Due to high rake and lack of action at stakes above £1/£3 I wouldn't have thought the Scottish live scene would be worth while for an online midstakes player. Glad to hear someones crushing them.

Feel like this definitely needs some expanding on... haha

Live games are just incredibly soft for anyone who's accustomed to how aggro online midstakes have gotten.

I'd imagine a £20+ hourly would be very easy in any £1/2 game for anyone that can play winning ABC poker at any microstakes level. Simply because the majority of people you'll play against will be making incredibly basic errors in every hand. I also enjoy the social aspects of live poker, and have made a few good friends through it, so even if it isn't the most +£EV decision for me at times, the +lifeEV makes up for it.

Month update

So January's done. I only played 8 days out of the month in total, and made a little over $3.1k from 17k hands online. I'm pleased with the volume overall, as I struggle to put in hours at times and I'm also happy to put a green number on the board for January, even if it's not a huge one!

I played live poker 3 times this month, and made around £1700 in total. Hourly was £120/hr which is obviously a decent upswing.

Still reading TSD and Life and Death in the Andes, just about finished with the former, so will give a review on it once I have.

GL in February people

Thanks guys

I was suffering from a weird form of tilt today. Played like 1.5k hands at 200z and was winning a few buy ins, and then some reg played his hand pretty poorly vs me in like a 40bb pot and for some reason it really tilted me. Wasn't really feeling it after that, so ended up phoning a mate and meeting him from lunch and a few beers. I got a really poor sleep last night, so I'm just going to chalk it up to accumulative tiredness and hope it's not something that will bother me tomorrow.

Struggling for interesting hands to post today, so just this cooler I guess:

Yeah it makes no sense to tilt over it. I should feel good about being able to perceive an edge vs the regs in my games. The human mind is a pretty dumb, fickle thing really.

    Thanks!

Today I felt a lot better and more focused. I played around 2.5k hands of 200 zoom, but unfortunately didn't run very well. I lost $800 or so at the tables, although the EV result was less than a quarter of that.

Going for a meal, and then on to watch the football tonight with my girlfriend and another couple, so won't be doing any more work at the tables.

Lost a bit at the tables again today, pretty fair below EV for February, so hopefully will get some of that back in the coming days.

Was fortunate to win like $3.5k in MTT land today, after winning a thing. So that helps put the month solidly in the green.

Just posting from my phone, so I'll try and remember to post some hands when I get up tomorrow.

In real life terms, I was meant to be going climbing with a friend yesterday morning. But my girlfriend took both sets of keys to her work and then was in meetings all day. So because I couldn't get a hold of her, I just had to rain check and stay in all day. That kinda sucked.

          Hi, thanks!

No updates in a little while. I've just been really busy with a lot of things, I'll try and commit more often to this.

Poker has been going pretty well, I guess. Somewhat mixed emotions, as I've been playing in non-pool selected 500 zoom lobbies. Which is something I told myself not to do this year. But I've been running well and winning at a decent clip. So I suppose short term thinking; happy. Long term thinking; disappointed in my lack of discipline.

Some general thoughts on the 2/5 ecology (definite contender for 2015-16 poker buzzword of the year):

A lot of the regs there are very, very tough. I'm definitely not winning at the tougher tables that spawn. Fish:reg ratio is quite good in general from lobby scanning. But most of the fish 1 table, while the better regs tend between 2-4 tables. Thus, I think for someone like myself, 2 tabling it is probably going to maximise my hourly and allow me to play enough hands vs the weaker players in the pool to be somewhat +EV. BUT the overriding plan is still to play more 200-400 and lobby scan different sites.

I'm less incentivised to post hands from 2/5, as the player pool is a lot smaller and a good chance that most of the players at least lurk these sort of threads from time to time. The thread is going to be pretty dull without hands, so I'll try and find a compromise going forwards.

Out of the country for a week or so from today, so I'm unsure how much I'll be playing.

Month is now at roughly +$4.5k including the MTT score.

Got 3rd place in an $82 MTT thing there for $1k + bounties. Came back from 1bb at 200/400, so obviously ran pretty well in the mid stages. Was chippy at FT though, and got god-moded super hard 3-handed.

Currently on track for a good month. It would be nice to notch up a 5-figure month nice and early in the year.

I got a $100 casino bonus from Stars from the vault promotion. Anyone have any bright ideas about the most +EV way to clear it?

