FIRE community (Financially Independent Retire Early). I’d really recommend you look into it, this concept can change all our lives in the most positive way. Essentially with this earning potential, coupled with a very high savings rate I can manage to be financially free by my mid 30’s (or by 30 if things go well and I’m aggressive with the grind) and theoretically never have to work again. So if I’m only going to be in the workforce for the next ~6-10 years, I don’t really see the point in grinding the corporate ladder, I’d rather try and live life on my own terms.

Poker / SB full time probably isn’t something I’m going to love, but it’s definitely better than working a 9-5. I could be wrong and be miserable after a year, but I owe it to myself to at least try rather than always wonder what could've been. I can always go back to working a normal day job and I’m completely okay with that if gambling full time isn’t for me.

Happy to chat more about FIRE to anyone reading this via DM’s, it’s my #1 passion :’)

I'm a big fan of Mr money mustache when it comes to financial independence. He also wrote about the Fire movement pretty recently, interesting article ( http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2018/...fire-movement/ ). Good to see that you're already working at becoming financially independent while being so young, I would advice on investing a significant amount of your money in low cost index funds, but you're probably already doing that. Good luck at the Aussie millions, take it down.

Good post that you linked, would recommend people read it!

I follow the Aussie firebug and strong money Australia since we have different tax laws in aus. I actually don’t have anything in indexes atm, the plan is to build my real estate portfolio whilst I have a job so I can take advantage of leverage. Then once I’m “unemployed” in the eyes of the gov, I’ll move into investing in high dividen yielding indexes (mainly VAS) so I can take advantage of the franking credits (:

Mid January update - Aussie Millions

It’s been a busy month, the Aussie Millions has officially started and Crown is becoming extremely busy! It’s been cool to see pros walking around, there seems to be a large contingent of German crushers roaming the floors which has made the 2/5 cash games definitely tougher. The MTTs has been soft so far, probably averaging 3-4 good regs per table.

I’ve bricked 2k in main event satellites and fired two bullets into the $1150 opening event. I’ve put a bit of cash volume in and am up a little bit which helps subsidize the pain.

Intending to play 1-2 more satellites and then firing into 2-3 more side events. Brings my total MTT buyins to around 10k if I brick everything. Lets hope I can channel some run good and bink a nice score!

Come say hi if you’re around (:

I float in the same area a few months every year. I know what you mean about being inspired to travel more, I've been back in the US for a few months and I'm already starting to feel the urge to book another trip. GL in 2019!

Sigh... 600 runners in a $550 + $200 add on main event satt
34 tickets paid we busted 58th in a flip

Weird spot I had
70 left, average stack 15BB:
EP jams 7 bigs
SB jams for slightly less
Both are tight players
We cover both with 66 in the big blind. We have like 22 big blinds
Getting 2.5:1 roughly. Call or fold?

I think if we call and win we are a lock for a seat almost, and if we lose I have like 15 BB left. I think this spot was close but I decided on a fold and to pick up a better spot.

If the stacks sizes you describe are accurate and I'm closing the action I'm calling all day long. It's practically a freeroll.

Idk I thought there was a good chance I was drawing to two outs. When SB rejams there they should be pretty tight. Calling and losing puts me in a pretty gross spot after. Not super familiar with satts though so I could be wrong. Anyways I was up against 4 overcards and we would’ve binked the set.

This is the only response re 6b I’ll answer on my thread, no derails pls.

Sent him my resume as a template a fortnight ago. He hasn’t reached out about needing help finding a job since so I’m assuming he’s okay in that front.

I haven’t seen him around Crown, he hasn’t been playing poker as far as I know. Been playing a lot of chess the last time I spoke to him.

January Update - Bankroll: $36,600

Fired into 8 events total, and bricked everything for a -$9750 loss for the series. Battled with a tonne of crushers and well known pros, learnt a lot and had plenty of fun. Excited to continue hitting the MTT labs and come out firing in the next series which should be around May!

Flying to Japan next week for a short holiday, theres an APT event on in Tokyo so I may fire a few of their events if I find the time.

Going to be back on the cash game and sportsbet grind once I get back in March. We will #rebuild.

