I can cope with losing when I get unlucky or unavoidable situations. When I game select poorly and end up losing when it's debatable whether or not I should even be playing in the game that bothers me. When I play bad or continue playing when I'm tired/tilted and I know I should quit, that eats me up. I pride myself in certain things and when you've been doing this as long as me there's really no excuse for these types of mistakes. When I even start to think about quitting a game then I know it's time to quit. My schedule being disrupted makes doing these things correctly everytime more difficult but at the end of the day I have to deal with critical thinking and decision making when I'm tired and when I'm not. I need to be able to assess when I'm unable to do this and remove myself from the situation immediately.

I didn't play all that well today either. I played a ton this weekend and I think I just burnt myself out. Didn't feel like playing today but I forced myself when my friend texted me about a new game starting with a really big spot.

Congrats Man, impressive results. Those are sick winrates. I do double the volume you have but not even close to your results. I put in on average of about 250-300hrs a month. My winrate is currently at 5.5bb/hr.

Obviously you play real good and exploit the fish well. What did you do off the table to improve your skill? Nowadays, do you even bother to work on your game. Seems like a waste as time away from the table is costing you money.

How are the other regs in your casino you feel? Surely, you must be top 10% at your level I reckon.

I normally check the thread for the live poker content as I usually don't read the stories.
Keep up the good work.

5.5bb is solid esp if you're playing that much. It's much tougher to play your A game a large % of the time if you're putting in those types of hours. I just looked at filter for 2016 and I'm breakeven at bigger games over 175 hours and ~$130/hour at 5/10 over 300 hours. My overall WR in 2016 is ~$85/hour over 475 hours and I played 10/20+ for at least 1/3 of the time. So in this sample I'm not that far off from you considering I play bigger as much as possible. I happened to sun run smaller stakes but they're also softer overall. Anything can happen over a few hundred hours.

Currently nothing besides discuss strategy with some other winning players who play the same stakes as me.

There's some good players who play in the area. In bigger games when it's a lot of regs and 1-2 whales the edges comes from who's tilted/losing tbh. I do some things better than my peers and vice-versa. Most of the pros I play with are younger than me and don't have as much exp.

Wallet

Will had gone through the money he had gotten from the last few robberies so it was important for him not to know the scope of what I was up to in my new place. He had bought a motorcycle and put some aftermarket parts on it. He was known for riding around with no license and outrunning cops, doing wheelies and just generally pushing his luck all the time. He was looking for anybody to rob. In between big opportunities he would just take small amounts from anyone who would trust him just to have something to get high on. Some of these people he wouldn't punk and they thought they were actually getting payed back or at least wouldn't go around saying they got robbed so other people wouldn't know how easy it was.

One day I was with him and he said we were going to get some weed. We pull up to some guys house in the suburbs and he hops in the back of Will's SUV and gives him a quarter or a 1/2 ounce of good weed. Will looks at it and puts it in his pocket. He tells the guy he didn't have any money but he'd give it to him once he sold some coke or pills or something. So the guys like "ok Will just let me know" and gets out of the car. We drive off and Will told me some reason why he's never paying that guy back. He was a meth user and Will generally looked down on anyone addicted to hard drugs and treated them like they were nothing. We smoked some and I had stuff to do so I went back to my place. What I didn't know was this guy was partnered with a friend of mine named Jack.

Jack was a guy I went to school with my whole life. He was in one of my classes in elementary school. We never became friends until high school and I was never sure if he was just friends with me because of drugs or what. Either way we hung out a lot and for a while he was my main driver. He'd pick me up before school when my license was suspended or I didn't have a car and do the rounds with me after school. I'd front him and he'd always come back and I don't remember having any problems with him. His older sister had her own apartment and he would often wanna hang out there and smoke and drink. He had strict parents so this was new for him having a place he could do whatever he wanted to do. I had no interest in sitting around with a buncha dudes taking bong hits and drinking beer while watching tv or playing video games so I almost never hung out there. Will and Jack grew up within walking distance from each other. Will always called him Gay Jack growing up and anyone in his circle would be Gay so-and-so.

One day out of the blue Jack calls me and asks if I wanna hang out. Me and Robin are together that day and I ask her what she thinks about it and she's like "all right whatever" kind of thing. This wasn't out of the ordinary for him. So he came over and was with us the whole day. We smoked some weed, prob went to eat, hung out at my place etc. We're in my room and he asks if I wanna go outside to smoke a cigarette so I'm like sure. We get to my front door and he mentions some money he owes me from earlier and asks if I have change for $100. I say yeah and take out my wallet. As soon as I take it out he grabs it from my hand and takes off. I tackle him and we tumble down the front steps. He takes off running into the dark and I'm right on his heels. I hear him say "here just take it" and throws my wallet over his shoulder and continues sprinting. I stopped to pick it up and see that all the cash is gone. He's got a huge head start on me now so I just give up. Now I never kept a lot of money in my wallet so he only got a few hundred. I walk back to my house and tell Robin what happened. She laughed and said "Will is gonna **** him up".

