I have a new years resolution and it is to be profitable in poker. I've been playing on and off for about 10 years but despite making improvements I am still not profitable. That is about to change.
i have been playing various limits from $10NL to $200NL on pokerstars over the past year.
I have deposited today in order to make my bankroll $1000.
I'm firstly going to play $25NL until I hopefully reach $1250. If I get down to $900 I will move down to $16NL.
I'll update after 10,000 hands of $25NL zoom or when I reach $900/$1250.
Good luck! I'm just starting a similar "challenge" thread. I've been a winner in the past, but I'm not so sure anymore, so I'm starting over with a set bankroll at live $1/2 NL.

Keep us posted on your progress!
Thanks. I'll check out your thread!
Day 1 Update -
I decided for the sake of $250 I could just play $50NL and move down after 5 buy ins if required. So it's a slight change of plan. I'll move down if I lose 5 buy ins. I'll move up to $100NL if I hit $2500.
I played 2500~ hands yesterday and played really well. I was up 5 buy ins at one point. I don't think there's much value in posting coolers so I won't bother. I lost 3 100 big blind pots. One of them I got top set in v top pair+FD, one I got topset again v a pocket pair+OESD and the other it was flush v flush (maybe should have folded to a river raise).
Day 2 was a bit up and down. A bit frustrating as at one point I was 6 BI up total and finished only 2 BI up.
Went out for lunch and drinks and played for half an hour when I came back a bit tipsy and lost a BI without doing to much wrong. Still stupid though. No more playing drunk/tipsy.
I posted a couple of hands into the forum that I wasn't sure about and got some good advice. I'll be trying to give some input to others today. I've played 4999 hands so far this year. I think i'll probably get 5000 and a graph updated for tomorrow for reaching 10,000 hands. I'll analyse how things have gone to that point too.
So I've played 10,020 hands so far this year. 90007 at $50NL and 1000 at $100NL. I played the $100NL as I saw the card hunt on pokerstars was only for $100NL and above. Maybe a bit silly to play but thought what the hell and I got $2 for my troubles! Only had K to get after about 200 hands but took me until 600 hands to get K so decided to just play 1000 hands at $100NL.
I'm running quite a bit below EV as you can see!
Positional stats below
I think BB & SB stats are quite good? Just not winning in the CO is probably costing me.
I'm losing quite a bit with PP in all positions so maybe I'm overplaying them.
My stats all seem OK in leak tracker and my flushes sets and straights are all below normal. Sets is way below normal so maybe that explains the pocket pairs above?
I'm not sure if there is anything else I should be analysing in my play. I'm quite happy with everything. Can't really see any spews I've made.
Overall I'm disappointed to only be up a wee bit though.
Pokerstars gives my balance as $1074 but according to poker tracker I've won $88. Got $14 less. I guess something did not import correctly. Oh well.
Now a $30 discrepancy between PT and Pokerstars. Shame its stars where I have less than poker tracker says though!
Bankroll is - $1165
As mentioned I've been playing some $100 NL just to complete the daily challenges. $9 up from them. So actually I'm $39 down on stars when you take that into account. Annoying. Wonder why?
I'm up in cash from every position now, except BB & SB. Still running way below EV.
Happy with how things are going for now. If I was running at EV I'd be very happy. Not much more to say. Mainly going to keep engaged with the forums and maybe watch some videos if anyone has any recommendations.
GF working all weekend and will have a quiet one since it's after the New Year. So will mainly grind poker. Possibly play some live at the casino, but we will see.
Bankroll is now sitting at $985. Decided to have a little break for now. On PT I'm around evens but all in EV is £400 which is roughly $500. I'll keep going with $50NL for now. Need to stop playing how I've been playing in the last session though. My problem always has been that 1 bad session can undo 20 hours of good solid poker. This is why I decided to have a therapeutic break.
I played 500 hands of $100NL in order to complete the card hunt (won $20) and played 500 hands of $50NL where I have been destroyed. I have been trying to be too aggressive and bully people whereas I just need to wait for the correct hands. A bit pissed off with myself. $220. Idiot.
I know I said I wasnt going to post bad beats and things but here are my hands of the day so far.
Any thoughts on how poorly I played these? Think I was trying to be too clever with a couple. Oh well.
I've tried to stop getting it all in with QQ as very rarely will anyone have anything worse than AK. Think this is one of my biggest leaks. I felt COvBTN was maybe OK but against such a tight player it was stupid.
fold, fold, CO raises to 2.5 BB, Hero raises to 9 BB, fold, BB calls 8 BB, CO raises to 25 BB, Hero raises to 100.02 BB and is all-in, fold, CO calls 75.02 BB
Flop:(209.54 BB, 2 players) K 9 4
Turn:(209.54 BB, 2 players) K
River:(209.54 BB, 2 players) K Players agreed to run it twice.
Flop #2:(209.54 BB, 2 players) 7 T 9
Turn #2:(209.54 BB, 2 players) 5
River #2:(209.54 BB, 2 players) 9
CO shows A A (Full House, Kings full of Aces)
Board #1 (Pre 82%, Flop 90%, Turn 95%)
(Two Pair, Aces and Nines)
Board #2 (Pre 80%, Flop 87%, Turn 95%)
This player 3 bets a lot which is why I went for the 4 bet. Probably should have given up on the turn or maybe not 4 bet. Not disgusted with this one but maybe wasn't necessary.
So I purged my database - only 25,000 hands. Bit of an idiot move maybe but I was like $300 out. At least I know why now.
So I've started again and have decided I'll play $100NL for a 5 buy in shot. I know I'm being an idiot but never mind. If I reach $1000 I'm going back to $50NL. If I lose I'll be playing lower. Hope I don't lose.
No more deleting my database and we're on to a fresh start. That's my slate clean and no more chances. Have played 1000 hands of $100 NL and I've won $150.
So since I decided to reset my database last Saturday I have played 20,000 hands of $50NL Zoom.I was away for the last few days hence the lack of updates.
Overall Graph
First 10,000ish hands up to my Sunday upswing
Spoiler:
10,000ish hands from Monday until now
Spoiler:
Not sure if I've been doing anything wrong the last 10,000 hands. I've lost 700-800 BB before showdown during both 10,000 groups and my stats are pretty similar so maybe it's just variance / the difference between playing a fish infested Sunday as opposed to playing through the week. Just need to keep going I guess!
Right I really need to keep this up to date and put more stuff in here. That's my new new years resolution. I'll do a daily graph update, a weekly graph update and a monthly graph update from now on.
Basically, due to my card mission having to be done on $100NL I was playing $100NL yesterday and ran pretty well. Must have been because it was a Sunday. Anyway I kept playing as I was running so well and now have enough cash to move up to $100NL.
I continued my good form in this morning session, but have basically lost it all in my afternoon session. Grrr.
Will make this "blog" more interesting from now on, with some bits and bobs on what I've been studying etc as well, as I realise at the moment it is very dull and boring.
Current bankroll is $2073.31.
I will moved down if I reach $1850ish. I am not moving up to $200NL unless I hit $10,000 as last time I reached $6000, tried to move up, got crushed and lost it all as I was not disciplined enough to move down. Was kinda tilting that losing 5 buy ins cost me $1000, so will not be moving up until $10,000.
I found this video quite useful recently. A lot of old ground but useful to cover.
Played a few hands yesterday since my update. Will hopefully play for about 2 hours today as have a few other things on. I had 3 royal flushes on Sunday/Monday. Only had about 10 total in 10 years I think. Didn't get paid off by any of them though. Thought I maybe would on this one -
