Was skimming through LlinusLove's old thread on here for inspiration last night and decided to play a small late night MTT session off the back of reading about his mega-heater post EPT Malta.

Obvs some of his glory rubbed off on me and I shipped a biggy on Stars for low 5-figures. Which is, disgustingly enough, only my second biggest ever tourney cash.

Reddit crypto is pretty good for up-to-date news, youtube streamers like Crypto Daily and The Modern Investor have some decent videos, Jay Smith live streams trading on twitch, etc. Just try and verify things you read in more than one source.

Balance

So I wanted to write something about maintaining a healthy poker/life balance. Not because I'm some sort of expert on the subject, but instead because I've previously gone about as far off the imbalanced deep end as it's possible to go. It's so easy to just let poker completely envelop you, especially with a personality type like mine (introvert leaning, high functioning, somewhat obsessive, ego driven). Basically my only goal 2 years ago was accumulate currency as quick as I could, at the detriment of my health, sleep, social life, fitness, weight, eating habits, etc. Before that it was online FPS', before that it was football. There's generally always been something there that I throw all my time into.

Happy to say that I've changed things quite significantly this year. I've been mindful about eating, food prepping and even briefly tried counting macros (gave that up, zzz); been in the gym 3/4 nights a week and doing yoga during session breaks; reading and writing a ton and ensuring to make loads of time for Aimee and for hanging out with friends. Generally just in a much better place mentally because of it all, and have kind of lost the massive 'chip' on my shoulder I had about not having run as good as some people in poker, or as good as I feel my input deserves.

There are bound to be some readers thinking something along the lines of 'it's easy not being overly financially motivated when you're comfortable', but for me, the bulk of these changes happened when I was in my most uncomfortable, and certainly closest to ruin spot in years. If it anything it took getting a little bit crippled to reevaluate on how good I had things and probably under appreciated them.

Online poker can be the pretty solitary, so if anyone on the grind wants to play chat then HMU. Bound to have some common interests and it's always good to expand your circle.

Agreed, I could easily see myself going down the degen currency acquisition line as well. Super easy to do if you have an addictive personality and get enveloped in things obsessively. Kind of glad I've learnt balance earlier rather than later and that money is far lower EV than happiness.

Yeah definitely to the last bit. A lot of it (for me anyway) is dependant on the people you surround yourself with too. I used to have a pretty degen crowd of poker players I spent my time with, but most of them have grown up or moved on by now as the game has evolved so much.

        Thoughts on crypto hedge funds?
I've seen a couple pop up and quite like the idea but am wary of fees and other safety issues.

I'm currently doing resets and allocations myself mainly through guestimating values just reading some of the main crypto sources.

Portfolio is heavy on bitcoin and eth, then with 20% dispersed across another 7-8 coins I like the look of.

I can see the hedges being a good investment if you are interested in day-trading without doing the legwork. Most of my trades are buy/holds long term, so paying fees for someone else to do that for me is just lazy.

If your portfolio is stacked with BTC then be careful of the up-coming hard forks into BTC Gold and Segwit2x. Good chance we see a sizeable dump before the fork, which could drive the price down temporarily. Long term I still think BTC has a long climb ahead, but depending on how much of your net you have invested, you might want to sell closer to the forks and buy again at the dip.

I don't have time to scan the whole thread atm, so I was just curious what Crypto you're holding? I currently have bags of OMG, ETH, BTC, PTOY, TRIG, BAT, GNT, 0X, IOC, XZC, Strat, PAY, and CVC. I'm hoping my portfolio will be my retirement by 40 (11 years)!

Just bought a bunch more BTC and some ETH. I'm interested in throwing a bit of cash at a few altcoins that have potential for huge returns. On my list atm I have Litecoin, Ripple, and Monero. Will probably make 10% of my portfolio on these punts in the hopes of striking it lucky somewhere down the line... Any other alts you think are worth including in here? Obv want something that's unique and has large scale application etc.

Hey. Honestly I don't know enough about a few of the coins you've mentioned to say what I think of your investment strat. Assume you've done some research on them on as long term prospects though?

Long term I'm holding BTC, ETH, OMG, Golem, some XRP and a small amount of Augur.

See above Harvey, although as usual I'd recommend doing your own research, as entry points and stuff will have changed.

Yeah, I'm not, and will never be, a day-trader, so all my investments are 6-10 year holds (if not longer).

Check some of them out. PTOY, TRIG and BAT should all be huge in their respective fields. IOC and XZC should have huge 2018's.

Got absolutely fkn murdered today. EV not quite as bad, but still not great.

Think I played pretty well actually for the most part. Some minor tilt issues mid-session, but not sure it really affected decision making. Ah well, back to 200z for a while to lick my wounds

Quick database check and I didn't win a pot greater than 40bb today at 500z. Pretty sensational stuff.

            Some hands:
