Ethereum is killing it the last couple days. It's the second largest crypto currency now, behind Bitcoin obviously. It's still WAY behind Bitcoin, but there seems to be some momentum.

BTW, since I've talked investing before in previous threads, I should share that at this point my investment strategy at this point is basically max my Roth IRA contributions annually into a Roth Brokerage account through Vanguard, and put 90% of it into S&P 500 index fund (and I can "play" with the other bit choosing stuff for diversification and sort of for the fun of it). That's my "real" investing, and as long I stay on track with that month in month out no matter what for the next 30 years, I'll be in fine retirement shape. 20 years from now I'll want to diversify that quite a bit and mitigate risk, but for the next good chunk of future just pumping away into S&P 500 index and riding the ups and downs with the vast majority of my investment funds is the plan. With what little else I have to play with for investing, I'm starting to try to accumulate some crypto currencies, albeit on a small scale.

In the last 30 days, Ethereum's market cap went from $80MM to $450MM, and it's price went from .0024 BTC to .0154 BTC. That's obviously a huge spike. I own a only very little bit of Ethereum, I sure wish I had owned a lot! I'm no where near informed enough to make any sort of prediction as to whether this is just a temporary spike, or pump and dump and a crash is imminent, or whether all the increased volume is due to players accurately predicting increased adoption, or what. Either way, it's interesting to keep an eye on.

Out.

Raise AQhh over three limps to 6x (antes) one caller flop Q54r with one heart I cbet just under 1/2 pit he x/minraises I feel he's real strong I call turn 2o he bets big I fold he shows KK

3bet AJo over an active opener get cold 4b by the tightest guy on the table I fold I have just under 20bb remaining

3bet shove 66 with 16bb guy in bb calls it original raider quickly folds caller has TT and I'm out

Few other small raise and take it type pots mixed in along the way. Field seemed very soft. Structure was too shallow. Annoying to bust early after the snow debacle this morning which I'll write about later when not on my phone.

You might want to consider pumping into the VTSMX (US Total Stock Market) fund instead of the S&P fund. I looked into this about a year ago and research indicated that a total stock market fund tends to slightly outperform a S&P fund over the longterm. The difference is pretty minimal due to the significant overlap but I'll always go with the fund I expect to be the highest returning w/ comparable risk.

I purchased the Ethereum, although I'm about to start mining it as well. I know it's too late in the game to get any sort of good ROI on hardware investment, but I happen to need a new desktop, so I ordered one knowing I can offset at least some of the cost via mining while also giving myself a fun hobby project to geek out on. I'm going to set that up to mine for the next few months and then migrate over to it later in the year for personal use when mining dries up.

So for a post tourney evaluation for my investors, on the positive side I was surprised by how soft the field was. I suppose that makes sense, as when there are 10x more poker players than normal at the casino they can't all be regs, but I don't play a lot of live tournaments so my initial thought was "wow where the heck did they all come from?". That was good for the investment. On the bad side, the tournament structure was too shallow, and I underestimated the impact of that. I still am confident I had a nice edge, but I have to be realistic about the fact that limited deep stack play limited the theoretical edge I could exercise on the field.

Anyways, thanks again guys for the action!

Ya, I got hammered with a similar amount. I planned on leaving an hour early to allow extra time for slow travel. What I didn't properly plan for was the fact that PIECE OF CRAP City of Rochester would not bother to plow my street. I live on a low traffic side street that connects between two normal streets, both of which were plowed (albeit poorly), but my street didn't have a SINGLE plow pass through all night or morning by the time I went to leave. I live four houses from the corner. I called the casino, and unfortunately the entry was non refundable, non transferrable, and they also couldn't switch me to the sold out Day 1b entry. Ugh. So, I literally had to SHOVEL ONE LANE OF THE ENTIRE STREET from my house down to the corner. I was busting my ass, drenched with sweat, and the entire back breaking process took me over 1.5 hours. I finally cleared a path, rinsed off in the shower, and was on my way. The local roads were a disaster, with many roads closed and vehicles stuck in the ditches on the side of the road everywhere. Once I got to the thruway, the travel was mostly fine though. I ended up arriving to the casino about 35 minutes late, and by the time I got seated I was 45 minutes late to the tournament, so I missed the first blind level. Sorry about that guys, but I definitely tried my hardest to get there given the circumstances. I was SO MAD at the plow guys for not even giving one single pass down my street. My girlfriend texted by about 1pm saying they finally came through for the first time. In retrospect it's kind of funny, picturing the scene of me frantically shoveling away in the middle of the road in the middle of a terrible snowstorm so I could go PLAY POKER, all the while my girlfriend is periodically coming out to tell me that this is crazy and dangerous and I should really reconsider one more time if it's really worth it.

