So I got back from Germany last night, after a really fun, extremely boozy long weekend. I'm not going to lie, the trip wasn't particularly cultural, but we did get a few lap-dances and I was able to drink Jagermeister out of a prop toilet bowl, so there's that. We luckboxed tickets to the Dortmund vs Schalke game on the Saturday afternoon, which was legit the best football match I've ever attended. Dortmund went 4-0 inside 30 minutes and it ended in a 4-4 draw with a 93rd minute equaliser. Scenes.

Came home to the saddest news that our pup Harley had to be put down over the weekend. She was a 15yr old rescue Collie/Mountain cross, and we knew that there likely wasn't long left, but it doesn't make it any easier at all. Aimee didn't give me the news until I was home, as she knew I wouldn't have enjoyed the weekend and there was nothing to be done. But I'm so gutted that I couldn't say goodbye and give her a cuddle. Not ashamed to admit I cried my eyes out when I found out. RIP Har, I'll miss you so much.

Wasn't able to play much poker today due to a combination of sadness and the remnants of a massive hangover, but will hopefully get back at it tomorrow. Won about a buy-in in 900 hands or so.

Been getting stomped so far this month at zoom, down around 6.5k in 7k hands and seemingly unable to get a winner to showdown. Thankfully I've done very well again in the Crypto streets and was able to ship an MTT today for 3.5k, so I'm still up a little on the month.

Actually think Crypto is low key the best thing thing to happen to poker since pre-BF. So much gambley, disposable income floating around right now, a lot of which is probably hidden from partners/significant others. Without sounding like too much of a plutomaniac, that's gotta be good for the games, right?

MTD so far, which hasn't been smooth sailing at the zoom tables. The games are surprisingly terrible for December and I've been running into the nuts a lot, as well as not playing super well. It's given me a nice opportunity to PIO my face off though, and I feel like I'm in a really good place now with some spots that were previously giving me trouble. I still find SB BvB spots really troublesome, but I've discovered some nice tricks for simplifying flop/turn strategy there.

Was able to ship back to back MTTs on stars this week, for about $10k total. One of the binks was a Bounty Builder, and sometimes you 'win' a Bounty Builder, but don't really win due to running bad in bounty spots. This one I really ****ing WON. My Bounty was 9x the second biggest at tournament close, which was super fun.

Won't go too in depth with the Crypto stuff, as it seems you can't get near a PGC right now without being inundated in the stuff. Needless to say, it's gone pretty well. I'm almost entirely out of BTC at this point, and hoping for some good future entry points. May end up regretting the decision to get out now, but I wasn't comfortable having so much of my net invested in such a highly fluctuating asset. I've done really well out of it by any possible means of assessment, and am now looking to diversify and hopefully catch some smaller risk/ROI waves in other areas. Still a big proponent for Ripple and Dash, and have high hopes for both of these.

There was a time when I had like 60% of my net invested in this little bastard. I'm nowhere near as over-extended anymore, but still had a good chunk of XRP, so it's been really nice getting the 300% ROI over the past few days. Ethereum and Dash both doing really well by any normal parameters too, so a lot of things going in the right direction. Just need to keep winning at the cash tables for the MTT/cash/Crypto trifecta month.

Hey bud, nice job on ripple, almost even in BTC terms now for the last few months On a serious note, I honestly think it's a really cool project, a genuine obvious use for blockchain technology (where lots of projects genuinely would be better with old school databases), massive corporate endorsement which is huge, etc.
Aside from the token escrow, which is kind of whatever, just delaying the trust problem, every article I've read seems to be a case of FS adopting the tech but not the token itself? Was recently at a Google Ventures talk where they mentioned they invested in the company, but not the token. Like it genuinely seems possible that Ripple tech itself could be adopted across the board without the token gaining in utility, since as I understand it the token is just to provide liquidity?
I've never been able to find a good explain like i'm 5 description of the purpose of the token itself, which has stopped me pulling the trigger. If you've read one or could explain it yourself i'd deffo appreciate it, and might even contribute to the pump

Current guesswork on the XRP token stuff, is that banks will only use XRP to the extent that they need it to cover the transaction fees for their use of the Ripple network. But, if any of those IOU:XRP become liquid enough and banks can find a way to hedge their long exposure to XRP, then market makers may offer the IOU:XRP cross for banks to use in day-to-day pathfinding. Order flow goes to liquidity and if the IOU:XRP cross is liquid enough then it will get used.

Outside of the FIs, Ripple are very actively pursuing strategies (such as xRapid) that allow XRP to be used as a settlement currency, without the requirement for banks to hold XRP. Even if banks choose not to hold XRP, there are massive incentives for companies like Uber/AirBNB to hold a currency used as a settlement currency, because you can acquire it so cheaply.

Makes sense, really good answer. So xRapid is basically a way to have zero forex fees if I'm reading it correctly? I'll need to read more about the terms of the escrow, but maybe it's time to get some ripple exposure. I've been reading about it forever, but also unfortunately began in crypto by following large amounts of crypto rotbags on twitter who hate it just because it's not decentralised and because it deals with the big bad corporations, etc etc, and never quite got round to understanding it properly.

The other consideration, which is why I don't want a long position on ripple is that if in the future we see a decentralised currency like Bitcoin take over the world, banks and their operations will become fossilised within the history books, along with Ripple imo.

OFC this is talking 10-100 years down the track and has absolutely no relevance to short positions on Ripple. But I suppose it's food for thought?

Yeah there's so much hate in the Cryptosphere for anything that isn't 'pure' Crypto. Yeah Ripple does support modernisation of the big institutions, but IMO anyone that really believes that the World Order are just going to let go of the massive pound of flesh they have in the banking industry, and we're all going to live in this charge free, forex free Crypto world any time soon is dreaming.

Crypto only gets a seat at the table through short term integration with the financial norm. Long term, decentralised world currency might actually be a thing, but its surely a long and iterative process to get there.

Today was fairly smooth sailing throughout. Games were amazing when they kicked off this morning, but went downhill a bit this afternoon. Having the same issue as a few others I've spoken to lately, in that I'm becoming way sidetracked by Crypto, as the money making opportunities are just unreal right now. I made considerably more in 1 week of Crypto trading than I made in October/November from poker, which is ridiculous. Absolute epitome of first world problems, but I need to make the most of this bandwagon while it lasts, so will be continuing to slack in my poker volume.

Gonna take a leaf out of others books and donate $500 to charity this month. Will make it up to $1000 if I make $5k+ at the tables this month. Currently at -$2k, so wish me some run good in the final two weeks of the year.

Taking suggestions on charities, if anyone has any? I've previously donated through various effective altruism suggested charities, and also to The Water Project.