Got around to finishing 'The Savage Detectives' this morning. It's the most fun I've had reading fiction in a while. Contrary to the title, it's not a whodunnit/crime novel. But instead the story of the two founding members of the Visceral Realists poetry movement; and their travels across Central America, Europe, West Africa and the Middle East. The book is structured in three parts. The first and third being a series of diary entries from the perspective of Juan, the protagonist. The middle section a series of interviews, testimonials and depositions with friends, associates, family members and enemies of the VRs.

It's a messy, sprawling, muddled book. Real easy to get lost in. Ultimately it's about youth and the quick cycle of life. Some people live, others die. Some find themselves, others get lost along the way. Some settle into lives, others wander eternally.

Next on the list to read, The Grizzly Years, by Doug Peacock.

          Poker Update

Things are still going pretty well, poker wise. It's been a swingy couple of days at 400nl reg games, but the overall trend has been upwards. I queued into a really good spot at 3/6 HU yesterday, so took the shot. It didn't go very well tbh, lost 4bi or so in pretty grim spots.

500 zoom pool looked super juicy at points, so I jumped in and was fortunate to run well again. I definitely feel as if I'm playing well for the most part, but so many of the decisions (particularly rivers) are very close in equity a lot of the time. My RCE% is pretty high this year, so it's hard to say how much of it is just positive variance.

          Some hands:

          1) Had no notes on the player, so assumed rec. Still not sure

          http://www.weaktight.com/h/56bf525cd...b4609?simple=1

          2) VS HS MTT reg. This probably isn't great in a vacuum, but had some reads

Shipped a $109t this morning for $2.5k and then won a little bit at 400nl. Closing in on the 10k mark for the month now. Im taking the afternoon off now to watch this epic Super Sunday. Buzzed for Leicester romping the Premier League.

Ha, I like the spirit. $20k month would obviously be fantastic. But I'd need to run pretty spectacularly to achieve that.

Pretty gutted for Leicester really, Wasilewski should be shot for that madness in the last minute. A draw would have been a fair result over the piece. Kasper Schmeichel's save from Giroud was absolutely sensational and he didn't deserve to be on the losing side.

They've got a 2 week break with the FA cup now, so hopefully that won't harm momentum too much!

Guess I should flick in some MTTs since it's Sunday and try win an island, but I'm not really in the mood to grind through to the small hours.

Ha, thanks then. Appreciate it. Same to you!

          HH Corner

This is a fun one that happened at a UKIPT event last year.

Back story is; I've just busted a side event on the bubble. The room does that annoying applause thing while I'm walking to the cage with my bank card. I withdraw £2k and they give it to me in £100 chips, telling me that I'll get change from dealers at the cash tables.

I walk back into the card room and speak to the CRD. There's a £2/5 game with a few on the list, and an open seat at a £1/3 game. The £1/3 game doesn't look great. Lots of regs sitting and discussing HHs. But the stacks are pretty deep so I decide to take it.

As im walking over to the table, a mate of mine who I'm travelling with, hands me two Jaegerbombs. It's like 2pm. I try and refuse, but he's not having it. So I pile my chips into my hoody pocket and carry the drinks over to the cash game. Once I get there I literally just lean over my seat/table and tip £2k in big chips onto the felt. My buddy is still hanging about, so I drink one of the Jaegers to keep him happy. At this point the HH discussing regs eyes are lighting up. I look like a legit maniac punter, so decide it's probably a good spot to take advantage of this image.

Third hand at the table I pick up KQ on the button. There's a limp from an unknown in the CO and I raise to £20. Reggy looking guy call in the BB and the limper calls.

          Flop J94
It's checked to me and I continue for £45, the BB calls and the limper folds.

          Turn 2
BB checks and I v quickly check back.

          River T
The BB tanks for quite a long time before leading for £125. My chips are still just in a pile on the table. I've not stacked them yet for a combination of image and cba purposes. I think for like 10 seconds, quietly say 'all-in' and just kind of slowly push them all over the line.

The reg guy looks absolutely disgusted. He starts muttering things like 'what the fk' & 'who is this guy' under his breath. He counts and re-counts his stack - which is around £1800, so I slightly cover. Eventually he announces 'fk this guy' (apparently that means call) and throws a chip in the pot. I table my hand and he turns over JT as if it's the worst beat ever suffered.