Quick update Feb update - No poker played

Just got back from Japan, I did not play any of the APT events because it turns out they weren't giving out cash prizes for any events. Due to the gambling regulations in Japan, they were only able to give out tickets / flights / hotel stays for their other APT events.

This has been a high volume weekend, I put in 2x8 hour sessions on Friday and Saturday. We won like $450 across the two sessions, the 2/5 games have been terrible this weekend. It's pretty much 7 regs and 2 recs, if action continues this way I may see myself playing 1/3 when there are no good 2/5 tables running.

I'm going to be firing the monthly 1.1k event this afternoon, hopefully we run okay! Aiming to play at least 2x8 hour sessions a week for the foreseeable future. For more regular updates check out my instagram @the_wholesome_reg

100 hour challenge - Week 1

The Crown Poker Championships is coming in about 6 weeks, and I’ll be firing in 3*$550 + 2*$1650 which brings my buyins to about 5k. I thought it’d be a bit of fun to start a volume challenge and try to play 100 hours of live poker with a profit goal of 5k before the series starts.

Week one went really well, it was a long weekend so we were able to put in 23 hours and we won $2,224. We took our first shot at the 5/5 because there were a few recs that made for a soft line up. Games are much tougher than the 2/5, there is way more 3betting pre, and regs are super aggressive post. Plan is to add 5/5 to the regular rotation whenever the game isn’t too tough.

Will update again next week! (:

Ps: We absolutely bricked the 1.1k monthly, we lasted two hours and didn’t win a single hand.

100 hour challenge completed!

Finished off the last 15 hours of my challenge with a nice win. Did play one interesting hand that I think we could've got away from.

2/5/10 ($500 eff)

Good reg opens $30 UTG+1
We 3b red AA UTG+2 to $90
V calls

Flop ($180) comes QK2ssx
V checks I bet $65 he makes it $140 we just flat

Turn ($420) comes 9s and it goes check check

River ($420) comes a brick and he jams $270 and we sigh call
V shows AJss

I think the flop can play as either a flat or a jam given the SPR. I elect to flat to keep some of his bluffs in, I am planning on calling off on most turn cards. I would jam if the turn bricks out and V checks. OTR I feel like V has far too few natural bluffs, as JT & all spades got there, so I should probably be folding. In game I convinced myself he'd bet AK here, not sure if they're choosing to check raise that OTF.

Taking a 2 week break to hit the MTT labs and then will be firing 5k worth of events at the CPC! #prayforbink

I'd recommend playing some low stakes mtts online. It's good prep for live ones. I think your cash game hands are fine but you play wayyyyyy too loose in mtts.

How many poker tables are there at the crown? What's the max buyin on 2/5/10? Does something like this screenshot exist for the poker room?

Yep I'm planning on playing some low stakes on Iggy just to get some hands in. I actually think I'm playing too tight in MTT's, theres a lot more opening & cold calling based off RYE / Upswing courses which I'm currently definitely not doing.
An example of this illustrated below:

Nothing like what you've screenshot unfortunately.

At a given time (after work hours) there are probably:
7-10 x 1/3 tables
2-4 X 2/5 Tables
1 5/10+ table

Probably expect half of those tables during 9am-5pm weekdays.

It's actually just a 2/5 $500 max buy-in table, but it's pretty easy to encourage the game to become a 2/5/10 so I usually do that once I am deep enough.

Mid CPC update - 2 events 2 cashes!

We decided to max late reg the $300 accumulator and managed to make a semi deep run, cashing for $775. Played a hand where I folded AK on KQ9 against a nitty recreational that crippled me (they showed JT). Ended up jamming 9BB UTG A4s and ran into QQ

Next up was the $550 Deepstack, had a super tough table with a bunch of the 5/10 regs on my table. Managed to get another semi deep run and busted for $1060 when I lost a few flips, and then most of my stack AQ < A6. Ran ridiculously well to get to that stage though so can’t complain. We won KK > AK on an ace high board early on and then QQ > KK someone 50 players off the cash.

Hopefully we can make a deep run in the Main coming up next weekend!