At the time, however, I was not amused.

Thanks for the tip. I might end up splitting a portion of my S&P into that.

Pure gold.

Sell the snow shovel, you won't need it soon... Nice efforts both to make it to the casino and the actual playing of the tourney tho bud!

...Talk about sweat equity...

I don't think that means what I want it to mean, but I couldn't resist!

Lots of exciting Ethereum news lately. I have 268 ETH, with about 1.8 BTC sitting in Poloniex that I'm going to trade for 5 ETH/day over the next few weeks for some dollar cost averaging (as I'm not sure how to predict the peaks and valleys over the next month), and I'm mining at a rate of about 1.2 ETH/day. Building the Ethereum Empire!

The big ETH downspikes today were a good thing imo. The loaded sharks can manipulate price by moving huge volumes around. They can dump a ton and drive the price down and then buy it back up at a discount, and the panicky reactors get burned in the process.

However, it was good to see there was enough buy support at the .013 level to create a floor and push back against the dumping. Going for new ATHs is nice, but establishing new floors is way more important for long term stability and growth imo.

Here is a website I created that explains the basics of Ethereum:

http://www.ethereum-101.com

There was another price surge today, and Ethereum is at an all time high in terms of US Dollar valuation - let's go! Lots of positive news lately, and with Bitcoin's recent slowdown issues it's a generating lots of ETH buzz.

I'll be back posting soon (likely tomorrow) with some more goal and poker related content, so this doesn't turn into a cryptocurrency blog.

Poker has been going well. I've been in a pretty good groove lately with my play. I've been playing a lot more live lately. Part of that is probably some level of avoidance behavior with the online grind, since that is where I absorbed the negative variance, and part of it is because I've taken a few more Fallsview trips recently and have also simply been enjoying the live poker grind. I'm up 7900 in 110 hours played so far on the year at live, so small sample size obviously, but that is tracking on my hourly rate from last year so I'm slowly building a larger data set to support that hourly expectation. I played about a 50/50 split of live and online last month, so it's not like I've totally neglected online. I've been doing pretty well with my online efforts, and in a lot of ways my recent downswing has been good for me, as it's helped me refocus on game improvement and building stronger professional habits.

One thing I need to work on in my personal life is building a better habit around my bedtime snacking. This is something I talked about in my initial post for the year, and I got off to a good start on this front, but I have fallen off track recently. Nights where I'm extra tired, or perhaps have had a drink after going out to dinner, or just generally had a tough day - those are the days where my mental armor is worn down and I make excuses and indulge in the poor behavior. I know that if I don't curtail it, it will inevitably lead to weight gain, and often times when I snack right before bed I skip my bedtime teeth brushing, which is a terrible habit. I want healthy white teeth, and I'm going through this orthodontic process to get a better smile, so sabotaging that by getting lazy about daily maintenance is not something I want to do.

So, I'm going to commit to building the life habit that I want for myself, and commit to avoiding bedtime snacking and ensuring I brush every night for the rest of the month, come hell or high water. I'm going to track my progress here daily. Simply by setting a public goal and committing to the process of public tracking, I know that I'm laying the framework for me to successfully enact this lifestyle change. I will achieve that healthy whiter straighter smile that I want!

The ImaWhale poker house has been on fire this year. The guys in the house are absolutely crushing it. I don't want to name names or disclose profit totals, but these some of these guys are putting up all time personal best numbers. Really happy for them and proud of them!

Lastly, of course: http://www.ethereum-101.com