So the good thing about living in a different county than Will was he didn't know the people I was dealing with or what I was up to. I was still able to call on him for stuff like this. The money wasn't so much important as people just knowing they couldn't take anything from me. So I go to Will's and tell him what happened and I hear one side of the phone convo between them. Will tells him the money was his and I owed him. He's got until this time tonight to bring the money to his house or else. Jack tells him he's afraid to bring it to his house but he'll leave it at a designated place as long as Will isn't there when he drops it off. Will agrees and tells him to leave the money in Jacks mailbox. Will's got one of his goons there who'd been his driver for the longest time. He'd do whatever on command. We all get into Will's SUV and park at the end of Jacks street with the lights off. After a while we see a small hatchback drive by slowly and then circle back and go down Jacks St. He lived in a dead end so we park the SUV in the middle of the road and leave it running. We walk up as they are putting the money in the mailbox. Will opens the driver side door and starts wailing on the driver. His goon is giving Jack the same treatment on the passenger side. All they can do is put their hands over their head and curl up. Will would grab the top of the car and kick the guy in the ribs, when his elbow would drop to his side he'd go for his head again. Once they got tired they yelled at me to come get some hits in. I told them we'd better go before the cops came. A part of me felt bad for Jack. I remember thinking what on earth would possess him to want to retaliate but I guess he'd just been pushed too far for too long. I saw him once after that at a bar. He was with a couple girls and just pretended not to notice me.

New place

After the stabbing I was forced to move again. I rented a room in a townhouse directly across the street from Robins college. My roommates were older guys who kept to themselves and it was a pretty good setup. I wouldn't have anyone over besides Robin and if I ever met anyone at my place I would just walk somewhere in my neighborhood and have them pick me up. Things were going ok with her when I first moved there, she was doing well in her classes and we'd see each other all the time. When we went anywhere it was usually to Will's house. He had a girlfriend for a long time that she got along with and an older sister. Will's older brother had a prescription for Oxycontin and his whole family had developed a nasty habit. Robin started to use it occasionally when we'd hang out over there.

I didn't keep in touch with many people I had met at my old place besides Hector. He had hooked me up with a guy named Leon. Leon was about my age and had recently inherited a large sum of money. His mother passed away and left her house and all her money to him. Now Leon loved to party and he had a huge crew of guys riding his coattails who would never leave his house. His closest friends were having the time of their lives all on Leon's dime. His uncle had convinced him to let him move in too, he was probably in his mid 40s and had recently gotten out of prison. Leon was blowing through this money at an alarming rate. Drugs, cars, women I'd never seen anything like it. When I first met him I thought he was a big time drug dealer because of the quantities he was ordering up. It wasn't until later that I found out they would just be holed up in the house with a parade of chicks coming through getting high/drunk for weeks on end. Hector put me on with him and there was no way I could thank him enough.

Hector had convinced himself that someone was trying to kill him. He asked me to take him to meet a guy who was going to sell him a bulletproof vest. I took him somewhere and parked in the driveway while he went in. While he was inside a guy came out and looked at my license plate and went back inside. Hector comes out with the vest and I told him what happened. He told me that he bought it off a cop and they were probably just being cautious. This made me extremely paranoid and I was mad he didn't say anything before we went but I owed him for hooking me up with Leon and his crew so I just left it alone.

Around my 21st birthday my family decided to give me my college fund in a lump sum even though I wasn't taking classes. This was more money than I'd ever had in my life and I didn't know what to do with it. My first instinct was to do what I'd always done with my money but just on a larger scale. I made Robin swear never to tell Will about it and she promised. I was somewhat responsible with the money, I payed off a car loan and the rest I had working for me.

Hanging out with Will all the time I started drinking heavily. I'd usually start smoking as soon as I woke up in the morning and drinking in the afternoon. Me and Will would always have beers in the car anytime we went anywhere. Robin couldn't stay out late because of school so we'd usually hit some bars at night. Soon after my birthday me and Will were at a local bar a few miles from his house. I had driven us and we stayed till the bar closed. As we were walking out I saw some cops parked across the street. Me and Will get in my car and drive off. A little ways down the road I notice a cop tailing me. First chance I get I turn onto a side street and the cop goes straight. As soon as I pull onto another main road another cop gets behind me. I pull up to a light and the cops right behind me. When the light turns green I turn left from the center lane into a gas station. He hits the lights and follows me into the parking lot. He asks if I'd been drinking and how much. I get a field sobriety test and then breathalyzer. I fail and he takes me in. This was my first adult arrest and less than a month since I was of legal drinking age. They release me on my own recognizance and Will's mom came to pick me up from jail.

Breaking even the last couple weeks has been pretty frustrating. I'm on track to have my highest volume month since I started challenge so far. I'm not forcing hours it just happens that I've had a ton of opportunities to play good games so I've been playing a bunch. My play hasn't been stellar and I've put myself in situations where it's v difficult for me to play my best bc the games has been so good. Sometimes continuing to play my B game is making me more money than quitting bc the lineup or whatever. I've been dealing with some stressful things outside of my poker play which makes everything more difficult but I feel like I've been coping well. My method has essentially been to turn everything off when I'm playing. I'm going to make a conscious effort to not neglect friends and family as much. This is def the best way to make the most money at poker but it's just not the person I want to be.

Congrats on your results so far this year. While it is frustrating to put in a lot of good volume in juicy lineups without having good profit results, you already know that is the funny thing about the rollercoaster of poker.

Also really enjoy the stories that you post in this PGC too.

The frustrating part is when I look back on my own play during this recent breakeven stretch there's a bunch of instances where I didn't play well. The games where I was fatigued and not playing my best we're all justified tho so I'm not really down on myself, it is what it is. Wish I could play better tired but just gotta take care of myself from a diet/exercise standpoint and I'll be all right. Thanks for the congratulations and I'm glad you enjoyed reading.
